Nope, not in the least.  Even MSFN members ADMIT that they don't use their "ancient" XP computers exclusively.

Ditch your tablet, ditch your phone, ditch anything and everything othat than your "beloved" ancient XP then we (any one or all here at MSFN) shall have this conversation again.

If you know me a little, you know that I won't ditch anything. But one thing is clear. My "beloved", ancient Windows XP machine :thumbup can do most of the tasks I want it to do. Thus, I do not have to use the crappy more recent Windows versions that often. :cheerleader: Apart from that, I'm also an Android enthusiast. And I am Linux user, too. So I dance at all weddings. danse6.gif

In my opinion, even XP is a crappy version of Windows!

The only reason it isn't is if you know how to tweak it, optimize it, axe the extras, et cetera.

Which is the same exact thing to be said of ANY version of Windows!

ie, you're not really running XP, your running XP plus Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP 7.5.105.217, plus who knows what else, that's not "technically" XP.

This firewall is a special version for Windows XP. Formerly, it was called Vista Firewall Control, then Windows 7 Firewall Control and so on. That doesn't mean anything. Technically, I am running a pure Windows XP equipped with a lot of software. :P And the more recent OSes are crappy because the admin is no longer an admin. The admin is Microsoft in more recent Windows OSes, especially starting with Windows 8. :thumbdown And in the end, you can't do much about it. Apart from that, you are bombarded with so much junk that you lose all sense of humor.

Yep. That and the fact that they're phoning home as if there was no tomorrow with lots of telemetry (and don't even get me started on the new Microsoft Recall spyware I mean "feature"). If we add to that the new CPU requirements, mandatory TPM 2.0, secure boot, UEFI and - on Professional/Enterprise editions - mandatory full disk encryption with Bitlocker, it just makes you not want to use Windows 11.

On top of it, using Win11 on anything other than an SSD makes everything stutter. As for the new UI, I just hate the fact that they redesigned the whole explorer.exe, the fact they almost entirely killed the old Control Panel by moving (almost) everything to the new dumbed down settings menu, the new dumbed down right click etc...

Why Microsoft, why...? :(

Exactly! When I use Windows 10, I am constantly looking for where a certain function has been hidden again. For me, using Windows 10 means that I have to swear all the time. Windows XP, on the other hand, is pure relaxation. :thumbup I'm happy to accept that some things can't be done. :P

Again, only if you don't tweak and optimize!

Which, YES, is a lost art!

And even web sites that used to specialize in that ART are long gone.

I kind of don't believe for a second that you run XP with "defaults", you yourself tweaked and optimized.

I would like to think that NOBODY HERE AT MSFN runs any OS at "defaults".

Not to sound like a broken record or to beat a dead horse, but only if you don't tweak and optimize!

Although the whole conversation has actually become off-topic, I do not agree with your statement "Only if you don't tweak and optimize!". You can't redesign the whole OS. Tweaking and optimizing has nothing to do with the fact that the basic design of Windows 10, and more worse Windows 11, is crap. And I am not interested in modifying, tweaking and optimizing such crap. :thumbdown End of story. :o

So, here is my next call to all users of Comodo under Windows XP. braavo.gif This thread needs information about Comodo Antivirus, Comodo Internet Security and Comodo Firewall. Especially users running Windows XP in a VM or users running VMs in general might test some of the last compatible versions and report here. :dubbio: That would be very helpful as I cannot test all software by myself. :P

And here is what I know about the last compatible versions which had been running error-free:
Comodo Antivirus 12.0.0.6818
Comodo Internet Security 12.0.0.6818
Comodo Firewall 8.4.0.5165

Now, we need confirmations and information by testing these versions and maybe others. :P

That was the actual call. I need information especially regarding Comodo Antivirus in terms of its definition updates. Does Comodo Antivirus 12.0.0.6818 or another XP-compatible version that I may not yet have on my radar still receive definition updates on a regular base in these days? :dubbio:

Try Comodo Cleaning Essentials:

https://help.comodo.com/topic-119-1-328-3523-.html

The last time I had used this program was in 2018 (version 10.0.0.6111)  and it was a little capricious under XP but working. :sneaky:

About version 11.0, I don't know.

Let us know.

Actually, I am quite good in finding old installers. But one of them I can't find, even via Wayback Machine. It is the offline installer of Comodo Internet Security Premium 10.1. This is the free version of CIS. Does anyone have that file saved on their disk? Or a working download link? :dubbio: The exact version may be 10.1.0.6474 or 10.1.0.6476. The file size is round about 67MB. The original file name was as usual cispremium_only_installer.exe:P Online installers for these versions can be found easily but do not work anymore. :(
