Still happening? Have you checked your system for a botnet?

Happens (rarely) too in (Chrome based) DCBrowser...

I've been seeing the "Checking if site is secure" message on a few sites, I think it is not actually doing what it is saying. I haven't seen any that got stuck in a loop but I have seen 1 (somewhere) that never went past the message. It was a one-off site visit and I didn't care enough to get past the message. For me it happened with Palemoon 28 (Firefox 60).

How about we just ignore such "websites" ? You do know, they make your unique fingerprint, don't you ?

Whenever I see that, I do feel like I'm being tracked, but it occurs on 'everyday' sites now and then so I don't know.

TRACKING

To see if you're tracked...against bad connections, redirections, encoded JavaScript, malware etc, use heuristics of Browser JSGuard extension; for Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/browser-jsguard/ncpkigeklafkopcelcegambndlhkcbhb

AND too why not: Content-aware Ad Blocker (against trackers, ads... works along with uBlock) :  https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/content-aware-ad-blocker/mjjigiphiihnhaiemofpiihnakifcjel?hl=en-US

And this extension itself doesn't track ?

Could you be more specific about the everyday sites ? Though, I'd totally understand, if you don't want to name the sites you use.

It tries to make a unique fingerprint of your browser by using mostly the canvas fingerprint . If you want to see yours, can check here your unique ID.

https://browserleaks.com/canvas

Ungoogled Chrome has the ability to block it completely or generate a fake one

It can also use GetCPInfo GetOEMCP and some others through your browser with a java script. This is not all it can try to fetch.
