Is the SSL Certificate Failed problem a common issue on this? I keep getting it when navigating to a bunch of websites, is this because they have no SHA-1 certificate hence failing to work?

You can work around the problem by adding the affected website under SSL no verify in the config.ini.

Yes, its working fine now I just had to keep trying until i got the prompt about unrecognised windows files

If you want to disable SFC in future times, you have to do in this way:

There are a lot of those guides in the WWW.

You are using an unsecure proxy version. ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a (20150527) should only be used to access MU. For surfing you need a more secure browser. For more information about these proxies you can read my article:

Hello, I did the hosts file edit and it keeps redirecting me to the actual microsoft website about windows update rather the actual windows update page

Sorry, no! Truth to be told it's not really ok. In an very old OS you are using a very old unsupported version of IE6 and an unsecure version of ProxHTTPSProxyMII due to lacking of SHA256 capability of signing. Just for fun on some very safe sites for testing purpose only, it's ok. But for more it's just a no go. In this case you need a more recent and secure browser which supports Windows 2000. But anyway, congrats for restoring access to MU web site! The impossible is possible as you can see! :)

Nope, it is because of an outdated cacert.pem. In order to fix it, you need to update cacert.pem.

Ah ok whats the trick for windows xp? in ie6

Add the three pages to the Trusted Sites in IE and set the Security Level to high: http://update.microsoft.com http://www.update.microsoft.com and https://www.update.microsoft.com
If the Security Level is not available, click on reset first.
