What is everyones favorite video playing program? For this thread I would like everyone to follow a few simple rules. I would like to see the version number of the program that you like, a download location, and a reason of why this is your favorite Video Player Program.

VLC player 8.6i

I really like the 7z version of this because it is a standalone program. I prefer not to install programs when possible.

K-Lite Codec Pack 4.1.7 STANDARD

I use a custom version of this with the " c:\klmcodec.exe -MakeUnattended " command. This is really useful for unattended installations of XP.

Yes, as above, then my preffered playback solution is:

MPC for it's nice clean looks and powerfull backend, coupled together with ffdshow tryouts for decoding/post-processing/subtitling and then optionally Haali Media Splitter(if wanting a more advanced splitter than MPC's internal MP4/MKV/OGM/AVI source filters) and VSFilter(if wanting a more advanced subtitle filter than the internal ones of ffdshow and MPC)...

clsid's MPC builds from guliverkli2 project (last rev. from Gabest with updated libs, patches and small changes):

Why? It plays everything I throw at it, it's compiled for my processors instructions, and I'm a sucker for command line programs.

• mpc (hc or not) as a player
  
• ffdshow, for most mpeg4 asp formats
  
• coreavc, for h.264/mpeg4 avc files
  
• ac3filter, for ac3 audio
  
• haali splitter, as a splitter
  
• directvobsub, for subs
  
• several different mpeg2 codecs (vista's is pretty decent though)
  

x264 & xvid also installed, but just for encoding (lots of other tools for that)

I use the installer version of VLC

and i also use the Cole2k Codec Pack (this uses FFDShow as the decoder)

VLC uses FFmpeg's libavcodec directly and doesen't support DShow decoders like ffdshow...

VLC uses internal codecs so you don't need any DirectShow ones.

ffdshow tryouts also decodes AC3, MPEG2 and H.264. It has subtitle support too.

Media Player Classic includes splitters for FLV, MKV, MP4, 3GP and others.
