  1. Help Please. Last night my PC started to reboot itself for no known reason. And I could not maintain an internet connection when connected to battle.net (First time connected to battle.net). This setting, it reads the A-Drive whenever I change URLs with my browser (IE). I am getting error messages after the PC reboots itself and that M$ Critical Send Error Box to M$ that refers to the minidump. I scanned the hard drive for viruses and it came up clean. My most recent software installation was StarCraft BroodWar (Retail) and my most recent download was the patch for StarCraft from blizzard.com Any ideas please? MSNwar - The FatMan
  2. There will be a feature article in the March issue of PC Magazine, www.pcmag.com, dedicated to remote assistance work arounds for XP Home Edition users on this subject. Stay tuned MSNwar - The FatMan
  3. Conan, we will have to sit down and try the dog and turtle togather after I arrive. Then we'll have something to tell FthrJack, lol. Big Booger, you aren't far from the truth. I follow www.motherearthnews.com and we try to grow some and buy only from trusted farmers whenever possible. MSNwar - The FatMan
  4. Conan, I know I am spelling this wrong "Ballute"? The egg with the chicken embryo in it! I almost sheet when I first saw it. We were at a dive resort in San Fernando la Union, San Migel area. At breakfast in an outdoors cabana I noticed a lady walking down the beach carrying a basket on her head yelling Balluet...Balluet over and over. The waitress said she was selling eggs. I had her invited to come to the table so I could take a peek "fresh eggs sounded good for a hang over". Huge and I mean huge eggs. I told the waitress to get a bunch for me and my friends that would soon arrive. The girls laughed and opened one for me. Hell, I ate one anyway. Father should have been there for that one, lol. Then there was dog. Served from a bus stop resturaunt between Angeles City and Baguio. It was a buffet line and I thought it was hamburger. Served with rice of course. My friends told me what it was when I went for my second helping. Not bad really. Then there was the bone marrow from a water buffalo. We used long sticks to get at it. Can't remember the name of it. And water buffalo steaks. Also good. In Cebu I had turtle blood soup with tiny shells called escargo. All good with a San Migel beer. My favorite was a girl from Manila. Can't remember her name either but I married her and have three kids now. Now you know why they call me the FatMan. By the way, we will be there between April and May. MSNwar - The FatMan

  6. Ha! Scientific Proof! Something from Kentucky has a brain...er had a brain. On the other hand the chicken couldn't have been to smart since it got itself into the slaughter house in the first place. Probally followed its sister or brother into the slaughter house looking for a lil fun I guess. Real Shame. What does it taste like with fries anyway? This would have never happened if it had been a chicken from the U.K. you know! LOL. Conan, my wife and kids are from the P.I. How well I know MSNwar - The FatMan
  7. Sounds more like the Win DVD installation was bad from the start. Where there errors "after" installing Win DVD? Where you prompted to reboot the PC for the installation to take effect? I believe you experienced a bad software installation. XP is running scan disk isn't it? I doubt you have a hardware conflict causing the reboot/scan. Conan and Big Booger are right and you should look at a clean install of XP as well as using only updated drivers, etc. You will also want to defrag the hard drive if the software installation was bad. The defrag is necessary when software installation(s) fail and scan disk is running on every system boot. Always run defrag after installing new software to keep the hard drive smooth. Last, use the system restore feature in XP. Start > Help and Support > Pick a Task > undo changes to your computer with System Restore. Then you can go back to the beginning and start over from a better position. MSNwar - The FatMan
  8. After scouring some of the newer threads for related material I found this information very helpful. Buck614 is in search of a motherboard and processor combination that is smooth, fast, upgradeable, and obviously leet. Some of "MSFN's Finest" worked very hard in terms of narrowing down today's and tomorrows technology in an easy to read and understand format. Links to reviews (Athlon vs P4) and buyers tips are sprinkled throughout the thread. I think more than a few of us are looking at possibly upgrading after all the results are in. The end product looks to be the... Motherboard: ASUS A7V333 or the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU CPU: AMD AthlonXP 2 GHz or higher For those trying to decide which CPU to use (AMD vs P4) this a MSFN Must Read. 9. Remember Hannibal?
  10. Aaron, I don't know for sure. But I remember someone telling me that it can be done in a way similar to reconfiguring My Documents to appear last in the tree. It was a registry fix if I remember correctly. I think something like this applies: To set a default tree and context Open Client Service NetWare. Click Default Tree and Context, and then type the tree and context in Tree and Context respectively. Important Due to its dependency on the IPX/SPX protocol, Client Service for NetWare is not available on Windows XP 64-Bit Edition. Notes To open Client Service for NetWare, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click CSNW. To use Client Service for NetWare, you must first install it. You should set a default tree and context only in a Novell Directory Services (NDS) environment. Otherwise, you can set a preferred server. Just wanted to compliment you about your desktop. Awesome! 14. Here is an excellent link that explains things: http://www.swiftnets.com/cpu_temp_testing.htm
  15. Is it a small tower sitting inside a desk enclosure or next to wall heater or over a floor heater? Put a themometer inside the case. Record the temperature at different times, eg, before you turn it on, after its been running for a while (15 minutes). If the temperature raises and falls then you are okay and just need to distribute the heat. If it remains constant it is sitting too close to a heat source. Play with it. (No Not Like That, lol). MSNwar - The FatMan
  16. When things get too hot in the case I invite my mother-in-law over to the house. Temperature immediatly drops about 10 degrees with her cold shoulder type attitude towards me. When dear old mom is not in the mood to visit I resort to s-e-x with my cold hearted winch of a wife. Temperature immediatly drops to ground zero. When the "better half" ain't in the mood I toss a few ice cubes under the mobo and fry burgers on the hood of the case when it eventually catches fire. Then I don't have to worry about the temperature at all. Anyone wanna buy some slightly scorched PC parts that smell like cheese burgers by-the-way? Seriously, throw in a few fans as they never hurt. 18. Okay, so its a name brand PC that runs hot. The on-board sensors may or may not function correctly? My experience with ASUS sensors and probes is that when the boards connectors are not firmly seated or there exsists "lent or debri" within the connector's plugs or on the prongs I receive inaccurate readings. I have seen cramped system configurations where the cables where crimped and in one case a small portion of the cable was shaved and in contact with the metal bottom of the case. A small case will also cause heat build-up vs. a large roomy case that was designed with air flow in mind. Just the fact that you purchased a major manufacturer PC with a name brand mobo is a contribute to a quality built machine. XPerties is correct in his assumption that the PC was HP, Compaq, etc. because they traditionaly install 3rd party health monitoring software that conflicts with original manufacturer hardware. Keep using the ASUS software and think more about air flow. Excellent advise in this thread concerning distribution of heat within the case is a good start. Two additonal fans (if the power supply has the extra power cales) or maybe the PCI types if limited to core power supply leads. www.pcmods.com is a cool site to see how the pros configure top of the line systems and radio shack has essentially the same hardware at half the price. Are you over clocking? No matter what, I always replace store bought PCs fans when over clocking. The Orb is my first choice. MSNwar - The FatMan

  21. Can this be done? Can the Microsoft Office XP Multilanguage Pack be used to transform Office XP into a different language that the language pack supports? My method of madness would be similar to the Devils Own. Transfer the files from the language pack over the Office XP files. Burn and enjoy. MSNwar - The FatMan

  24. A friend formatted his hard drive and performed a clean install of XP Pro. He has two hard drives and both are connected to the primary IDE connector on the motherboard. One hd is jumpered as the Master and the other is jumpered as Slave. The Master is connected on the end of the cabel and the Slave is connected to the middle connector of the cabel. The BIOS reads One Primary and One Slave. On the secondary IDE channel he has a DVD Drive and a CD bruner. He formatted his Master and performed a clean install of XP Pro. XP recognizes the Primary as drive letter F and the slave as C. We tried to change the drive letters through XPs Computer Management > Disk Management and learned that we cannot change the drive letter of the system volume or boot volume. Any ideas? Thanks MSNwar - The FatMan
  25. Mine does it to. Does it on the retail and the DevilsOwn. Fujitsu mouse on both PCs.
