  1. Dude I knew you would know. I have always wanted to ask you this ... Are there any tricks like the one in the past from the tutorial you created? Thanks,
  2. disc-at-once and nero 5582, thanks I was concerned about trying to burn 700.81 Mb to a 700 Mb disc since the file is greater than the capacity of the disc, but I guess it will work. Many thanks,
  3. I am not accessing MSFN with the client - I am accessing MSFN with IE6. I am just running the client at the same time and thought maybe that has something to do with it. I seldom run the client at all. Thinking about what I was doing before I made the post I remembered I backspaced with IE6 rather then use the links. Old habit I cannot seem to break. This will be my first attempt to copy this type of file to a CD and I only have NERO. Is there a better method?
  4. disc at once, thanks. I don't know. I am using a P2P client if that has anything to do with it. I wondered about that myself.

I usually defrag after the installation of each program.
  6. Examine the XP Compatibility Lists and ensure your hardware, drivers, and applcations meet the requirements. The best place to start is the Microsoft Windows XP Professional Web Site: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/default.asp The How-To articles cover everything if you look deep enough. I would suggest that Pro be your admin box since Pro has admin tools and other features that Home doesn't have. Have Fun.
  7. Piaqt, tell the truth. What do you really do with your new cordless mouse.
  8. Adding Piaqt to my Christmas Wish List
  9. I bought two different mice in the last four weeks. The first was made by SIGMA and it sucks. Looked good, Optical Cordless USB/PS2 with its own cradle that combined the receiver/transmitter, has all the buttons previously mentioned, two triple-A rechargeable batteries, and cost about US $25.00 The thing quit working after about two weeks. Friends of mine had no problems with them. I just picked up a Logitech Cordless Optical USB/PS2 with the two standard buttons and a scroll button. Runs on two double-A batteries, no cradle. Workd good for now. Installation is a no brainer. I have only seen one other that incorporates the cradle into the receiver/transmitter and it was a cheapie with only one channel. I bet the industry starts using this new cradle design in the future. Cordless mice are good for two things. The first is the obvious (no cord) and the second is it makes a pretty good rock to throw at the wife and kids when in a pinch.

High quality photos of the individual components to include the final product accompany the thread for our viewing pleasure. Trials and tribulations come with the advent of any home-built PC and Lezend experienced a fair share. MSFN members rose to the occasion offering their professional knowledge and with Lezend's personal drive to complete the project we have another MSFN winner! Lezend used MSFN and the internet for its full value. Hand selected components based on MSFN recommendations to include other external resources such as www.PriceWatch.com for sourcing hardware achieved a high-end system at competitive prices. Congratulations Lezend on a job well done.

  13. I do not know much about legal matters, but I used to be a paralegal, working my way through college. Word against word is much of the case. The witness will have to make a statement on your behalf. Then you will own them. Good luck,
  14. I just sold a ECS board with a P3 1Gig and was even considering the same for myself. Think I'll stay away from it since you had some probs. Thanks for the advise. I have to checkout Tom's Hardware as well. BTW I better stay on subject before I get my hand slapped. Take care
  15. www.msnwar.com It is another XP site. Before that it was a site for the U.S. Military in Germany. Before that I sold my PCs on it. Before that it was a site for AOL users. Before that it was a hacker site. Before that it was a drop on my old mans X$%*
  16. Shame ... Shame ... Shame I wonder why the poor guy never returned?
  17. use: Close Current Tag Sounds logical. Process of elimination. What are the connection speeds/types for everyone?
  18. Maybe the "internet temporary files" need purged. Is it IE or Netscape?
  19. Rick, what did you decide on? I am interested in the specifications as I will be building my personal Athlon system next month. Thanks
  20. BW, Excellent Work! Dignified look. Fthr, Good luck. I would buy from you. Be sure to ship to Germany okay?
  21. Really! Where would we be "without" a library full of hackers? Where would we be "with" a library full of hackers. MSN
  22. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article (Q293077) refers to the error message I have been receiving "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ". The bottom line is a driver issue according to the KBA. I still cannot pin point the specific driver, software and/or hardware, but I suspect it is actually a combination of driver and memory related issues. My next step is to replace the motherboard and CPU. I will also switch from SD-RAM to DDR. I am looking at the MSI 6380 KT3 Ultra ARU or the ASUS equivalent. The AMD XP 2000 and 2100 look pretty good right now. Unfortunately, the MSI board only has 3 RAM slots and supports 3 GB of RAM. I only want 1 GB of RAM and the 3 slot limitation leaves configuration issues. I have to do more research. In the past I have sided with Intel and ASUS, so I feel like I am in unchartered waters. Kind of like this thread. MSNwar - The FatMan My name is MSNwar and I am an MSFN Junkie. P.S. Odd how this only happens when playing StarCraft BroodWar. Maybe this is a hardware issue and not a game issue? Maybe I posted this in the wrong section?
  23. After replacing the "USB modem" with a new "PCI modem" StarCraft still crashes. The new error message is: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Question is what is IRQ "L" ? I did not know there exsist "L" ? So far I have replaced the RAM, Video Card, Hard Drive, Power Supply, and now a new modem. As mentioned before, I have reformatted the Hard Drive twice and preformed clean installations of WInXP Pro Retail Edition. The only thing I have not replaced are the motherboard and CPU. I have updated all drivers for hardware and I have all the necessary Windows Updates. I have even taken all USB devices off this system. 24. I am assuming you are running retail editions of XP and Diablo. I am not familiar with those messages unless you are getting the blue screen with this similar message: "Your computer has performed an illegal operation and windows is shutting down to prevent damage to your computer." In this event there are a few things you should do: 1. Check the PC hardware/software requirements that Diablo II requires to run. Look at the box for the list or the readme.txt 2. If you recently added any new hardware like a hard drive or RAM try the troubleshooting wizard in the maintenance and performance under control panel. 3. Some games will only run in 256 color mode. Change you display settings to 256 colors. You can always change the settings later. Right-click the desktop and the display applet will open. Select the Settings Tab and make the change. Also check your Video Cards Driver Version and scan for update(s) on the web and your local compueter. There is a way to make Win98 games run in Win98 mode on WinXP. Use the Help Section, type mode in the search box. Hope this helps. MSNwar - The FatMan My name is MSNwar and I am an MSFN Junkie.
  25. I asked a friend that plays Diablo II on WinXP Home Edition and he said he has never had any problems and it runs just fine. He said he installed it normally. Are you getting any error messages? I hope to get more info today and if anything is pertinent I'll revisit this thread. MSNwar - The FatMan
