I try to not sound biased and I rarely visit other sites anymore because I like getting a definitive and quick solution to PC problems. I have noticed that on other sites the answers to really hard problems are not "always" forthcoming. The threads seem to be drawn-out and often lengthy. At times the threads even appear to be intentionaly confusing by some people. Here at MSFN I see the oposite due to so many members with expert knowledge that can drill down to the very heart of the problem. What is really cool about the members here is if we do not know the answer we will tell you "I don't know. Lets wait on memberX to respond". We also post guides that are very helpful to the community where anyone can learn from and use as a source to answer problems. Our search engine is one of the most frequented features of the site that many guests use. I often wonder if staff from other sites are using our search engine as a source to answer questions from other forums. Thats okay in my book as I like to think ... MSFN.org - Where People Go To Know

Paul's review has been updated for the FINAL release of Windows Server 2003. April 2, 2003. Windows Server 2003 Review (Part One) Windows Server 2003 Review (Part Two) A small snipet from Paul's article, part two: As I mentioned in part one of my Windows Server 2003 review, the newest generation of Microsoft's family of server operating systems offers myriad small improvements over the previous generation, Windows 2000 Server. And like its predecessor, Windows Server 2003 brings with it some important choices for IT administrators, corporate decision makers, and anyone else with a stake in purchasing, deploying and supporting Microsoft server solutions. This time around, the changes are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. One might ask whether Windows Server 2003 is an impressive upgrade. Of course it is. But a better question, perhaps, is whether Windows Server 2003 offers enough improvements to justify the cost and time of upgrading. Conclusions It's already clear that Windows Server 2003 is an evolutionary rather than revolutionary upgrade over Win2K Server, and I suspect that most Win2K users will see little benefit in upgrading, unless they require a specific feature or change that's been addressed by Windows Server 2003. But that's not a complaint. Windows Server 2003 is an excellent product, the best server OS that's ever come out of Redmond. But Windows 2000 Server was no slouch either. By supplying key feature requests and keeping to a modest development cycle, Microsoft is delivering exactly the sort of upgrade its customers demand, and the product certainly supplies enough incentive for any remaining NT 4.0 hold-outs to make the leap. It's not glitzy or exciting like Windows XP, but then it's not supposed to be. --Paul Thurrott October 18, 2002 Updated October 21, 2002, October 22, 2002, December 22, 2002, April 2, 2003

Q816915 New Naming Schema for Microsoft Windows Hotfix Packages SUMMARY Microsoft has adopted a standardized naming schema for all hotfix packages (patches or updates) for Windows that are created and distributed by Microsoft. The new naming schema goes in effect in April 2003 for all update packages. Microsoft has adopted this new naming schema for hotfix packages for the following reasons: => It creates consistency across Microsoft hotfix packages. => It makes it easier to search for hotfix packages and Knowledge Base articles. => It clearly identifies the language of a hotfix package and the intended operating system, when applicable. This article contains additional information about the new standardized naming schema for Windows hotfix packages.

PC Phone Home is what I used in the past when I rented notebooks. The management responds very fast and professionally when such an incident happens.

My friends and I found this small but excellent program useful today and I just wanted to share it with anyone that might need it. Very small in size (2 MB on the hard drive) and fast. CDCheck is utility for prevention, detection and recovery of damaged files with emphasis on error detection. It can check each of your CDs and DVDs and indicate which files are corrupted. CDCheck reporting features tell you exactly where the problems are. CDs can get damaged in a number of ways, so the program helps you determine whether your data is safe before it's too late. The program also provides a comparison option that lets you select a reference directory on your hard drive (or some other device). CDCheck ensures that the contents on a disc match those in the directory, and effectively alerts you of differences. Besides that CDCheck supports creation of CRC files which provide extra safety that files on your CDs are still exactly the same as they were. In addition to CD-ROMs, the program can be used with all other local or removable media (disk drives, floppy disks, ZIP drives...) visible by the operating system (Windows Explorer). > read leaflet Taken. Welcome to Zork! Dungeon is a game of adventure, danger, and low cunning. In it you will explore some of the most amazing territory ever seen by mortal man. Hardened adventurers have run screaming from the terrors contained within. In Dungeon, the intrepid explorer delves into the forgotten secrets of a lost labyrinth deep in the bowels of the earth, searching for vast treasures long hidden from prying eyes, treasures guarded by fearsome monsters and diabolical traps! No DECsystem should be without one! Dungeon was created at the Programming Technology Division of the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science by Tim Anderson, Marc Blank, Bruce Daniels, and Dave Lebling. It was inspired by the Adventure game of Crowther and Woods, and the Dungeons and Dragons game of Gygax and Arneson. The original version was written in MDL (alias MUDDLE). The current version was translated from MDL into FORTRAN IV by a somewhat paranoid DEC engineer who prefers to remain anonymous, and was later translated to C.
