Ocassionaly we are asked "How do I become a beta tester" in the forums. Well, if you have been interested in beta testing something, but do not have the experience developers require, you might want to start here. Kinda like starting out in the mail room, but you can add it to your resume which might lead to bigger things! All good. Never did like M$ Bob. Packard-Hell did something similar, but that was dumped quickly. Sony still does a similar interface, but its targeted at home PCs. No. I don't see M$ going backwards. W95 applications are yesterday and I want tomorrow. I hope it is as stable or better than XP. I hope that the rumor that it might not include a swap/virtual memory file is true. RAM is so cheap and hard drives are so big I dont see the real need for it anymore.

I will have to look for it on Sky as I also heard from other people that it is really good.
-
Its just as stable as InfraView from what I have been told.

RESEARCHERS HAVE KILLED THE IDEA that most Linux developers are ex-Unix people. The latest survey carried out by Evans Data shows that 52% of Linux developers used to be Windows people. Many Linux developers were old Unix people initially but that, as Linux has gained in popularity, that demographic has changed. The free operating system's main advantages were stability, open source and its low price tag according to the developers. All is not a bed of roses though. There were plenty of complaints that the compilers available for Linux still needed work, 25% thought they were adequate at best. More interestingly, 56% thought that 64bit computing was important for both them and their companies. Most of them are stuck with x86 so AMD's Hammer processors could be onto a real winner. So there is no misunderstanding please know that a "developer" is usually a person or entity that develops software for commercial or non-commercial purposes. Source: inquirer news

A vulnerability in all versions of Windows could allow attackers to use a malicious Web site or HTML e-mail message to trap victims and take control of their PCs, warned Microsoft. The flaw in the scripting component of the operating system lets attackers run code through the scripting engine as if the program had been executed locally on a PC, allowing them to run their own programs or to take over the system. Microsoft labeled the flaw as critical in its announcement Wednesday. While the flaw can be found in every version of Windows--from Windows 98 to Windows XP--the potential danger is offset by two factors. Firstly, security measures already in place in e-mail clients are designed to defeat such HTML message attacks. Secondly, exploiting such flaws through Web pages requires that the person under attack actually visit the malicious site. Full Story and Patch Information: ZDNet Article

Do you have a system restore CD that came with the laptop? Thats the best way to format. There is always a format option on a system disk. The next best way to format a hard drive is to use the hard drive disk utiity from the hard drive manufacturer. The support section of all hard drive manufacturers web sites have a utility for formatting and other things. There are other utilities located at http://www.bootdisk.com and here are other resources: http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=show&id=24 Do you have a full version of Windows to do a complete installation. the_John has a good point if your CD is the full version. If you are upgrading from DOS then all you will need is a full version of DOS to format and partition the hard disk. Wish I was there with you
