  1. You may have noticed that your avatar has changed or reverted to the "blank person" picture when posting in the forum. This version of IPB puts your Profile Picture (the one that shows up in your Profile) as your avatar, unlike previous versions. So you would need to change your profile picture to change your avatar. And those of you who have an animated GIF as your profile picture, better remove that...
  2. If you run /GET-PACKAGES, does that one you can't remove show up in the list?
  3. Not when you're playing quake 3 arena and it pops up when you're trying to get some frags done The Game issue has already been discussed many times on here, that's why I made a Toggle Aero with my installer so you can quickly toggle off aero when going to "Game mode" then toggle aero back on when done...DP That would make more sense. Why would you want Aero enabled if you can't even see it?
  4. Here was my post that was gobbled up the other day. Apple found guilty of eBook price fixing! http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/10/4510338/apple-found-guilty-of-ebook-price-fixing
  5. Well I can't quote apparently... And my editor bar is unusable. I am fairly certain (cannot be proved, opinion) that the "new" forum version is tested against their previous version in upgrading. And NOT tested on forums that have been through multiple upgrades, or in some cases, forums that migrated between board softwares. I think that is where some of the problem comes from when board upgrades are done and not everything works out, especially codeboxes. Also: It appears you can paste pictures into your post, I did by accident. This picture here, is NOT pasted (its on Photobucket) to show you how the Quick Reply toolbar is, well, empty. @Charlotte: I always expected many users would be "shocked" by what this IPB version looks like. It is a lot different. But believe it or not, MSFN is way behind on getting this version and I have been using it on other boards for quite some time. Reboot is an exception as they do it "strangely" compared to the other sites. BUT I do know that it is possible to use the old skin with the new board... I know a site that did it although they said it wasn't easy and ended up not being 100% functional (I think they got lazy actually). EDIT: Quick Reply looks normal now (but ugly) so I think sometimes it just doesn't load all the way?
  6. I moderated this content already!

      Me, too, you're not alone...

  7. From what I understand, HKCR is just a "viewing point" of keys kept in other places, including HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes. I think you should try working in the actual location in HKLM instead. But as for why you get a permission error, maybe the ownership of the key needs to be changed.
  8. and the corresponding login page does what it is supposed to do (logging on): jaclaz Its interesting that you bring this up. For years (as probably with most people) I was interested in wallpapers, icons, screensavers, etc but as time went on I stopped bothering with these things. When I am using my computer, I rarely see my wallpaper. The exception is in the morning on the multi-monitor setup before I get my apps up. So what use is a wallpaper? I don't change it at home anymore. Icons went away for me a long time ago. It was the combination of two things. The first being that I was informed that having stuff on your desktop was actually bad for performance. The second was once I could put shortcuts to often used things on the Taskbar and much later when Windows 7 (I never really used Vista) had the Start Menu show the top 10 most used programs. Now I never go to the desktop except for rare occassions when I need to format a USB key, since that is where I have that program. And screen savers are a similar thing. The screen saver comes on when you are not using the computer and its probably because you are not near it. You wouldn't be there to see your screen saver since you'd be busy doing something else most of the time. Even the case of Shiva, who others have nicknamed "The Drugs Computer" because of its screen saver ended up just being a distraction you can see from the corner of your eye if you are doing something else in the room. Of course I would totally flip around on this subject if they include After Dark in Windows 8.1.
  9. Not an 'overall' solution since Windows handles applications by filetype... However, take a look at this example: http://rhubbarb.wordpress.com/2011/09/23/vlc-dvd-w7/ We see in this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\DVD\shell\play\command That the command is: %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe” /prefetch:4 /device:DVD “%L So, in the example of DVD playback, I would imagine that changing the path from ProgramFiles(x86) to ProgramFiles would suffice to change it to the 64bit version.
  10. Iceman's tutorial for WinPE is still relevant for ADK, obviously paths are going to be different. Regarding answer file questions, check out this thread:
  11. ADK is the newest version of WAIK. It works fine with Windows 7, Vista and of course Windows 8. For some reason MS stopped calling it WAIK and just calls it ADK now.
  12. It is not an option in Autounattend.xml, but you can still script it. If you have in your FirstLogonCommands, you can use intl.cpl and an XML file to set the date format. Here's an example of the XML itself: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/michkap/archive/2006/05/30/610505.aspx Here's two other pages that might help: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721887%28v=ws.10%29.aspx http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-ie/goglobal/bb964650%28en-us%29.aspx
  13. The WAIK is indeed large but I think it is worth it. But you should probably get the ADK for Windows 8 instead. I don't know about any of the tools that are out there, I don't use any of them.
  14. No, there is no "Sleep" in modern ui, just "Shutdown" and "Restart" Looking at this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/41bb0d2b-5f84-4585-97b8-18528f53d486/sleep-and-hibernation-is-working-on-server-2012-with-started-hypervisor-i-do-not-know-why It appears that Server 2012's sleep ability (or clickable option) is dependent on the video driver.
  15. Merged max's topic with the existing one in the Beta forum.
  16. JFYI, we have a thread about ReactOS if anyone is interested.
  17. WSIM only validates against whatever rules are kept in the catalog file. It has no idea about how Windows actually behaves when it processes the file. Case in point, if you were to put an invalid character in ComputerName, WSIM won't catch this. But Windows will throw an error when it tries to set it during an install.
  18. DISM can do it to a mounted image. I never tried it myself. It would appear the first step is to GET the associations, then EXPORT the one you want to modify. You should get an XML response. Then you could see how that XML looks like and how to modify it. Then use the IMPORT option to put it back. Also, it seems like you can use it on a live OS, since the documentation shows examples of using the /ONLINE option. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824855.aspx
  19. This is what an internal speaker looks like: http://www.custom-build-computers.com/image-files/speakers-to-a-motherboard.jpg Older PCs had an actual speaker inside but it has been quite some time since I've seen one of those.
  20. Its actually funny. This problem of Explorer not being able to delete a folder named with the "Delete" key is NOT a problem in Vista. It WAS a problem in Win9x however. But in that case, you could only delete it using the command prompt. In XP and further, this problem with Explorer giving the "can't find the file" error no longer exists.
  21. I was in the call center business during the time the switchover happened. All the tier one reps are pretty much CSRs. They are handicapped by what they are allowed to do, they don't have the technical or applied knowledge of the systems and mainly operate off a script. There used to be a point where you could get an engineer on a first hit on the call center, but even then the script and support limitations were in effect. And they were surely enforced. Something happened where the real techs got pushed out and the cheaper (salary) CSR type person took over that job. It isn't just ISPs either. The real problem is when someone with some technical knowledge (like us) would call for something specific. This is a situation that the tech support person is not prepared for an often won't respond properly. As an example, I was having trouble with my internet connection. I was able to verify, on my own, that the problem was not on my own end and had identified which portion of the ISP's network was having an issue. I called into their tech support and reported that specific link was having a latency issue and it should be reported to their engineers. However, since all the rep had "heard" was that my internet wasn't working, they said to reboot the modem and to connect my PC to the modem and not use the router!

  23. The topic was created by a spammer and has been trashed. Sometimes, threads that are trashed or hidden, if they were the newest reply, will still appear in main index list. Even though the topic isn't actually there. I think that is caused by either session or cookie data.
  24. Yep that hotfix did work! I finished testing on Friday, boy was I relieved.
