Regarding that SecureBoot message. Its confusing a lot of people because normally you do not see the build number on the desktop unless Windows isn't activated. However this is not the case. You can be activated and still see that message. Also, it is not a requirement to enable SecureBoot on UEFI systems unless they are a tablet. So if any Windows 8 system was installed on a GPT disk but SecureBoot is not enabled, the user will see that message after updating to Windows 8.1 from the Store. (it is possible a clean install also does this but I haven't tested it yet). And to make matters worse, not all hardware that does support UEFI for GPT boot (especially 3rd party emulators like MSI's 2.2TB Infinity) even have a SecureBoot option in the BIOS. I'm not sure why Microsoft would make all Windows 8.1 OSes show this message, except maybe to brag that the hardware it is installed on isn't certified for the OS. Also found this online, maybe Charlotte can use it...

Note about updating to Windows 8.1 from the Store
Tripredacus replied to Tripredacus's topic in Windows 8
Ok I have one answer so far. If you have purchase your computer and Windows 8 came pre-installed, or Windows 7 was pre-installed as part of the Downgrade Rights program, but are using a local account only, you can ask the computer manufacturer for a Windows 8.1 Recovery DVD. As I would expect anytime you go to an OEM to ask for recovery media, they usually charge for it. I am still waiting to see what the case would be if the computer was purchased with the OEM System Builder Kit version of Windows 8 installed. -
Note about updating to Windows 8.1 from the Store

I am seeing if there are any alternate ways. I wouldn't be surprised if MS hadn't considered that option before preparing the product for release. -
A split topic greeting, not sure I've seen that before.

Choosing to install Windows 8.1, then when entering a product key, its kinda picky. An OEM key from the BIOS returns an invalid key message. Another key I tried gave me a message "This product key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8." I would presume maybe the key it is looking for is either from a retail SKU or one from the OEM System Builder Kit. EDIT: the website actually says that it only works with retail. -
If by "it first came out" you mean how it was shown in the theaters, I have another one for ya. I saw Brotherhood of the Wolf in the theaters and it was edited on the VHS release. It wasn't anything horrible (or at least as horrible as the ending) but it was definately changed. As for me, probably will be taking a break from movies for a while. Last night I watched Fist of the North Star. It is fair to say that I am unfamiliar with the original story. This movie wasn't the worst manga adaptation I've seen, but most of the movie had an 80s B sci-fi movie feel to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fist_of_the_North_Star_%281995_film%29

I just deployed and activated. Downloading the update will take some time. Last week it took nearly 18 hours to download the 8.1 update... -

I find no problem leaving Malwarebytes installed on a system, but I always have it not do any active scanning. -

The Windows 8 that you have, is it RT or a more normal type of Windows? I can test on Windows 8 x64 with that to see if it would work... presuming I can get to the download that is. -
Do you have an opposite?

About computer recycling law, has it passed in your area?
Tripredacus replied to ROTS's topic in General Discussion
Actually, JFYI, the - I guess only - CRT glass recycling plant in the US is near NY: http://www.nulifeglass.com/index.htm (it is supposed to be the "cleanest" of the possible alternatives ) jaclaz New York State is a big place. I haven't the knowledge of which region in the state Charlotte is from. The place in your link is actually news to me, but it is one of the places that charges a fee. I wonder what it is and if it is worth it to be rid of 4 CRTs. -
Alice, Sweet Alice bills it as starring Brooke Shields (similar to how The Van starred Danny DeVito) but is featured in very few scenes. Overall it was fine, revealing the real killer before the movie was over, which gave the ending a strange feel. However the last peice was revealed, the motive, afterwards just needing to show the wrap-up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice,_Sweet_Alice

When you download that file, it prefers to use the Microsoft Download Manager which is as awesome as you'd expect. I'm going to grab it for funs, since MS still hasn't RTM Windows 8 RT, they have 4 days left. Anyways, I doubt anyone would care about it.

Maybe... I am not sure if I've seen the remake. The (1972) version I have is the MGM Movie Time version, it is not a rental. The other censored film I have is Possession. This one made sense. As I watched it, I initially thought it was one of those "art" type things, some filming genre that meant for you to think about it. The movie was severely disjointed and skipped around a ton. Nope, it turns out the VHS I had was missing nearly 30 minutes of footage! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Possession_%281981_film%29

Right label wrong capacity DELL hard drive? Tool?
Tripredacus replied to ROTS's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Regarding disks being detected as the wrong size, a damaged disk can certainly cause this. Anyone remember when I had that 3.4GB drive that was detected as 211TB in the BIOS? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/162166-smart-error-wrong-size-in-bios/ -
About computer recycling law, has it passed in your area?
Tripredacus replied to ROTS's topic in General Discussion
Of course, States being what they are, they are all different. I believe that technically, no electronics are allowed to be picked up with garbage, even on large items pickup. I mean, that is the law on the books. The garbage men do not look into what is in your garbage can before they put it in the compactor, and I bet most of them couldn't care less what you had in there. The only thing that is a real no-no is any television or monitor. I've yet to see people toss out an LCD, but many try to put out CRT and Projection sets. The garbage company will not even touch those items, and they can sit there for weeks before they disappear by whatever means. And since the garbage company are not police and have no police escort, it really comes down to it being an unenforced crime. The only type of enforcement of electronics dumping comes to other companies being caught doing it, with inspections or whatever. There are certainly recycling centers sprinkled about that accept certain things and even some that would pay you for it if you brought in enough stuff. The tough part seems to be that it is difficult to find a place to recycle CRTs or otherwise dispose of them. Either a recycler will say they do not accept them, or that you need to pay them to take it. As such I have yet to find a place to recycle CRTs and I have 4 sitting in my basement awaiting some fate. 3 were monitors that went underwater, and the other is a television that failed a rejuvenation. -
The Last House on the Left (1972): I've now come across my 3rd censored VHS tape and this one is it. Like a previously found title (The Van) it was obvious that scenes were cut. With the case of The Van, cut scenes were replaced with footage of a beach, but in this movie they just weren't there. Again I was able to confirm that this was the case after reading the write-up of the movie on Wikipedia, and how the plot summary did not match up to what was on the tape.
