  1. If by "it first came out" you mean how it was shown in the theaters, I have another one for ya. I saw Brotherhood of the Wolf in the theaters and it was edited on the VHS release. It wasn't anything horrible (or at least as horrible as the ending) but it was definately changed. As for me, probably will be taking a break from movies for a while. Last night I watched Fist of the North Star. It is fair to say that I am unfamiliar with the original story. This movie wasn't the worst manga adaptation I've seen, but most of the movie had an 80s B sci-fi movie feel to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fist_of_the_North_Star_%281995_film%29
  2. I just deployed and activated. Downloading the update will take some time. Last week it took nearly 18 hours to download the 8.1 update...
  3. I find no problem leaving Malwarebytes installed on a system, but I always have it not do any active scanning.
  4. The Windows 8 that you have, is it RT or a more normal type of Windows? I can test on Windows 8 x64 with that to see if it would work... presuming I can get to the download that is.
  5. Do you have an opposite?
  6. Actually, JFYI, the - I guess only - CRT glass recycling plant in the US is near NY: http://www.nulifeglass.com/index.htm (it is supposed to be the "cleanest" of the possible alternatives ) jaclaz New York State is a big place. I haven't the knowledge of which region in the state Charlotte is from. The place in your link is actually news to me, but it is one of the places that charges a fee. I wonder what it is and if it is worth it to be rid of 4 CRTs.
  7. Alice, Sweet Alice bills it as starring Brooke Shields (similar to how The Van starred Danny DeVito) but is featured in very few scenes. Overall it was fine, revealing the real killer before the movie was over, which gave the ending a strange feel. However the last peice was revealed, the motive, afterwards just needing to show the wrap-up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice,_Sweet_Alice
  8. When you download that file, it prefers to use the Microsoft Download Manager which is as awesome as you'd expect. I'm going to grab it for funs, since MS still hasn't RTM Windows 8 RT, they have 4 days left. Anyways, I doubt anyone would care about it.
  9. Maybe... I am not sure if I've seen the remake. The (1972) version I have is the MGM Movie Time version, it is not a rental. The other censored film I have is Possession. This one made sense. As I watched it, I initially thought it was one of those "art" type things, some filming genre that meant for you to think about it. The movie was severely disjointed and skipped around a ton. Nope, it turns out the VHS I had was missing nearly 30 minutes of footage! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Possession_%281981_film%29
  10. A program I've used to test video cards is called OCCT. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/156709-my-newer-pc-build-is-locking-up-or-freezing-and-not-sure-why/?hl=occt#entry997831
  11. Regarding disks being detected as the wrong size, a damaged disk can certainly cause this. Anyone remember when I had that 3.4GB drive that was detected as 211TB in the BIOS? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/162166-smart-error-wrong-size-in-bios/
  12. Of course, States being what they are, they are all different. I believe that technically, no electronics are allowed to be picked up with garbage, even on large items pickup. I mean, that is the law on the books. The garbage men do not look into what is in your garbage can before they put it in the compactor, and I bet most of them couldn't care less what you had in there. The only thing that is a real no-no is any television or monitor. I've yet to see people toss out an LCD, but many try to put out CRT and Projection sets. The garbage company will not even touch those items, and they can sit there for weeks before they disappear by whatever means. And since the garbage company are not police and have no police escort, it really comes down to it being an unenforced crime. The only type of enforcement of electronics dumping comes to other companies being caught doing it, with inspections or whatever. There are certainly recycling centers sprinkled about that accept certain things and even some that would pay you for it if you brought in enough stuff. The tough part seems to be that it is difficult to find a place to recycle CRTs or otherwise dispose of them. Either a recycler will say they do not accept them, or that you need to pay them to take it. As such I have yet to find a place to recycle CRTs and I have 4 sitting in my basement awaiting some fate. 3 were monitors that went underwater, and the other is a television that failed a rejuvenation.
  13. The Last House on the Left (1972): I've now come across my 3rd censored VHS tape and this one is it. Like a previously found title (The Van) it was obvious that scenes were cut. With the case of The Van, cut scenes were replaced with footage of a beach, but in this movie they just weren't there. Again I was able to confirm that this was the case after reading the write-up of the movie on Wikipedia, and how the plot summary did not match up to what was on the tape.
  14. Except Taskkill, that one was typed wrong.
  15. The Windows 8.1 Update will back some files up during the upgrade process. It creates a Windows.old and will backup (at least) these folders: - Perflogs - Program Files - Program Files (x86) * - Users - Windows * if using a 64bit OS So if you are using a small SSD, or are low on disk space, verify that you have enough free space for Windows to back up these folders or else the upgrade may fail with an error. I do not believe that the update verifies enough free space is available for the backup prior to making that backup and attempting to perform the upgrade.
  16. I doubt Media Center has anything to do with it. The error you posted specifically refers to a driver. The specific driver should be mentioned in the error screen, or may be in Event Viewer after the 8.1 Update rolls back.
  17. Travel and cooking. Two things I rarely bother with.
  18. Live Wire: a "terrorist" buys a secret formula that makes water explode when mixed with acid. I put terrorist in quotes because that's what the description on the box says. There may be some backstory or cut scenes that were not in the film to show what his true motivations were. The entire film shows that he is owed money from shady government types and when they don't pay, he sends some guys out to assassinate those guys. There was a perfect opportunity for the guy to get his money at the end of the movie, but the writers didn't take advantage of that part, and instead decided the guy would kill himself instead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_Wire_%28film%29
  19. After reading some of the early 8.1 (Australian) Adopters on TechNet yesterday, I decided to see how well my Windows 8 image updates. For example, some users complained of not being able to run recovery anymore, or 8.1 creating additional partitions. Well it took approximately 18 hours to download the 3.6GB update... Its supposedly installing now.
  20. Emphasis mine. Of course as time goes on, Windows is changed to protect people from themselves because Microsoft has no care to properly educate people. We had a discussion about this before, about why the UAC exists. No, I'd say that Windows 2000 would be the last "real" Windows. One could argue that XP would be so instead, but the building blocks were already in place when it would complain about not having anti-virus installed.
  21. Why after setup? Can't you do it using the answer file?
  22. There was no solution from Microsoft, other than to enable Boot to Desktop. http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2013/07/24/step-by-step-boot-directly-to-the-desktop-in-windows-8-1.aspx
  23. Fist of Legend. Apparently I had seen the ending before and never knew the name of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fist_of_Legend
  24. I pretty much wrote off that D-Link news when I read it on twitter over the weekend. For a couple of reasons: 1. D-Link routers are bargain basement products. You get what you pay for. 2. D-Link routers work like crap with base firmware. Anyone who has a brain and buys one of these would put DD-WRT on it. 3. The default setting for the admin page being public is DISABLED. So there ya go.
  25. Good point. My Windows is not activated either. I'll try changing the RGB BGR again tomorrow.
