When you are not using the wired connection, what do you do with it? Are the setting still set or have you disabled it?

Possible to Boot from 4 TB System Volume with BIOS?
Tripredacus replied to NoelC's topic in Windows 8
NoelC, you can boot GPT disk on BIOS using an MSI board and its hack-jobby 2.2TB+ Infinity UEFI emulation gizmo. http://reboot.pro/topic/16315-22tb-infinity-vs-uefi-with-winpe/ -
Post Pictures and Specifications of your computer here!

SR209 seems to have a lock on the back by the PSU, SR105 does not. Do you know a way to tell other than measuring the dimensions? -
I guess it depends. The only one I have experience with is the Intel NUC... but then it only has an HDMI port and nothing else. :\

Post Pictures and Specifications of your computer here!
Tripredacus replied to ripken204's topic in Hardware Hangout
I finally finished moving Shiva to a new chassis. The original was one I bought in the 20th century that had the over-the-top slip on "side panel" which I very much did not like. I had acquired a user server chassis (trash rescue) and decided to port everything over. My wire management may not be that great, but again I have made sure not to put wires in the fans. This is the Chenbro SR105. I had some time wasting trying to get the correct screws for the hard drive bay. Some perks to this over the old, now have a fan in the hard drive bay. Also I will have front panel USB! I do not have the correct sized fan for the rear exhaust, but it has enough screw hole to put in a smaller one. You can see dust on both the video and sound card, however it does not come off with the canned air. PSU fit nice without needing for an adapter plate. Need one more side panel thumb screw. The side panel is not in perfect shape, but it stays on. Also need to put in a black floppy drive. I have them but not handy. I have not turned it on yet! I hope it works! Will get the rest together on the upcoming weekend. -
Some important service can not be started or modified

Try logging in with another user account, preferrably one in the Administrators group, and see if they are still like that. -
Integrate wpi into windows 8.1 iso but how?
Tripredacus replied to Baun666's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
The disk is mostly the same. Is there anything special about WPI that makes it so that integrating it requires special instructions vs how other applications get integrated? -
Keep yer beer goggles away from Cortana. Remember, she's not a real girl.

Has the EULA for nLite been revised to allow for business use? Understanding that Embedded is not a consumer OS... I can't imagine that your Embedded Partner would support the editing of the install source.

Take a look here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/158252-trace-why-windows-8-boots-shutsdown-or-hibernates-slowly/ Also tell us what notebook you have.

Windows 7 users urged to uninstall broken update that wreaks havoc on
Tripredacus replied to xper's topic in Technology News
This update may cause some Windows 7 installations to enter Notification Mode and display a messagebox informing that Windows was not Genuine. Removing the update seems to fix it. -
Aero Glass for Windows Thread... Closed?
Tripredacus replied to NoelC's topic in Site & Forum Issues
No need to delete this thread. We like to keep these types of things around as a reminder or example for others. -
My first guess is that the folder's name is the delete character, ALT+255. In Windows 98, you could create a folder with the delete and only be able to access it from the command prompt. Trying to enter it from Explorer would result in a "folder does not exist" message. Explorer starting with XP has been able to enter a folder with this name... so if that is the case you should be able to get to it. Do you get an error when you try to open it from Explorer?

Are you trying to install IE7 from a standalone installer or from Windows Update? Have you done any fiddling with the registry, such as that method to make Windows Update think that XP is an Embedded OS?

Windows Task Scheduler Not Running Tasks
Tripredacus replied to KaddirB's topic in Aero Glass For Windows 8+
In the Task Scheduler Library, you can select the appropriate task on the top and then look on the History tab. It allows you to see the success or failure of a task in an Event Viewer type look.- 90 replies

Now see, you said browsers don't matter. As a matter of testing, it does. If you can provide some browser versions, others might be able to see. And give some link examples so we can go there and see what could be the problem.

Are You Really Home Alone At Your Computer ?
Tripredacus replied to Monroe's topic in Technology News
It seems to be a scare article. I was certain that everything has millions of organisms living on or in it. Doesn't even the human body have tons of itty-bitty things living on the skin and in the hair? -
There are two reasons why you get that place holder image. First is that it is in a typeface or language that your computer or browser cannot render. It doesn't have a character to display so it shows that. In the early days of Firefox, it would show a ? symbol instead. The other reason why this happens is if you are blocking scripts. Many websites rely on javascript being enabled on one or other domains in order to render the page properly. When they are blocked, these symbols will appear on the "vertices" of the menu function. This is only a more recent thing I've noticed. Since your picture is showing unknown characters grouped together, as in it looks to be sentences, I'd say it is reason #1. See here for a reference: http://superuser.com/questions/526680/why-only-some-unicode-characters-are-visible-on-firefox As for how to properly approach your solution we'd need to know what browser you are using, language/locale of your PC and a URL where this happens.

I seem to recall that Windows 95 could be installed in two ways. One, which I never did as the software available to me in my early computing days was the result of hand-me-downs and stuff found in the trash. So my way of installing Windows 98 is to install Toshiba DOS 5, then installing Windows 95, then Windows 98FE Upgrade. I had always heard that it was preferrable to install DOS prior to installing Windows 95, as it is possible to install Windows 95 on a blank disk. Is there any sort of different working in the DOS/95 relationship if DOS was installed first? Or is that just an old-wives tale?
