I have a feeling that "segment of computing" will have a following, similar to the development being done on the Occulus Rift.

The Start Menu shown during the Briefing was not translucent or transparent. It looked like the normal blue one from the TP, with the exception that you could snap the Start Menu to your entire screen for whatever reason.

This is so new there are no real articles about it. From the Windows 10 Briefing live broadcast: http://news.microsoft.com/windows10story/ Which may not help many as the event won't last forever.

How do I move a Photoshop layer 1/2 pixel?
Tripredacus replied to larryb123456's topic in Graphics and Designing Art
That would be presuming that Photoshop would actually put the pixels where you want them to be. It would be worth a test, but you may end up with unwanted results. Regarding my use of Fireworks, it comes down to my usage history. I had an "LE" version of Photoshop 5 originally, it came with some hardware I bought. I first got a Macromedia Suite license from college for version 2 software (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Freehand, Director, Flash, etc) and then one for MX 2004. I had used Fireworks 2 along with the Photoshop 5 LE and found that (at that time) the only real difference was that Photoshop has filters. I basically ditched Photoshop and only have been using Fireworks MX 2004. I have since used newer versions of Photoshop through work, such as CS3 but my familiarity with Fireworks makes it my goto application. Regarding PSD files, it does support *some* ... it is version dependent. You probably would want to stick with a parallel version. IDK if Fireworks is still included in the Creative Suite, it was in CS3. Send me a PM and I'll see what I can do. -
How do I move a Photoshop layer 1/2 pixel?
Tripredacus replied to larryb123456's topic in Graphics and Designing Art
Its been some time since I used photoshop... but do you not have the ability to type in the actual coordinates/dimensions of a selected object? This is a screenshot of such controls in Fireworks: Photoshop must have something similar. -
Exe's won't open in win 98 except by using run. How to upgrade

Merged both topics. -
Why is WMP Network Sharing Service (WMPNetworkSvc) modifying my files?
Tripredacus replied to a topic in Windows 7
I've noticed that some programs, if they "open" a file, the modified date will change even if nothing is actually saved. -
Global Warming Is a Stick They're Beating Us With
Tripredacus replied to ZortMcGort11's topic in General Discussion
I would be fine to accept that man is the cause for global warming and we should do something about it, however there are some problems: - all the FUD reported by the news use terms like "warmest on record" which only goes back to some point in the 1800s and ignores the previous millions or years that man has lived on the planet. - Researchers that have been able to determine that the planet has been warmer in a past where no automobiles or coal plants existed, and that there is good evidence that the climate changes in cycles over time are ignored or lambasted. - Government (country or local) policies are still made based on monetary issues... In my mind, if we were "doomed" then we wouldn't need to worry about how much this or that costs, no need to tax or fine people, etc. Just switch on over the environmentally friendly stuff but no, we can't just get rid of gas or coal because those companies make mega buxx. - The science itself seems to ignore other things that have an effect on the climate such as sun spots/activity and changes in the magnetic field. -
Please be aware that the forum rules have not changed. Even if the MD5 or SHA1 match up, downloading an OS from anywhere other than a Microsoft or Partner website is still illegal.

Not insinuating anything, I am plainly stating that (IMHO) the *need* for a multiple display is a "niche", related to: graphical design (very high level one) and that counts for two fingers of my left hand, namely thumb and indexCAD/CAM (also rather highish level) and that counts for middle, ring and pinkysoftware engineering (because you tell me so ) One you might be forgetting... and I would consider it separate from both graphical design and software engineering (while still containing portions of both) is web development. The reasons why my computer has 3 monitors was because I was doing web development at the time. Having multiple monitors is essential for that kind of work imo.

Hmmm well I usually would say, what is the part number? Then again, none of my Windows 8.1 disc images are in .ISO format but the part number is the filename. Was this downloaded from the Microsoft Retail link?

All this tablet talk is really about the interface. Whether that is what is on the screen, or the physical interface. Typing on a touchscreen is a disaster and a lot of these attachable keyboards (like netbooks) are not as good or are too small and uncomfortable to use. But the reason why tablet adoption has failed to overtake notebooks is probably the same reason why PDAs were never able to. These are separate devices and need to be used for specific purposes and not to replace the notebooks. It isn't as easy as how the industry erased the calculator by putting it into every electronic device you can own. Heck, even that is an example I can point to. I'd much rather use a real calculator (or the one on my desktop) than the one that is on my phone.

This right here is an example of why indexing seems like a wasted effort. Third party search programs like the one Noel posted, as well as the locate32 that I use, prove this. I presume these programs search similar to what we had built-in XP or the previous one in Win9x.

Are you missing a \ in your path at the end? Should it be C:\temp\diagslow\Windows.etl ?
-
I personally disable indexing as well.

SSD Drive Disappears After Sleep
Tripredacus replied to Glenn9999's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
If you are using pagefile/hibernation/vmem I'd see if possible to put those things on another disk. Is this possible or you only have an SSD in there? -
I personally dislike ISP provided modem/router combination dealies... because they are a pain to work with. I always prefer having a simple modem and then use my own router on it.

It is my understanding that these 3036 errors can be ignored unless you are having trouble finding files known to actually exist in your search path. Is this the case?

Cant reinstall OEM windows 8.1 on brand new laptop
Tripredacus replied to Ohana's topic in Windows 8
The only downloads of Windows 8.1 is for the Retail version. If installing Windows 8.1 (officially) you need the appropriate default product key which will instruct the OS to look at the BIOS for the activation key. These product keys are confidential and are not the ones you find online. Was MyCom the company the computer was purchased from? -
Why does it seem that MS spends most of their time working with the presentation aspect of their OS? I wouldn't care if it still looked like Windows 95 if they only took care of updating the underlying components. Since when did OS design become a fashion show?

New Stars Wars Movie -- will you go to see it?
Tripredacus replied to ZortMcGort11's topic in The Media Hub
I do not like to time commitment when going to see a movie in the theater recently. Sometimes you can sit there 3-4 hours with all the commercials shown in the beginning. I may change my mind, as I've seen all of them before, but I might just wait until it comes out on DVD/BD. -
It might be the type of disk, see here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173265-formatting-an-external-drive-using-different-interfaces/#entry1091982

Disk order in Windows is determined by how the BIOS enumerates the devices at system load. So the easiest way to say it is that whatever shows up as Disk 0 in Disk Management was the first device to be fully recognized. There's a KB about this: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/937251/
