  1. Sure theres more to come and when they target Firefox for something what ya gonna do? Stick head in sand or hide in a hole or jump to the next newest thing, I don't think so Tim. I'm just not the type to go running scared. I just went and downloaded that Firefox 1.0 cause last version i had was around 0.87 or whatever but old. Anyway's I was using Mozilla 1.8 nightly prior to the Maxthon and last Firefox I had sucked and i had uninstalled. One thing I do see is those Mozilla things don't render the images very good, plain butt ugly or maybe some can't tell the difference. I'll try this 1.0 afterwhile and see if its any better. First have to go see if theres any Unattended stuff on it. Nowaday's its better to have an alternate plan. Just in case!!!
  2. Unfortunately where I work our TOSHIBA SATELLITE PRO started doing that and even after changing battery it died about 3 months later. Was a good tough dependable laptop though. Was old though
  3. Hmmm thinking of it that way I guess your right about using the image in your sig. But the major place will be those sites I mentioned just like that spyware/ad crap. But, I will not be swayed to use a certain browser because of BS Crap like this has been going on for so many year's all this scare tactic's about new vulnerabilities and one browser better than another, so what. They'll release a fix sooner or later and I am not afraid to lose my PC, that's why I have my UnattendXP ready and waiting. I do use Maxthon though and its based off the same engine they referring to I would guess. This site could also turn off allowing images in sigs but must we get to that point? I don't think so but it's their option. Just for the record I do have Firefox installed but it's not my primary browser and I don't think I see it being in that spot unless Maxthon wants my money. But then maybe the ADMINS better turn off all images on this site and everyone run and turn off all of them on your own site, hurry now
  4. BSOD on a Windows NT 4.0 with my boot.ini BSOD on a Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Discovery of an Unusual recovery I have never seen before and haven't ever seen on the Web Discovered this last night at work after I crashed my NT 4.0 Workstation. My job gives me semi-Admin User privleges. They also run that Novell virii also out there so I'm not sure what went wrong. I edited the registry deleting the OS2, Posix entries here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, "SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems Reason? I'm tired of getting those EA DATA. SF files when I transfer files to a floppy to copy to laptop. They are undeletable except by format. Read that doing that would stop it. Rebooted BSOD Critical Stop Error (yada yada yada) Panicked at that point cause I know NT don't have recovery console and very limited options. We keep none of our files on the PC's out there only the programs. On that PC we have a bunch of software though and I have no access to the CDs at night. Uh Oh I went to a Windows 2000 Pro PC which was nearby and formatted a floppy with plain DOS and added files from what I read from one site. Consisting of, Boot.ini, Bootsect.dos, Ntdetect.com, ntldr My Boot.ini on my webpage above Booted the NT machine and after selecting the Default in boot.ini it popped up "Windows 2000 Press F8 to bring up boot options menu or whatever it say's there" can't remember exactly Anyone ever worked on NT Machines know's that's not an option. Holy Cow!!! I pressed F8 Gave me the Full selectable Menu like you see in 2000, and XP What???? Thats not an option in NT I selected "Last Known Good Configuration" and the thing booted right into NT. Holy Cow, this stuff don't come with NT I know that the ntldr for Windows 2000 gave me those options but the best part is I was able to get in there and restore what I had done. Rebooted without floppy and it work's again... I have never ever seen this info on the Web and thought I'd share it with some Admins and anyone needing it. Had I been thinking at the time and I almost did go to another NT station to create this floppy and probably would have never recovered it that night. You do need to know what the person done so you can undo but least when you get in there you have the option of recovering stuff may otherwise have been lost. This may work with XP's files but on my system I don't have the Bootsect.dos BTW, - I did experiment and copied same files from the NT PC and did not have those options on reboot. I redone my floppy so I have it ready in case this ever happen's again. If this helps just 1 person then it was well worth typing all this and sharing the Power of Knowledge
  5. ^_^ You don't need that with cmdlines.txt, its automatically added and executed at T-13 or so. gunsmokingman's method may work for some things but only for single USER programs so I'm thinking may not work with Anti-Virii proggies. Its a try and see thing. Might take a look at Deploy.chm and look at this; Limitations of and Usage Notes on Cmdlines.txt But as we all know MS is wrong in their help occasionally so let everyone else know
  6. One thing is that the sites that would put this stuff up probably are questionable anyway so if you visiting you know that already. Does that make sense? You probably won't find this stuff on the majority of web sites. Like this also was on one of those sites but I done it intentionally for the knowledge. http://maxxpsoft.com/files/adwarejunk.html
  7. If you have no conflicts or problems then run the secondary software firewall as some said it will block outgoing in case someone clicks wrong thing like this; http://maxxpsoft.com/files/adwarejunk.html I found this on someones computer on a router with over 467 bad things from Adaware so went and done it myself to test.
  8. I think its simply cmdlines.txt may be too early to run a setup on whatever that is. Try it later in RunoncEX.cmd Programs running any kind of msi will not install that early. I did a Google search trying to see what AV710sv is but came up Nullstring
  9. I voted ME but I didn't have the problems others had after I discovered to install my Upgrade CD as a full version. My beginning day's at the Unattend but not really Unattended if you know what I mean. I also hated they tried to kill DOS with it but was grateful it was back in XP and theres even a future Dos by different name coming up that's more like Nix.
  10. Disregard that part, part of my application to automatically add those Reg settings.. What you are interested in is HKCU which is HKEY_CURRENT_USER then drill down each Key like Software then Microsoft and so on. Export entire registry key StartPage and the Desktop That help?
  11. You can save these Reg keys complete and then i execute in RunoncEX.cmd during an Unattended. Don't remember right now which one it is or may be both FLAG1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage FLAG1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop
  12. Tarun thanks I see now I don't need the Native at all since its for more intense number crunching basically. Things you look over...
  13. Fusion **** 399 if you buy. This poor man will have to do without.. lol Might be surprised if you go back through Components after you been working on something almost a year and remove the unneeded ones and the size is reduced by half. I just done that to my UnattendXP app. I guess I added them experimenting with different things. Just compiled to P and yep size was reduced nearly half but Tarun what are the advantages/disadvantages? I don't have MSDN installed right now to do help, gave that up several year's ago as I found best answer's come from I-net mostly.
  14. The AddBackslash routine which is great Just add it in the Public Functions seection of the inimod.bas Public Function AddBackslash(strPath As String) As String 'Receives the App.Path and returns a path containing backslash 'USAGE: SomePath = AddBackslash(App.Path) & "YourFile.xxx" If Right$(strPath, 1) <> "\" Then AddBackslash = strPath & "\" Else AddBackslash = strPath End If End Function
  15. Sorry was uploading my new version UnattendXP then had to search. I've done some modifying to this myself adding a couple features if you want it then MSG me and leave email and I'll send. WriteToIni Dim MyX As String, MyY As String MyX = Me.Top WriteToIni AddBackslash(App.Path) & "UnattendXP.ini", "ABOUT", "MainX", MyX GetFromIni MyX = GetFromIni(AddBackslash(App.Path) & "UnattendXP.ini", "ABOUT", "MainX") Get and save as IniMod.bas Get the last post by Inverso, this has proved to be the easiest least confusing ini routine I have ever had. and I have tried them all
  16. ahhh, Yep very possible to use it will need to be included. I have seen a tool called initool.exe and was wondering, I have all my ini modding done by a .bas file included within my app. I searched for years for the right ini thing and came across this after trying nearly all. Do you have a link to that ocx I can check it out? Yeah this probably wouldn't play at User.cmd is reason I was thinking of delete file after play, then at runoncex start again new, I been experimenting play mp3's at different points with my app, still a work in progress...
  17. kC_ Prompt for Password is included in above. I did not search this whole thing since you said you did but heres the other... disable "on resume display welcome screen" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "ScreenSaverIsSecure"="0" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "NoAutoReturnToWelcome"="1"
  18. kC_ Turning off the monitor is included in these settings, set them the way you want then export...
  19. The reason I was suggesting remove the ini is 'INITool1.GetFromINI' I think thats a separate exe isn't it?
  20. Ok I wasn't telling you how to do it just suggesting ideas. But thats possible also to strip file path returning only name. Or even load the dir to a File1 filter out .exe Still waiting to try your next version EDIT: One other idea maybe, After file is played delete it from dir? Then If I used it at different place it would start next
  21. Nice Start After awhile on my app here's what I have now. I see room for improvement in your's as well as mine but we all work to that end. XP Pro or Home Unattended CD Creator? EDIT: Removed pic cause I don't want to take away from your post.
  22. mrx Or turn it off completely windows image viewer Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\Image\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\ShellImagePreview] @=- This is ON Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\Image\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\ShellImagePreview] @="{e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}" NOTE: May require Reboot for effect... EDIT: This worked pre-SP2 and I found it don't completely now. After above you have to associate an image with something like Irfanview. You still have the Preview in right click but it's not default. Personally I have found numerous things that used to Pre-SP2 that now don't work the same.
  23. Wouldn't just parsing the dir and read in all files be simpler than an ini? That way no configuration just run it.
  24. Uhh, no I said pskill www.sysinternals.com Just copy PsKill onto your executable path, and type pskill with command-line options defined below. PsKill works on NT 3.51, NT 4.0, Win2K and Windows XP. EDIT: Ok I found info on tskill. Me thinks I'll stick to sysinternals stuff, they tend to be more advanced. Also get mixed info on that tskill whether it works 100% or not.
