Just place it in "$OEM$\$1\" folder on your CD.

@Diabolical82 Well, thanks for those words of advice, but please don't post words which might dis-courage anybody from posting solutions. Its always nice to see ideas coming up - and the ideas which didn't work at first will be worked upon by the others to make it work. Oh well, that's what a community sharing knowledge is all about - a breeding ground for new ideas, and encouragement from others.

Automating IE6SP1 install for W2K through RIS
prathapml replied to Got KarmA?'s topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Yup! you got it pretty well setup, I suppose. I'd suggest you run the IE6SP1 setup through cmdlines.txt or GUIrunOnce. The reason is that, the fiddling with files in the I386 directory is kept to a minimum in that way, and svcpack is a _bit_ more complicated than the other two methods as well. Other than that, I also think you ought to use the "/Q:A /R:N" switch for both, the IE-setup, as well as the update. The reason is that, these switches will ENSURE that it is totally silent. Do post back on whether it all goes well. -
I don't see what you are expecting here. Are you asking a question, or giving a suggestion, or something else? More probably, this looks like a topic deliberately posted to attract spamming by everybody, and spark a heated discussion. If the viewers don't have something constructive to say, please just give this thread a pass.

Hey dudes, Check out http://www.invisiontsl.com/list/. That's a list of the top-rated forum sites, which run on IPB software. MSFN is listed there at a pretty high position - and as the top-most tech site (all the others there are tilted more towards things not-tech). YAY!!! And what gets filtered out here as <<spam>> doesn't even feature there until almost the bottom.

Hey, we don't want angry posts or flaming here, please. (nor replies to this post that you are NOT flaming) Please cast any controversial comments aside, and just look at the good side - we'd like to have the forums be enjoyable for as many people as possible.

Maybe there was a user error in the hex-editing of the boot-sector. Well, try re-doing it again, and it should work. Following the guide to-the-letter has never given any problems. Do post back about how it goes.
-
I'd suspect the boot-sector is missing or corrupted in some way - try re-doing those steps again (the ones about CDshell).

Hey, Just a quick heads-up: Once SP2 is rolled out to online all those who matter (customers), it will be available free-of-charge on CD, you can place the order here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...us/default.mspx The ordering facility will start sometime in September, so don't complain it hasn't started yet!

Hi obs0lete - you did well in doing so! Join our group (of thousands ).

Well, the northwood core (Pentium4) is old today - that was the core used before hyper-threading and prescotts made an appearance. The one MCT is going to get is based on a Prescott core - happy over-heating!!!!!! Go for an i875PE-chipset based MoBo - Asus or MSI. The rest of the config seems fine.
-
Well, after you said so, I checked it up - nopes, the EULA in the final of the service pack 2, does not say anything about being time-limited in any way. The pre-releases (betas, RCs), though, DID have a 180-day licence.
-
For seeing any switches, for administrative setups, and so on, you should normally NOT have that app installed. Un-install nero and retry - might help.
-
Well, no IE used by me. So it doesn't bother me. And in networked environments, that caution screen is good. And yes, no solution found to this since the days of SP2-RC2. I would hazard a guess that the "Registry Tweaks...." thread is where this annoyance will be shown the door.
-
sheesh..... Please see the first-post for that.
-
@bilko See swedenxp's post - that's what the output of "setup.exe /?" is supposed to look like. @adiel Then that means that it can't show its switches - not all installer packages like to show switches.

Hotfixes For Windows XP Professional SP1
prathapml replied to Aaron's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Since IE6 SP2 doesn't actually need that update, yes then you could consider that patch as having been included with SP2. -
Office Shrinker [reduce source of o2k3/xp/2k]
prathapml replied to buckeyeXP's topic in Microsoft Office
Again...... please read the entire thread properly - the solution to your "excessive shrinking" is right there. Or re-do the shrinking. What is happening to you (630 MB to 7 MB), is NOT normal. -
Again...... cheer up dude! You mis-understood the thread - see my previous post above.
-
The best way to know, is to change to the appropriate directory, and then run "setup.exe /?". That will list all available switches with description.
-
180 days, huh? eval. copy.... Nopes, I doubt that one has any problems with being able to slip-stream. The problem must be somewhere else....... In any case, this may not exactly be nLite related - that you are using nLite to slip-stream is purely incidental.

.net (netfx) install the way mce and tabletpc do
prathapml replied to bilemke's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Apply any of the 2 methods above, THEN reduce source using gosh method. Remember that reducing source is the last step to be done before finalising your CD - you can't add/remove anything easily after that. -
Yup! what you want is quite simple to do. Nothing special is required. Pick-up a Win98 CD, and install the win98 resource-kit. There, you get an INF changer of some sort ('tis been a long time since I did it), which you can use to point the location of extra driver folders to search on CD during setup (in addition to the existing drivers) hardware detection. That tool is wizard-based - it will lead you step-by-step through the process, and has help too.
-
Please don't ask for warez, nor for help about it - we don't need this useful thread to be closed for moderation.....@Aaron Thanks for idea - I'll try it and post back whether it works.

True. Almost no speed increases. Its only when SATA 2x comes in, that the real party will get going. Until then, I'm happy with SATA.
