  1. I have a system-restore disabled XPSP2 here, and .NET framework+SP1 installs fine. The hold-up for you is somewhere else then. BTW, I gotta tell you - cool theme there, care to post a link to where you downloaded it from?
  2. A quick status update on this tweak: It seems that it has been compiled, and all further discussion at this thread: Copy2 * Move2 Fixed.
  3. @BrokenHope Is there a good reason why you'd cross-post the same thing in 2 different threads? You have a post similar to above here - the old thread. And its been answered too, in the old thread. Desist from such actions - it becomes difficult to keep track of topics.
  4. Oh, okay - but that statement sounds a bit off-topic in this thread. I tried it just now to confirm it for you! regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\system32\ContextMenuExt.dllIt does work, and after un-registering it the above way, the "Copy To" or "Move To" options don't appear in the right-click menu in explorer anymore.
  5. Wow, there's more: Windows XP Related Communities OK, msfn is recognised by microsoft, but its not making one as happy as possible when they look at only one angle and put that as a comment. Surely there's lots more here than just what's quoted above? Isn't it?
  6. "Play All" ? I don't see that option becoming available when I use this DLL. And how to un-register this one? The standard way - "regsvr32 /U path-to-DLL"
  7. Right. Maybe some spy-ware getting in the way of start-up sequence. And also, since its able to come to the login screen fine, that rules out any boot-up related problems. One thing to check could be to get to the classic-login (not the welcome screen) and login. Or, connect that HD elsewhere and clear out the #username#\StartMenu\Startup folder.
  8. hmm.... If people want to be generous, that's no problem at all! Just use the "print this topic" function, press F3 to search for the member-name, to see whether they've been given an invite or not. Its better that we don't have multiple threads running, all of them giving out invites. This thread isn't all THAT big anyway....
  9. True about that - 512 MB of RAM would be ideal for XP (no matter whether SP2 or no SP2). But the problem is with the vast majority of older machines, and home-PCs of senior citizens - who can't/won't keep up with the best hardware available. They just buy components that are relatively good for the time, put down some money on it, and then settle down, expecting it to serve them well ever afterwards.
  10. We're jumping the gun by a bit here.... Firefox 1.0 is still some distance away. The link above is for the nightly build of an RC (testing) build of a beta build (0.10). And zero-point-ten is still not the same as one-point-zero. The mozilla roadmap shows 0.11 and 0.12 as well. So, even the v0.10 isn't out yet - The big one-oh is some way to go yet. This is not a put-down for fans - just a heads-up, so that people won't take this build and then declare that v1.0 is not good. By all means test this build, but remember its not final.
  11. To run WinXP in an "okay"ish state, you need atleast 64 MB of RAM. And SP2 release does not change that. Of course, you do know that the more (RAM) you have above the minimum requirement, the better it is. WinXP (whether with or without SP2) will run decently on 256 MB of memory.
  12. Ha ha... Check the inbox of e-mail address that you PM'ed. Your prize has been sent! Enjoy!
  13. Yup! Welcome into MSFN forums bibio. Everybody IS patient and friendly here.
  14. hi lent, welcome here. You should now PM your e-mail address to me or someone else who has announced that they have invites to give away, after asking in the thread that you want one. @mazin It is permanent. We are just one of the earlier users, sticking around since the time of testing, is all it means.
  15. yoohoo! Here's the demand, home AND pro screens - host 'em both, and give us links! (note: RAR-compressing might reduce the size a great deal, especially if both are in the same archive)
  16. Yes. And its nice to not need to re-create my partition just to format it. You need all 3 (as you asked), in the winnt.sif: [Data] AutoPartition=0 [Unattended] Repartition=No FileSystem=* You'll now get the partitioning work like before, you'll get the option to FORMAT! YAYYY!!!!!!
  17. huh? while there's no shortage of people who'd be willing to invite you without wanting anything in return, I suggest you edit your post above to remove the second line. Risqueness on a tech-forum, sheesh, feels awkward!!!!!!!! Simply not the impression we want to give to visitors.
  18. @Jay I haven't personally used it. But, all indications point to it being a good linux distribution. That thing seems to be good. And **** good if you consider that MS thought it worthwhile to sue them (that's not the main topic here, but I mean, they thought it was so good that they had to prevent it getting further ahead on the plank of their own name). Describing it and the features on my part, would be worthless since they got a good site with all the content/reviews/docu there. I don't use commercial distributions of linux, since that detracts from the reason I like it for, in the first place. Linspire (previously known as Lindows) supposedly takes the good factors in other distros of linux (like redhat, mandrake, debian, etc.) and adds in goodies to make it able to run *A FEW* windows apps. Its interface is friendly to windows converts as well. You'd be up and running, and get familiar with it in no time at all.
  19. I'd say SP2 is great. Although that already-huge list of poll options needs the option of "good" (for those who think its just about OK/good). SP2 breathes some fresh air into XP, and gives it a acceptable minimum functionality/security/stability. Surely, MS didn't waste 2 years of delayed releases to make a bad service pack! And all those new features..... Also, I normally just move on to some other app to replace any app that won't work properly on SP2. In most cases there's a patch or upgrade available. If something doesn't work on XPSP2, it means that the app-maker is at fault (yes, some MS-apps have compatibility problems with SP2 as well, and they admit they were at fault and have newer updates/upgrades). If it won't run on XPSP2, then I know that it doesn't deserve me using it, not that MS was bad in making SP2 incompatible with it. So, in conclusion, yeah: All apps work fine for me, and its good.
  20. Hmm.... Actually, it doesn't seem to work that way. I know, since I myself was using those all along, and had resigned to the fact that I couldn't format a partition from unattended setup. You will see that if you choose to install onto an existing windows (FAT32/NTFS) partition, you aren't offered the option to format it. So you end up having the old files onboard, and threfore not a clean install. You HAVE to delete and re-create the partition to get the option to format using the winnt.sif settings you have mentioned above. But adding the new settings to what I already have (which you have mentioned in post above) do help in fulfilling what was needed all along: [Unattended] FileSystem = *
  21. Well, might have to change the source code for that, that's all.BTW, it might take a while to look thru it properly and remove all references and dependencies on that word. Also, we have to recognize that a developer who's giving his work free to the world, atleast wants recognition. @evilvoice That's good, didn't see your post before posting...
  22. Right about that actually - there's no real "better", it simply depends on the point-in-time and price-level you're looking at. Remember, this thread is just about personal preferences and opinions, you gotta know what's best for you. Oh well... competition looks good, and that's ultimately what is beneficial, no matter which one holds "best" tag at any point of time.
  23. yeah. The invite-getting seems to be totally random - no scientific basis seems to be behind it (or atleast we're trying to figure out what that basis is). BTW, there already was a Gmail thread, and this question was discussed there. You could have continued this question there...
  24. Well, if you step back a bit and see...... Each new generation of cards is better. So now that the FX6800 series is out, nVidia rules again. ATi occasionally keeps coming up with flashes in the pan, but not continuous good support like nVidia, nor the volumes of production. 3rd party OEM gfx cards are another big draw with nV - bcos of that, you get different price-points to choose from. ATi is not nearly that wide in market coverage and pieces available. I need to wait more to get a top-end ATi, as compared to nV, since the only people supplying ATi-chipset based cards are themselves (and a VERY small number of others now, like gigabyte, Asus). And innovation, and listening to the market, nVidia is better. nV has been around for a longer time, and has a good track record too (and fact is all the poison being spread against them has not that much importance - people normally hate the dominant player and side with the underling, no matter what the game). ATi is improving on this, but nV's driver support is legendary for platform compatibility and stability. Especially, if you're on linux for much of the time, like me. While this is still not a settled debate (and will never be, as long as the two survive), nVidia to me still looks the better of the lot.
  25. The norton 2004/2005 series stores not much of activation info in the registry. Its in the "ProgramFiles" folder as a file somewhere. Try searching for the info - mazin has a thread about how to save and restore the activation.
