  1. jwt, if the icons (therefore access to these programs) is all you're bothered about, you can do a simpler thing: 1. Confirm that you have SP1 or SP2 for Windows XP installed on your system. 2. Go to "Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs" and choose "Set program access and defaults" from left pane. 3. Choose "Custom" and remove the "tick-mark" from "Enable access to this program" for IE, OE and WMP. Hoping this helps....
  2. Maybe the correct section... 'Coz 3D Mark is normally a gamer's benchmark... Anyways, for those who want to know how to use 3D Mark 2003 specs online, there's this thread stickied in the "Software Hangout" - HOW? As for my scores, 3D Mark 2005 refuses to even run on my desktop.
  3. fixed. *topic title "ARRG.. Help Please..." was changed
  4. No! You don't need to do anything. Just run RyanVM's EXE downloaded from above! It will do everything needed.
  5. XtremeMaC, yes. This is how you need to install it so that opera picks up the JVM - just install the JVM first, then opera - opera will automatically detect and tie itself into the JVM upon first-run. RyanVM, yes the netscape-related files/java-plugin are what opera uses as well. BTW, though this new version is good news, it beats me where to get the J2RE 1.5 from! Their home-page still lists the latest Java run-times as 1.4.2-05. And the J2SE is probably what gave this run-time.... but yeah, I'd wait till it (JVM 1.5) gets officially announced!
  6. More details would be in order, ain't it? A thread with nothing but just a link, is effectively no better than spamming! Trial! That immediately puts me off trying it!
  7. Correct paul. You can add all the servers that annoy you (for the purposes said above), and then life on the net is far smoother. I do know, for one... that my HOSTS file is 230 KB. If its too much work for anyone to dig out what sites COULD possibly be problematic, just do this: 1. Add the sites YOU know to be a nuisance. 2. Install KaZaA Lite Revolution client v2.5.5 to get its updated list of HOSTS. Or... to make it even easier, just add your additions to the HOSTS (obtained by the bad-site blocker of KaZaA lite mentioned above) attached here. Using this file is simple and blissful indeed. hosts.zip
  8. Post-install, there's no variable like that. But during unattended setup, the "$OEM$\$Docs" folder is used for that purpose - a direct reference to "documents and settings" path whatever the path is (even if it is set by you to "D:\UserDocs"). This is not related to registry, but still its mentioned here if someone wants to know.
  9. Stinger, even if you took away his burner, its simple enough for him to take the CD and make an ISO copy onto HD, and then take the HD when you aren't in the office and burn the ISO to CD. Moreover, you did expend a TREMENDOUS amount of time and effort on your uA CD - too precious to have it freely circulating, and also think about your leaked product key! But yes, no one's too wicked for a 2nd chance. Nothing personal here, just thought I'd put in my 2c. Astalavista, there's ways to distort the file-system CD, such that copying from it (whether as files, or with ASPI-access) gives meaningless results, but still work fine when you USE it. But then, you need to have your source files elsewhere - you can't write your CD, then use that CD as the starting point to again make a new version of your uA CD - that's a scary thought if your trusted HD crashed one fine day! Nero offers a copy-protection, good enough to deter most of the casual copying, try that. The docu that comes with nero gives more details. Hoping this helps...
  10. The best way to stop such pop-ups is to add them to your block list in the HOSTS file. 0.0.0.0 adserver.sharewareonline.com Add that line at the bottom of your HOSTS file, and that entire server is blocked. No pages at all can come from it anymore! You can add anymore annoying server addresses (pop-ups, advertising servers, annoying porn sites) to the HOSTS file to block out those sites COMPLETELY! Where is your HOSTS file located? "c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" if on win2k/XP/2k3 "c:\WINDOWS\hosts" if on win95/98/ME. It is just a text-file. Open using notepad. Hoping this helps....
  11. Yahoo Messenger 6? You want to do this automatically in your unattended install? Or are you asking about an option to disable it manually? *was posted in wrong section. Thread moved.
  12. @XtremeMaC No, he's not wanting to do it unattended, nor to put it on his unattended DVD! He just wants the new update merged into his normal Doom3 install. @todd Yes, it could be possible to merge the update into the game install files. Regardless of what installer it uses too! Try what SiMoNsAyS said above, if the Doom3 installer is an MSI based one. Sadly, I can't confirm anything about Doom3 since I don't have it! But yes, its not difficult - I managed to merge the UnrealTournament 2004 latest patch/update 3323 into the UT2k4 installer DVD a week ago.
  13. Good ones - comes in useful as a CD-jewel case inlay card!
  14. Its okay. You mean to ask that, since both CDs files in root have same names, they will get over-written by one or the other when you put them BOTH in your AIO's root, right? Its ok, it will get over-written, we need only one set of these files.
  15. Maybe you're using an old key in winnt.sif which is not accepted with SP2. You'd need to use your _real_ licensed key, or contact microsoft support about your blocked key.
  16. Hey, no bothers at all.... Its not that difficult. 1. Copy the downloaded "20040929-024-i32.exe" to the norton antivirus installation folder. 2. Extract it (using winrar/winzip) all files into one folder called "Defs". So that now, there is 41 files in that folder (9.xx MB). 3. Delete the "VirusDef" folder, and rename "Defs" (made above) as "VirusDef". That's all. I mean, you're just DIRECTLY replacing the previous folder with this new one. The "latest" folder within "VirusDef" can be deleted.
  17. BTW, there was already a topic about this in the multi-boot forum, by the same name too! *moving to multi-boot forum
  18. Also, you can use StyleXP - use the bmp of your choice, and once your NTOSKRNL.EXE is created, copy it away to be used any time you want. StyleXP is not needed after that.
  19. drew dude... XPlode as a new app? gotta be kidding... literally seems to have been around for ever! umm... and what did you vote for BTW? (curious to know how widely used is XPlode) I suppose you and me old-timers needed no docu because we were sitting right there beside it when it was being developed (seeing the new XML tags materialise one-by-one)..... heh, wraith ya remember my impatience for the next release, and our waiting for you to wake up? Seems like stories from a forgotten and by-gone fairy-world. *nostalgic*
  20. Hey ya MSFN regulars.... You know what you are doing, right? Want to know what OTHERS are doing? Interesting way to kill your time. See who's online - You can see who is browsing what topic, and whether they are posting/reading/PMing/etc. In fact, this link is there on the main-page itself. But dunno how many people use this feature. So I posted this here to test what the response is like. I dunno why, but since msfn is on IPB, I'm sort of fascinated with it. I detest vBulletin and phpBB. Why? The above feature (and much more) is not there. Moreover, once we shift to IPB 2.0, more interesting things come in. Like for example, you can channelise user accounts for search engine crawlers (from Admin Control Panel). Well, its **** **** funny to see GoogleBot browsing a certain topic, then seeing Personal Messages, then e-mailing topic, before moving on to the next topic (which usually only humans can do). You will see atleast 4 or 5 Google crawlers on this site at any point of time.
  21. yes that's right. The versioning DOES drive you up the the wall before you understand it. Think of it to be one of the down-sides about MS. esp, Go and sleep peacefully - DirectX 5 hasn't somehow made it to your XPSP2.
  22. Check out e-Max Hosting, they are very good - LINK to page 1. web-space hosting http://100webspace.com (currently down, they'll be back online soon) 2. Free domain provisioning (www.yoursitename.co.nr) http://www.freedomain.co.nr 3. Free Forums http://www.invisionfree.com (the BEST place to host your forum) http://www.proboards.com (not very good, but still better than others) 4. English dictionaries (the BEST) http://dictionary.com Merriam-Webster's dictionary online Try searching google for more sites. The above were just my favourite ones.
  23. Oh my god.... Please attach such a LARGE amount of text, the next time. Pasting such a lot of code right here makes the page difficult to read.
  24. What port does it require for communication with those servers? Windows Firewall has enough flexibility to open a specific port (let's say.. port number 800 for example) for the EXE you specify. You can get that configured from Control Panel >> Windows Firewall.
  25. You want to do it in the manual way, right? (I mean, this is not for unattended?) Well, go to any folder with 5 pictures (PICTURES ONLY) or more - such a folder now has preview enabled. Right-click, "View >> Tiles" (or "icons" instead of tiles... whatever). Then, right in that window, menu - "Tools >> Folder Options", and go to "View" tab. Click the "Apply to all folders" button. That's all. From now, images will preview only if you ask for it, not automatically.
