  1. Maybe it refers to signing of non-driver related files (like signed hotfixes/patches, etc.).
  2. "MRU-Blaster" What is the function of this utility? If you want to use it to clear out "Recent" documents, and MRU entries for WMP, etc. - you can directly use registry entries, instead of having to use a 3rd party software.
  3. Please see the rules, and not post contrary to it.
  4. I hear you have to run "modpe" on modified source files, to prevent setup from complaining about it. Does anyone have a link to download the tool, since I'm not able to find it right now...
  5. Powerhouse, the below is how to pre-set your WA5 skin auto: 1. Have your skin (K-Jofol_V5.wal, for example) in "%ProgramFiles%\Winamp\Skins" (as you already have). 2. Your Winamp.ini in the "%ProgramFiles%\Winamp" folder should have this: [Winamp] skin=K-Jofol_V5.wal That's all. You can have a winamp.ini pre-set to how you want it, being copied to that folder, or you can pre-config even more things, and have as much as is required alone in that file, being copied to that folder. Although, I don't know how the new change in WA 5.05 (which asks for confirmation of skin change) affect this method.
  6. No, this doesn't seem to be because of an updated live-update. I have this happening even if I use the default files, and default install.
  7. No, this thread is just for listing hotfixes updates to XPSP2. Let's rather keep this thread clean, and ask questions after making a new thread, and keep other chit-chat away from this official thread! If anybody else has questions to ask, please "make a new topic" to post it.
  8. Indeed this is very interesting. Is there some more documentation somewhere? Can you post your full winnt.sif (without key) so we can understand how this sections work? And do you do this as a "direct boot from CD" sort of winnt.sif, or does it require setup to be started from DOS/windows, or do you use this in conjunction with winbom.ini? (since winbom.ini offers this ability to partition).
  9. I doubt it will work, because they have some perl script which reads these extra sections. I know I'm happy with just chosing my partitioning manually, or using bartpe+dispart scripts. The perl script needs all this: So [_meta] is a section which that perl script gives, and not natively part of windows setup. More complication! But gotta admit, they have the right idea: LOL
  10. Atlas, this thread - NAV 2004 Pro by mazin, has all the info you want. Its quite comprehensive, and the method is pretty much the same for NAV2k5 as for NAV2k4.
  11. @jassalmithu Nothing is confirmed or "past development stage" as far as longhorn goes. And no, XP reloaded is not going to be different from XP by much - its just a marketing campaign, composed of what's said in first-post. There's going to be NO longhorn/longhorn-like contents. @RyanVM :hint: nLite :hint:
  12. well..... oofki wants to reduce size of the service pack itself, all the suggestions here are all talking about a merged XP+SP2 CD! @oofki There's not any substantial reduction possible, if you do delete any files after extracting from the service pack downloaded, you might run across unexpected errors. @jassalmithu The others here are talking about how to get more free space on Windows install CD. After install, those folders can be deleted of course.... but that doesn't help the cause. And yeah, nothing beats nLite for that purpose - check it out.
  13. Do you have any automated method to do all this?Because, you can guess what happens when you need to do the above for 75 machines as fast as possible! :hint: :hint: nLite!
  14. <---- PoNi, yes as Alanoll said, "/QB" on the SP1 updates should be enough to make the updates happen silently.
  15. Well, I use the below code in my winnt.sif to extract my drivers (no need of 7za.exe). The file below is an SFX archive created with 7-Zip: [GuiUnattended] DetachedProgram="%systemroot%\PnPdrvrs.exe" Arguments="-y /q /r:n"So now, this will get extracted right into the folder where its located. In other words, after the above command has run, the folder "C:\Windows\PnPdrvrs\" exists, with the extracted files from the archive.
  16. Hello DaHAM, The guides keep on getting updated all the time... every few weeks, don't miss them. Yup, hopefully we might be able to help you more as well, with more guides!
  17. @evilvoice, I agree with you that HKCU keys should be avoided if possible. But then... 1. Its too much of a time-consuming job to find alternatives. 2. Its easy to apply them at T-12, through cmdlines.txt And yes, you are welcome to post the reg tweaks you use (as an attachment, of course). I'd like to have a look at that too, though it'd be probably years before I could manage to synchronize your tweaks to mine to the one posted in first-post, lol. I doubt the lack of commenting/sorting would scare off the visitors to this thread - in most cases, the tweaks are themselves pretty self-explanatory.
  18. reverend, you're right there. And don't take the words used for vB too seriously, its just a word used there, that's all. And yup, hi to you. I see you're here after a long time. So TZ is more enjoyable then? Oh well... Welcome back.
  19. Yes, its possible. Example code from winnt.sif: [Components] complusnetwork=on aspnet=on terminalserver=on tswebclient=on iis_asp=off iis_common=on iis_ftp=on iis_inetmgr=on iis_internetdataconnector=on iis_nntp=on iis_serversideincludes=on iis_smtp=on iis_webdav=on iis_www=on iis_www_parent=onSet whatever components you need to on, and whatever you don't need to off. Source : Windows Server 2003 Optional Components That page will give more details. Hoping this helps...
  20. Where's the the screenshots?
  21. Merging the other updates/patches is simple too. In that sense, NAV is very cool. But we have already discussed this before, please search the forum. But for your sake: 1. Go to this page - http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/files/lu/lu.html 2. Download "lusetup.exe" (i.e., the latest version of LiveUpdate, which you normally invariably need to update after install if NAV). 3. In your NAV2k3 install folder, go to "\Support\Lupdate\" folder. 4. Replace the old lusetup.exe in that folder with the new one you just downloaded. 5. That's all! You have now merged the latest LiveUpdate into install-source (and so don't need to update it after install). Same case with LiveReg, SEVINST, and so on..... Updating is easy, both as an administrator who's installing it, as well as a user. The other anti-viruses don't have this much of flexibility and ease. For more details on updating, etc., mazin has a wonderful guide in this thread - Norton AntiVirus Professional 2004 silent , All-In-One!. Yes, yes... its meant for NAV2k4, but it can just as well be adapted to NAV2k3 - the main difference being NAV2k3 doesn't need activation. So just skip reading about activation, and read all other posts in that thread. You'll (hopefully) get what you want.
  22. hey jwt, for new images, do you use RIS or unattended install in some way? If so, put the below code section in your winnt.sif (if from CD) or unattend.txt (if from network install): [Components] IEAccess=off OEAccess=off WMPOCM=offIts a far simpler way, so that it gets done automatically without you needing to do anything.
  23. All corrections/suggestions/additions upto this point taken. ANNOUNCEMENT: Attachment in first post updated, with many new tweaks. Lots of Interesting ones now. Bumped up version of the new tweaks file to v1.5. Enjoy! PHEW!!! Enjoy the fruits of 7 hours of labour over this. Heck, it has taken so long to make this, that it will be an injustice to not have a look at the new tweaks/settings in this file. (Of course, those who been around over here since a long time already know the tweaks in it, but its nice to have it all in one place). Make use of it judiciously. As always, use only the tweaks which you can understand what it does. Directly merging the new .REG file, and then complaining about modifications to the system that you don't know to reverse is not supported. The attachment is now a text file. You need to download the ZIP, extract the .TXT, and copy/paste only the tweaks you want into a different .REG file. Critically sensitive tweaks have been commented out - you need to remove the ";" to use it. Hoverhead, your contribution was added and sorted too, cheers for you too. If anybody has more tweaks to contribute, please use the attached-in-first-post-of-this-thread file as a base, and submit ONLY the differences/new-tweaks, so that its easy to merge them into the file for the next release version (lol, never heard of .REG releases, ha ha). And also, we only come across "problems with the tweak file" simply because those for whom the regtweaks were useful/successful don't post back - let's see if that changes this time with bouquets as well, instead of brickbats alone. *hopefully*
  24. In the list above, Windows Millennium. Reason : You can think of it as a bug-fixed Windows 98SE, with updated driver-support, updated system components and more features. Lastly, the removal of real-mode DOS does a lot to fight-back the plague of the DOS-based viruses and MBR viruses.
  25. mluca, the above download link, will only work for english versions. Are you on an Italian Windows 2003? if so, then .NET is already integrated into the OS. You need to find the update for .NET SP1 italian, or as the dialog-box said, use Windows Update.
