Why'd you want to "empty" your TIF cache.... Unattended install after a re-format.... certainly no files can be existing there.... If you do want to anyway set the size of the cache automatically through registry, you can find it here: comprehensive pre-configuration of Internet Explorer 6 options in XP's unAttended setup (its described there for setting cache to 2 MB - you need to set the size in KB in hex)

Okay, steps given below. Its not nearly as difficult as the number of steps below seem to suggest (carrying out all of the below will only take 5 minutes in total). If you don't want to make another post saying "doesn't work" following the below EXACTLY will help, lol. Here we go: Maxthon as default browser on Windows XP (SP1 or higher): 1. If you want to disable IEAccess, then have the necessary values for that in winnt.sif, otherwise go to next step. 2. Ensure that OEMPreinstall=yes in winnt.sif. 3. Since Maxthon is based off IE and will use its settings too, look-up this topic for IE configuration - IE6 pre-config. 4. Install Maxthon manually. 5. Configure it to how you like it (the settings, toolbars, etc.) 6. Just before you close it, set it to ask "Do you want to make Maxthon your default Browser" (from "Options >> Startup" menu) - Since that is what will set the protocols to Maxthon after asking you, upon first-run. 7. Copy away Maxthon's installed folder (C:\Program Files\Maxthon) to elsewhere to have a safe copy. 8. Now put that folder onto your unattended CD - "\$OEM$\$Progs\Maxthon\" folder should now exist. 9. Explanation - The above way, during windows setup, you have it being copied automatically to "%ProgramFiles%\Maxthon" 10. Put the short-cut to Maxthon too - make a shortcut to it on the desktop, and put it as - "\$OEM$\$Docs\Default User\Start Menu\Programs\Maxthon.lnk" 11. Now, the registry entries in next steps. Put these in any of your existing .REG files, which are applied at T-12 (through cmdlines.txt). 12. Of course, remember that since its more complex to make registry entries path-independant, all the paths below are absolute paths (its more difficult to use system variables like %ProgramFiles% in .REG files). So change the paths according to your installed folders. 13. Self-explanatory registry entry ; remember Maxthon setup folder [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Maxthon] "Folder"="C:\\Program Files\\Maxthon" 14. Self-explanatory again: ;Make Maxthon the default browser from Start Menu ;Set the Start Menu sticky apps [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\StartMenuInternet] @="Maxthon" ; Give details for the Internet Browser (as mentioned above) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Maxthon] "LocalizedString"="Maxthon Web Browser" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Maxthon\shell\open\command] @="C:\\Program Files\\Maxthon\\Maxthon.exe" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Maxthon] @="C:\\Program Files\\Maxthon\\Maxthon.exe" "Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Maxthon"15. That's all. Make your CD and it should work. No IE, only Maxthon. Enjoy! Note that after your first install of Maxthon once, there's no need anymore to use the original installer in which it came. If there's any errors in the above (well, other than the bad points relating to absolute paths), do post and tell. Hoping this helps....

Unattended installation with "normal" XP PRO/Home
prathapml replied to Luk4S's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@solohelp If that's what you need, then you might like to have a look at this guide and customize to your requirement. You can have all 4 CDs on 1 CD. http://flyakite.msfnhosting.com -
Ha ha... That link was referring to "search the fine web" for link to download.Or do you mean, you can't have a downloadable updates/plug-in option with NSIS? Here's a real link again - NSIS. Enjoy! That is possible with the other installers mentioned above too.BTW, obscuring your source/installer is NOT a good thing - we'd be far happier to ACTUALLY make something on our own and claim credit for it - than pass off something else as our own. We see enough of that happening with open-source apps being modified and re-compiled, and then being fobbed off as being made by some greedy person - giving NO credit to the thousands of developers globally who collaborated over it. All of us here have our own skills, and can earn enough with it - we don't need to pick on someone else's hard work. We know how much we struggle with our own efforts, and value others' efforts as well. ---oh well, forget it - just a small bit of positive thought there, that's all--- Take it easy

Well, functionally the eval and retail copies are the same..... Did you try checking whether you did something different when using the eval, that you did not with the retail copy.
-
ha ha... Good analogy there:

nice and quick summarisation rich. Welcome to MSFN forums. All the best regarding your WinPE! You'd find that info here, plenty of it.

Trying to save disk size.
prathapml replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I just read somewhere that the spra* and sprb* files were junk, and recommended their deletion if space was a desperate need, that's all. Tell us too, when you find out its purpose, lol.Its only because of that reason (that I don't know what those files do) that I'm keeping it. And what about the sprb* files? -
Yes, you can. In fact, that's the right way to go about it.If I wanted to configure the sounds in mIRC.ini, I'd just leave behind those configured lines - and delete the rest. Default settings (like always) will be used for whatever lines you deleted (in other words, whatever settings was left unconfigured due to deleting will revert to defaults). Enjoy!

When to create the useraccounts
prathapml replied to eagle00789's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@Tsunami Right. @mockranger No you're not wrong. But then, user accounts are usually desired to be created during setup or shortly after - so oobeinfo.ini is an easier and simple solution for users creation. Also, not too many people use SysPrep. -
Yes, we know that... But that day is not very far off. What with Doom3 and HL2 and all.... And 64-bit PCs ship with plenty of RAM too. So we'd rather have all of the kernels modified than suddenly be surprised by discrepancies that happen when we have 1 out of 2 modules of 4 GB RAM taken out for testing, lol.

Nope.Never seen flaming here since the past year or so that I've been around - its all along been an informed, dis-passionate analysis of things. Discussions haven't ever gone so far as to flame. @DJ67, Thanx for your take on this - it is appreciated that you chipped in with your view-point as well.

Okay then.... Let's forget the FOR loops and do it the normal way: REG ADD %KEY%\050 /v 2 /d "\"%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe\" -install-global-extension %DVDROM%\Applications\Firefox\xpi\file1-name.xpi" /f REG ADD %KEY%\050 /v 3 /d "\"%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe\" -install-global-extension %DVDROM%\Applications\Firefox\xpi\file2-name.xpi" /f REG ADD %KEY%\050 /v 4 /d "\"%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe\" -install-global-extension %DVDROM%\Applications\Firefox\xpi\file3-name.xpi" /f REG ADD %KEY%\050 /v 5 /d "\"%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe\" -install-global-extension %DVDROM%\Applications\Firefox\xpi\file4-name.xpi" /fIt will still be fast enough. Just that it will take a few seconds more to type it in for all of the plug-ins. (and note that in the above example, the .XPI's should be renamed if they have spaces in the filename)

Full Format possible from WinNT.sif?
prathapml replied to bob3d's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
If you need more control over your partitioning steps of setup, you can use the winPE/bartPE method, in conjunction with a diskpart script. More details can be found in the WinPE section of this forum. -
Topic was named - "Today is not my day!" *sigh* Please see the forum's rules There's more literature too (if needed), on using appropriate titles - http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questi...html#bespecific *topic re-named

Trying to save disk size.
prathapml replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
1. http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/space_saving_tips.htm - that you've already been using that info. The folders mentioned there are safe to delete. 2. Using nLite to merge drivers.cab and SP2.cab should free up some more space - you've done that too, maybe. 3. About the files to delete in I386, the ones you mention above, I'd not think them worth deleting. In fact, deleting no files is a good idea. Because deleting any specific files manually, will mean that you also need to delete references to the file from dosnet.inf and txtsetup.sif - and who knows what entries they have in the registry hives..... But if you do insist, here's one set of files that people say is safe to delete - the spra*.dl_ and sprb*.dl_ set of files. That should slim your I386 folder by 57 files (4.72 MB) - which is very small reward for all the work you have to do to safely sweep them out. Hoping this helps.... -
which folders can I safely delete from i386?
prathapml replied to Professor Frink's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
true. And that suits the purpose perfectly, when the intention is to boot from CD and install. And this page tells you what folders can safely be deleted - http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/space_saving_tips.htm. -
multi-post - similarYAY!!!!! I said it, lol. OK, anyways... now to take a look at the topic at hand.... The error message itself pretty much seems to say the cause! Have you checked whether it is NOT so?Sometimes, just re-making the CD and burning the ISO to good media helps. Are there any other files you modified? did you use nLite? EDIT: And isn't this related to WinPE? *moving thread

Please refrain from such sentences. Reading this page might be a good idea - http://homepages.tesco.net/~J.deBoynePolla...no-answers.html

@ajs No, you need to have those files (cd-IDENTs) in the root of the CD, AND in the folder of your OS. If you follow this guide - flyakite.msfnhosting.com - EXACTLY, to the letter, you'll have a nice multi-boot CD (or DVD) ready. If you were ALREADY following that guide, then here's more info: Your IDENTS have to be present in your BOOT folder (for example - "CD-root\PRO1\") as well as your install source (for example - "CD-root\SETUP\PRO1\"). You might probably be missing a few idents, for YOUR specific version of XP and service-pack. Go to this page to get ALL of the XP-CD idents - [FAQ] nLite (yes, it says title of topic is related to nLite, but that doesn't matter, just use that thread to get the IDENT files). Hoping this helps.... @jito My multi-boot has been working fine since many months. I'm hoping that odd thing on your multi-boot CD went away - if it its still there, do post with more details, and we can set about fixing it. (the text above this line tells a few things which you could check on too). Waiting for your reply.

There were many posts recently, asking about how to backup Outlook Express (or Outlook) settings/profiles/mails, and then restore it (after a re-format), in a simple manner. Well, the makers of TweakXP Pro, have made this tool (not for unattended usage though): http://www.totalidea.com/frameset-outsource.htm Looks pretty good. Hoping this helps...
-
@jdoe Thanks for those things setting it right. Let's hope it works for diabolical. PHEW!!!! any more corrections? lol Now here's another... you need to have commands run through the CMD interpreter in quotes as well, like: CMD.exe /C "whatever command /blah-blah"So, after YET another correction, the code stands at: REG ADD %KEY%\050 /v 2 /d "CMD.EXE /C \"FOR %I IN (*.xpi) DO \"%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe\" -install-global-extension \"%DVDROM%\Applications\Firefox\xpi\%I\"\"" /f diabolical, we're waiting to hear whether this was successful or not.

I see "HTML Help Workshop 1.3" in my place, and that's what I use for CHMs. Looks like an MS' own utility, and came with FAR HTML Help creator - and was originally part of re-distributables in Visual Studio '97. aaaaa.... something, whatever. Its 3 MB or so - looks like freeware, and pretty good. You can try searching for it, and then try fiddling with it, to see if it helps you in doing what you want. (since its freeware, the file can be direct transferred over IM to you, if you want ).

3 users and importing old docs
prathapml replied to jambocool's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Hmm.... Its _sort of_ clear what you mean. But still, putting what you want into more words would be useful. And yes, the Username.001 sort of folders get created if you have the folders copied over too early. If its just the empty "MyMusic/MyPics/MyMovies" folders that you want to create, then why be in a hurry? Let it get created when you log-in.... And if you keep re-installing, and need to have files off that folder, and restored after install, then do what most people do - keep your files on your D:\ drive or something. That way, this bother will not be needed. But still, if you need some help, please take the time to put it in words. http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#explicit If you are not interested over spending time to get what you want done, nor will anybody have time to respond. Take it easy. -
NSIS 2.0 - freeware, and the same one winamp uses. link But when an MSI-based installer needs to be created, InstallShield X Premier (google for home-page) - its commercial.
