  1. Its possible that you have some regtweak being applied which does that. Check that you can explain what each of your regtweaks is for - if something is not understandable, then that regtweak is not for you.
  2. If you are connected to network on which hostile hackers might be a part of (like the Internet), then open ports are a cause of worry.
  3. See if its placed in the correct place... $OEM$\$$\System32\OOBE\oobeinfo.ini
  4. @war59312 You don't need regkeys to set the theme, the winnt.sif line is enough. You aren't getting the theme applied properly because there might not have been enough time allotted for explorer to initialise (remember the "reboot in 60 seconds" recommendation in cleanup.cmd? that's needed).
  5. They are probably getting hammered like hell.... this news is very new as of now, and millions of fans all over the world would be scrambling to take a lookie-see.
  6. heh, controlling access to drives can be far easier. With XP home itself. Just remove access to the partition thru drive-letter, and mount it in some empty NTFS folder of your profile. So now you should only be able to access it from your own profile (other profiles can't access it). How to do it? click through to this post @wayland1985 Do post back, on what you finally did.
  7. Disk Director Suite 9, to be specific.
  8. If the system is starting to get bother-some, why not re-install in the normal way, then get down to all this work in peace. As far as that "cmd with 70% apps" and "runonceex.cmd creator" goes, I'd still say using someone else's creation will leave you clueless in the end about what to do (if you have problems with their creation). Most of us, did it on our own.... all these tools are recommended to be used once you are past what the guide recommends, till then stick to the guide itself.
  9. YAY!!! AoE3 is now officially being worked on, by the same studios that brought us the fascinationg AoE franchise. But I'd always thought that Age of Mythology was AoE3.... guess that's not so. the newsSee screenshots at 1600x1200
  10. This could have something to do with fast-shutdown feature. XP will wait for 20 secs to unmount partitions and kill running processes, after 20 secs forcibly reboot/shutdown. During the days of win98 and newer ACPI hardware, this used to be a major head-ache... It would be fixed thru msconfig.
  11. Now... forgot about that, didn't I Make that thrice as much visits to those then.
  12. No need for autoit scripts - that's unnecessary complication. Just simply include even your printers drivers with your other drivers (I hope the printer drivers are signed/WHQL-approved, only then it will work without hitches). If you have already included your printer drivers, then I'd conclude that its the lack of driver-signing which is causing your problem. Try disabling driver-signing checking from winnt.sif
  13. Yes, its perfectly safe, doing so will gain you about 4 MB or so. Just ensure that you are deleting files related to setup, and not any of the actual driver files. And how can you ensure that? Do a clean install of the OS. Then, in device manager you see all the detected hardware that have no drivers... Direct it to "reinstall driver" from the appropriate folder in your nForce driver folder. By doing the "search for driver" manually, you are basically doing the same thing that OEMpnpDriversPath method does. [now that the setup files are gone, see if during the above driver install, any files are reported as missing. If all the devices install fine when you select the INF, and no errors occur, you can conclude that you're perfectly set for OEMpnpDriversPath].
  14. Indeed. multi-posting might even lead to a ban. chuangfeng, there seems to be nothing wrong here.... What you describe is normal behaviour. You should always shut-down before removing/adding hard-disks (even if it is on USB). If you mean to say, its still coming up with an error even after a restart, then try going into safe-mode and disabling the Mass-Storage device from device manager. After that, it should be (hopefully) fine while running in normal mode without your Mass-Storage device.
  15. 1. First, carry out what the Universal Windows Slipstreaming and Bootable CD Guide says. (remember to use nLite there only for the sake of slip-streaming and bootable CD making, do not enable any other options, do not remove any XP components) 2. After above step, you now have an XPSP2 disk. I say don't bother about the updates.... there are hardly a couple of required updates since SP2, these can easily be downloaded later by Auto-Update. 3. Now for the unattended guide - http://unattended.msfn.org (answer-file, and silent app installs, and whatnot....). 4. Play around with above for a month or so, while also keeping an eye on this forum to see how others solve their problems. 5. Now you can start fiddling with nLite! 6. After nLite, when you feel restless again, take a look at the multi-boot DVD guide. 7. Beyond that, many advanced possibilites keep coming up, in the forum... So if you're still in the mood for it, you can try out those. Have fun!
  16. Having the "shield" icon not present there is no worry at all... Because the "shield" only appears there when it wants to annoy you (with a notification about one of those 3 things missing). So yeah, maybe you _could_ refer to it as "one or the other". If you do want to take a look at the cute Security Center anyway, you can get it from Control Panel >> Security Center
  17. check out http://100webspace.com
  18. In the beginner's section of the guide, have the page describe cdimageGUI instead of the command-line version. Its easier for newbies to see what's going on, and what's missed out. You can even pre-configure it with the recommended switches in an INI. Adding that to the downloads section would be good - though enabling hotlink protection for it would be a good idea (its 600 KB or so, don't want leechers downloading directly from our link).
  19. Yes, I've heard this too, sometimes. But I've never had that problem - I've always named it as "winnt.sif" in lower-case. Maybe as IncroyableHulk says, it has to do with the file-system. I took one look at the recommended switches for CDIMAGE.exe in the guide, and decided it looked too unpredictable. I finally ended up using the cdimageGUI tool. And then learnt the correct switches from it (luckily it worked perfectly the first time, and I never bothered to change from the commands that worked). Probably the guide can be updated to say, use the cdimageGUI - its far more newbie-proof.
  20. I have an nForce2 as well. 1. No, don't remove the native IDE drivers. In fact, don't remove any drivers that come with XP at all. That's your safest bet that everything will work fine. As for why not remove IDE drivers using nLite when you will integrate the nForce drivers... the reason is that nForce drivers are simply an add-on. It requires the base drivers to be present, beneath itself. 2. About the 5900XT, yes, it will get installed automatically. Just ensure you have followed what is set out here - http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/drivers.htm
  21. Well, the first suggestion of course would be to get a proper, un-modified Office2000 disk, and make an Admin-install point again from it. So after that, it will be at SP0 level. Then, merge SP3 directly into this source. That should most likely fix it.
  22. yes, that's right... but this topic doesn't fit into general discussion! I'll have this moved to "Websites and Boards" section. Then it will be fine. The only problem with this sort of a topic, would be that people visit twice as many warez boards as they do legit ones. And obviously, mentioning warez is not allowed! So you'll see that most boards that people might like, won't get posted!
  23. Have you double-checked your answer-file's extension? Many times we see people have named the file as winnt.sif.TXT That .txt extension would be the culprit.
  24. haha... I'll be confused and amused, if that's really true. Nope, there is almost always some way - especially the bigger software makers do pay enough attention to unattended needs. Well, if it does really turn out to be true, you still can use something else to make it install unattended - either VBscript, or Auto-IT scripts.
  25. Yes, its same for DVD as well. I suggest you change recorder (from menu, Recorder >> Choose Recorder >> Image Recorder). That way, you can still make an ISO, even with Nero (it will ask you where to save the image).
