  1. Let me just the reality. All computers can support X operating systems. If the computer in question should support a variant of that operating system, then it is just a matter of programming the ( drivers ) for that operating system. People are still using Win 3 today, as well, based on that idea.
  2. I was told that there is no such thing as a SSD. Instead of accessing the drive like a regular Hard Drive, it still has to go threw the entire drive like a CD or USB.
  3. The Stand, I rmemeber that series
  4. Well the problem was never the logic board. It was the password issue. It is a 10.3 model, therefore no Java 1.5 ( at the moment ). The only other problems is random. The computer turning off by itself, and blasting it's fans at high speed ( sounds like a plane on the runway ). Then is the random "No smoking sign boot screen". It is like watching windows, loading but without the repeating fractorial colors.
  5. I browsed, and was unable to find any topics on this. I am getting a G5 and it has problems. The current owner said, When I try to use the internet it freezes up" " It keeps asking me for a key something" "I searched and somebody said to push a reset button on the G5 machine, it sloved the problem temporarly" " It even freezes on booting sometimes ". The owner also brought a 4gig memory stick for the machine. The store people said it is for the G5 series. They tried the stick and it still had the same problem? The stick also worked for the Windows series. The machine is most likley a home edition of the G5??. It looks like a heater/toaster, I see them all the time, in the glass center at my college. I was told that it is so powerfull, that it uses a cooler to keep the insides from over heating. Even if the room they keep them in, is already ice pick cold. I believe there is a virus in the computer, that is preventing the computer from going on the internet, and booting. Since I have exprienced simular problems with Windows. The person beleives all they have to do is upgrade the OS to slove the problem. The person also beleives it might be a over-heating issue, and cooler is damaged. So what could be the problem. Since there is so many pages, describing the same thing. I beleive it freezes when something is not wrong as a failsafe. Since I see Apple machines freeze all the time. 1. Is it a virus? 2. Is the memory? 3. Is is the cooler? 4. Is the age of the computer? 5. will upgrading the OS ( which I really, really hate doing ) slove the problem? 6. If it is a hardware problem, how much would it cost to replace? From my exprience with Apples, it is common to see them, crash at some point during the day. Thank you for responding.
  6. I have been using a 566mhz, 128mbram, computer for the last ten years or so. Watch movies, play 3d games, browse without any trouble. for a long time I even watched DVD via the built in player, I ride in the subways, and once in a blue moon I find an executive type ( office employee ) using a labtop to chat on the internet. It is just pure chat, with no GUI on it at all. With the standard keyboard layout ( not the flat ones ). Sometimes a white background, and sometimes DOS black. The laptop sometimes looks like it is from 1995. So etc microcomputers on the internet is not a big deal. People has various uses. It is just about how far of a strain you are willing to go, avoiding upgrading. Like I am unable to run high end programs on my 566mhz celeron ( win98 ) without it running out of memory, or crashing. In the computer lab, at my college. Peoples computer crashes when people try programming a simple "Hello World" and these are 4000mhz machines. In the Graphics design department ( mac ). The computer crashes non-stop for just opening a file ( G4, G5II ). I am sure people using a vectoring program on an Amiga2000, would also crash from time to time. Personally I could careless about what google releases at all. If it was a rise of the Amigas, or some other computer type maybe I would care. There is so many differnt operating systems. All that is needed is the support for them. Did you know you could watch high qaulity movies on pre-Windows/Mac machines???
  7. I don't know if this is sloved but I am inputting my input. My USB-pen/stick/flash would do the exact same thing. It would not read on Windows XP, but instead give me a document folder instead. A folder that proclaimed "THE DRIVE IS UNREADABLE". However on my Win98 machine, it would read the drive. When I used it on a Imac machine (white) I was able to read the drive with no problems. Back on my 98 machine after running Scandisk ( when the drive appeared to have nothing ) it was able to recover disk data. I forget if I did or did not format the disk. Sometimes when I hook a hardrive to my PC. Especially one that I have not used for ages. It reports a misfire ( whatever) of space. I ran scandisk, and it recovered all my files but left the names with there shorten DOS counterparts. I could only assume it has something to do with the last computer you used the machine on. The end result is me getting/finding another USB drive lying around in the street. Since this would occur over and over again when I had to use the USB drive multiuple times, moving from machine to machine.
