  1. something funny in my experiences with windows, windows 95 and windows xp are both my favourite operating systems. iv never used windows 2003, so i dont know if its any better. everyone has their own opinions. i cant make you have one or the other. the best bet you have is install them both and see which you like the best. its the only way to really go with it. but, i like windows xp, im running it on both my computers (desktop : amd athlon XP 1800+ 512mb ddr ram, ati radeon 9200SE 80gb hdd, laptop : dell inspiron 7000 PII 366 224mb of ram) and they both run great. the laptop is a little slower but i can live with it because i need it for internet and IM and the odd document. id like to get windows server 2003 and check it out, because its the last os from MS i want to see for myself. so make the judgement for yourself and see what its all about also if they try to make the best all around os, it will get too complicated and become unstable then people will blast the developer. another thing that iv seen a lot of is people get an OS installed and they have one problem with a piece of software and they blame the OS developer. computers arent perfect, theyre programmed by humans. -brian

    IE7 B2

ah that makes sense, but i do hope they change the look of it, i dont like it. plus i dont like the tabbed browsing, i know i can turn it off. but knowing microsoft they may make it permanent. if that happens i will just stay with IE6 until it stops working like IE4 then ill switch to something else like firefox. -brian

    IE7 B2

did i read this right? this was on the Internet Explorer 7 Beta preview download page. Quote : Evaluation of Internet Explorer 7 should start now, but the software should not be used on production systems in mission-critical environments. Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview - released on March 20th - will only run on Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) systems, but will ultimately be available for Windows Vista, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, and Windows Server 2003. * If you're running a version of the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview, follow these uninstall steps prior to downloading the latest version: End Quote : does it say Ultimatly it will only be available on Vista, XP Pro X64 and Win 2003? so if i read this right it means it wont work on XP pro SP2 or XP Home? if so, isnt that pretty pathetic? XP has been the mainstream OS for the past few years and its already being phased out? anyone have any ideas? -brian PS : who likes the new layout and look of IE7?
  4. a big hand to beaker for all the work hes doing on this! the software worked perfectly on my XP laptop and desktop. -brian
  5. sooooo sorry i didnt respond, but it does work, and very well at that! thank you so much beaker! i dont know where youll want to go from here. but it does work very well! thank you again! -brian
  6. i sure will. ill get back to you when i try it. (my xp machine is up stairs >.< lol) -brian
  7. i liked windows me, ran good on my PII 366 dell. im using 98SE with the SP2 thingy and it runs just the same imo. but also, os's run differently on different computers. makes sense, dont it? -brian
  8. ooh really? you got duluxe cd workin in XP??? i want that lol. i tried to get it to work with the odbc thing but it kept failing i like the cd player. lemme know -brian
  9. i got the compaq one, thanks a lot robert. im still looking for the DELL one though, if anyone has it, please send lol thanks! -brian PS : dels, i have made my own, but they look horid. paint doesnt do a very good job at getting rid of white in the background, so ill need to use photo shop or some other photo program. but to be honest, i want it to be authentic. thanks though.
  10. well i got the sleekv2.exe thingy, and it did work. just now everytime i start the computer i get the welcome to windows 98 thing and my icons don't show up right now either. it doesnt seem all that fast either, so ill just run my restore cd and leave it alone. i reload waaaayyyy to much. lol, last week i reloaded everynight o.O -brian
  11. omg thank you so much, been looking for the professional one for a long time now, thanks lot!! -brian
  12. hey cool boot screen. i made one a while ago, but it just said (Mobile) underneath home/professional
  13. lol guess I shoulda looked, eh? thank you though -brian
  14. my advice, slipstream the service pack. nothing beats it, then you reload the comp with the slipstreamed cd. its much faster and more efficient. my dads 2ghz celeron runs like crap because the "IT" guy just installed SP2 over top. theres an IT guy at my dads work, and i seriously know more about stuff than he does. and hes the one with "university degree" o.O wtf? anyway, slipstream the cd. best thing to do. i was going to write more here, but my battery died half way through writing it >.< guess thatll tell me not to keep writing when the warning comes up. oh well, my fault. anyway, most people now adays havent a clue as to what an AV program is, and if the thing does find a virus, they clean it. and if the comp runs terribly, they dont care. its just a computer to them. people like us realize a computer is running terribly and reload it or clean it up. just common sense. anyway, back to the original post, SP1 is fine, but i highly recommend SP2. and its not true that an SP1 person will not be exploited over an SP2 person. it depends on what you do to a comp, i havent had an AV program on my computers in a long time, iv never had a virus. thats all it is. maybe 5 years now, never had one. -brian
  15. XP SP2 changed the boot screen and now it doesnt say the version of windows, there a way to change it to the original boot screen? i dont care, but itd be nice to show that i have pro at school lol. thanks -brian
  16. i was thinking of doing that, but i didnt know if it would work. ill try it. ill be able to restore the other one fairly easily anyway. thanks. -brian
  17. i tried that too, it greys out option 2 and 3. i need option 3, thats the one where i can swap the shell. only 1 and 4 arent greyed out and thats to install it fresh or delete the install folder for 98lite. thanks anyway, any other ideas? -brian ps: im running windows 98se on 32mb of ram, thats why i want to be able to do this. the windows 95 shell hardly even swaps on this computer when i had it. would be so happy if we could get this changed.
  18. i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to change the windows 98 shell to the faster, more efficient shell of windows 95. i had it working with 98lite, but i needed to reload the computer and didnt bother putting it back. so i tried 98lite from within windows this time, and it did not work, it failed. so i wanted to know of another way to do it, if anyone knew how that would be great. thanks -brian
  19. thanks so much nepali, and steviewonder that is a nice theme. i might consider gettin that lol, if i can find it. -brian
  20. nepali i love that background, where could i get it? lol anyway, heres my screeny. -brian ps : imageshack is slow, maybe itll speed up for me soon. a lot of pages seem slow today, dam rogers.
  21. i been looking for a windows 98 compaq boot logo for my compaq laptop. dont ask why, im weird this way lol. but i was wondering if anyone maybe had the boot logo that came on a compaq computer for windows 98, the logo.sys file on the root of the drive. if anyone has that, please respond. its the weekend and im bored so i thought maybe id ask for it, also if anyone has a dell one too, that would be cool to get. i have 98 on both a dell and a compaq laptop, so yeah, if anyone has one, leave a message then maybe you could email it to me. i am willing to give you a gmail invite if you want. thats really the only to repay you. thanks. -brian
  22. yah, ur right actually. it is all in the hardware. i never really thought of that just since all my stuff works, so i guess many peoples computers out there all run different os's better than others. my dads friend said that a 233 (pi or pii) was a great processor for windows 98, and he was right. my 233 (both my dell latitude cp and compaq armada 1700) ran 98 quite well. but 98 did kinda act funny on the latter. my dell i7K runs XP just as well as my desktop (amd athlon 1800 +) some things are noticable, but its decent for me. so, back to my original question, anything else? thanks for the replies everyone. -brian
  23. got the renamer program, worked. thanks. some files couldnt be renamed though, theyre in use. but one or two here and there dont bug me. but the entire windows directory was annoying.
