id rather use windows though because the wifi card im planning on using only works under windows. i can use my other one (dlink dwl-650+) but its a much nicer card and id rather keep it in the machine im going to be using all the time. i think i will install windows server 2000 on it, see how that works, and if i dont like it , ill put linux on it. question though, do you know if the dwl-650+ or smc 2635w wireless cards will work under DSL linux? if so, how do i get it working (keep in mind im a linux newb ) -

I hate WORD 2003 SP2, it the most untalented soft in THE WORLD
prx984 replied to vanya203's topic in Microsoft Office
i like wordpad that comes with windows. its small, efficient, and its fast. i dont need anything more, iv used office 2003, 2000, and XP and they're all the same to me. too much for what i need to do. if the teacher at school cant open my RTF file, then he can goto hell. i dont understand why he needed everything in bloody .DOC format anyway wordpad comes native with 98 if you install it, which theres no reason not to install it. im not saying its a bad piece of software, its just for what i do, its too bloated. i dont want a 200mb word processor on my laptop. id just as soon use the 200kb file that came with windows my spelling is fine anyway, so i dont need the spell check. i find that letting the computer do too much, can leave you with sentences like "if you do you work on you computer, you can get it done much faster" where as, it should be "if you do your work on you computer, you can get it done much faster" when i look things over, i notice errors like that almost right away and ill fix it. if i cant, then i call on a dictionary, or dictionary.com i say "quite a savings in space" -
i had a problem like that on my computer, but i didnt do too much video encoding, i was more so decoding dvd's to vcd's or AVI's for playback on my laptop for trips and stuff. all i did though was reload and it fixed the problem i was having. unfortuneatly a reload probably isnt the best solution just yet, just keep and eye on this topic and see if anyone else replies with a better suggestion. thats all i can say right now.

im dumb, and my dad has sorta started a little joke. whenever he gets home from work now, he asks me what OS i have on any of my computers. i reload them almost 2 or 3 times a day now cuz its summer lol. oh well, im just weird i suppose, but hey, its good practice for the future although i reload a lot, iv never had a virus or any crap like that, so im happy

i use outlook express for both my rogers and gmail email accounts. gmail is starting to irritate me though, outlook keeps pausing for a long time on "authorizing..." i dont want to use outlook 2003 or w/e because it takes so long to run and stuff, so ill just stick with outlook express, plus thunderbird isnt too speedy either. all in all, its POP3 for me. i just like how it manages messages, i dont like how gmail does it in the webmail thingy, its to hard to find the message i want. thats what i find anyway, i like the old style

well im 16 now, and i was 15 when she left. it can happen at any time.

im kinda getting back onto the 98 bandwaggon here. i just installed it back on my PII 366 laptop, and ill say, it runs decently. a little faster than XP. i just wish my network card didn't take so long to initialize. anyway, thats not the point lol. my point is, microsoft is moving on i guess and they figure that the lifespan of the 9x core is done. its just like what GM just did. they stopped production on the Astro van. and why? they say that "we aren't selling enough of them, therefore we can't justify making them anymore" and all it is... heres my opinion.... the vans are lasting too long. my dad's friend had a '91 astro van and it was MINT condition. not a spot of rust on it. the astro was first made in 1985 and they stopped production in 2005, so thats 20 years, but still, the vans are so popular, how can they say that they aren't selling enough? if you look on the road's here in north america, the astro or safari vans are almost every other vehicle on the road. all kinds of trade companies use them because theyre perfect for working out of. i myself will be gettin one shortly (hopefully ) all it comes down to, is they made something that was good, and they are trying to make money on something else now, but they can't because too many people want the older thing. newer isn't always better imo. so in a way, 98 has lasted too long for MS to justify support, therefore forcing everyone should to switch to something new. microsoft isn't selling any 98 cd's anymore so they can pretty much just say that its too old now, but in reality 98 is still a decent OS. it runs fast for what i do, and as long as it doesn't crash on me, ill be happy. im also starting to like the look of it again

I Want To Build A Computer Using Windows 98
prx984 replied to Atmosphere XG's topic in Windows 9x/ME
if i were in your position, i would just get a new case with enough room for all the hardware your going to need and remount everything in that. whats the point in buying newer hard ware if your only going to need roughly a 400 or so? thos requirements for those programs are more than likley based on a pentium class processor, and since your using a celeron 500 (which would more than likley run like a 350 - 400 pentium) your fine. plus you have more than enough ram to run those programs, so your fine. i wouldn't upgrade anything but the case. so, i think that all in all, your best bet is to do exactly that. take for instance, im using an old dell laptop, and i dont think im going to be upgrading anytime soon. i just use it for internet and IM'ing and its fine. good ol' pentium II 366 with 384mb of ram is all i need -
lol here in canada, or more specifically in the GTA we call it "your not gettin to work on time " well, thats what my dad calls it anyway, luckily he doesn't work downtown too often anymore. he just has to work in a place more than 4 hours away usually stupid hvac
