  1. Actually you have two keys. There should be one (1) on your OEM-CD and one (2) on the back of your computer (or on the bottom of your notebook). (1) This is the Key that is bound to the hardware and does not require activation. (2) This is a regular Windows-licence-key, that can be used with any other computer (within the MS EULA) and has to be activated like any other key (via internet or later via phone). And Yes ! You can strip out all the OEM-stuff (there are several tutorials, how to do that), to make your OEM-CD a "clean-XP". And a second yes ! It´s completely legal, as long as you use the regular key (the other won´t work anymore anyways) and you uninstall the DELL-XP. Agi
  2. First I have to apologize to Nuhi and the other admins/ mods to give HFSLIP-support in this forum ! Since it´s related (nlite after hfslipping), I hope You don´t mind. It´s even worse, because it´s a simple user-error ! @oao FDV states on his site (what do you think the "V" stands for ) clearly, what to do, if you integrate the SP4 manually, before using HFSLIP. It has to be in the HF-folder ! Just did a "quick and dirty". Nlite after HFslip still works, if you remember to keep some files and know what you´re doing, as usual. Agi
  3. The CDROMSP4.TST will be created automatically by SP4 as as soon as it is integrated. Agi
  4. Check out this thread : http://www.msfn.org/board/Utility-Collect-...li-t105761.html Agi
  5. Did you use "burn image" (good) or did you "create a bootable CD" (bad) ? Agi
  6. It was definitely possible to nlite an hfslipped CD (wrote a small tutorial in the german-nlite forum). But this was long ago. I don´t know about the actual versions (especially with the upcoming HFSLIP 2.0). Sorry ! As far as I remember, you don´t need to create an iso with HFSLIP. It´s enough, if you run nlite on the sourcess-folder. Nlite will ask you, if you want to burn directly or to create an iso. It´s possible to create a W2K CD on XP. The only limitation known is, if you try to slipstream XP or W2K on Vista. Agi
  7. @mara- Be glad, that it always (!) works for you. For me and several others, it doesn´t. I was talking about final versions. (But even some tweaks in a (silent) update -and you are correct, Nuhi explicitely notifies us- can make an older preset unreliable, not to mention, what happens, if the drivers or addons are not in the same path anymore. ) It was in the "sticky"-thread of an older final. E.g. there were several problems due to the (german) languagefile-update in the "german-nlite.de"-forum. (But now everybody is happy about it) Don´t know, if there have been similar problems in other fora. Even if we´re talking about "non-localized" english versions of windows, I still doubt, that a preset, built with a former final, is working flawless on an actual one. So it is "ill-advice" to say : "It always (!) works, unless we´re notified by Nuhi". You wouldn´t import an old 1.2.1 preset yourself, won´t you ? @all Use the presets, built within the same final-version, unless it´s specifically mentioned othervise (have a look in the changelogs) and you´re on the safe side. Agi
  8. Take me, Take me ! I know the answer ! It´s e) ! You´re here as long as me. So some basic stuff seems to slip from the memory due to habits. NEVER EVER USE A PRESET, THAT HAS BEEN CREATED WITH A FORMER VERSION ! Even the slightest x.x.2 update makes your former presets unreliable or even completely fails it. It´s in the "sticky" ! Agi
  9. Well, I love and hate nlite. Was a real nlite-junkie. Unfortunately don´t have the time for testing anymore. Since the "alternative runtimes" are gone, it´s very hard to use nlite on a PC where you can´t install .NET on. Last time I installed .NET in a portable sandbox (wish I remembered which it was) and gave nlite the rights to use the data in the sandbox. So everything worked fine. Nlite ran, Iso built and burned, outside the box of course. Afterwards the sandbox was deleted and no traces of .NET were to be found after ccleaner was run. BUT BE CAREFUL ! E.g. "Sandboxie" is a good program, but in some aspects even worse than .NET. It simply "masquerades" its "sandboxed browser" as a "service" and sneaks through your firewall unnoticed !!! Agi
  10. @ponch Tested it with W2K and XP. Found out, via the "hard way" (loss of data), that the partitions don´t have to be active. It´s enough, that they are present and "visible". "Autopartition" doesn´t care about that anyway. It just grabs the first drive, formats it and makes it a partition. That´s the reason, why I have to switch off my IDE-HDD, if C: should be installed on my RAID0-array. Long time ago, I found a pretty good tutorial, what parameters are available and how to use them for "format" and "mount", unfortuanately a systemcrash killed the link and I can´t find it anymore. Agi
  11. No. I meant the one in the HFSLIP or unattended Forum, where you posted as well. Agi
  12. Thank you Camarade Tux ! Do you have the actual link to the other thread ? My bookmark seems not to be working anymore and google is (for me) not available at the moment. Agi
  13. There is a similar thread in the HFSLIP section of this forum. (or at least was, can´t find find it right now...) Am pretty interested in this topic too, even though I´m on W2K (but XP will be on my machine soon). btw. for arcade emu I´m using daphne, ´cause there is nothing, that beats the old classics : dragon´s lair and space ace Agi
  14. You asked, how to find the dependencies. There is a pretty nice onboard tool on your windows CD : depends.exe (old) http://www.dependencywalker.com/ (newer) Just for info Agi
  15. There is one really good reason : Windows always grabs the "first available" partition, if "autopartition" is used. This is, how Windows numbers/ letters the partitions: 1./ c: first primary partition on "device0" (IDE HDD) 2./ d: first primary partition on "device1" (HDD plugged to any controller [ATA or S-ATA]) 3./ e: next partition on "device0" 4./ f: next partition on "device1" I remember vaguely, that there is a "read-me" in the "support-folder" (deploy.exe) on your windowsCD and a "knowledge base" article on microsoft.com, how to modify the .sif . Agi P.S.: @danker Welcome to the forum !!!
  16. Hi FDV ! Forgot to say, that I´m glad, that you are completely back ! Hope, this is some constructive criticism : Hoped for a multilanguage set. Did you find the reason for it ? Maybe something should(n´t) be placed in "keep/ remove files" ? Objection, yer honor ! nlite isn´t faster then HFSLIP, but it has a nice GUI and is geared towards people, who don´t like (or know how) to edit infs. Just integrated DX9 with nlite, got the full bloat, but nevertheless, it´s working. Unfortuanately Tomcat76 doesn´t show the "lean way" on his page anymore ! Agi P.S.: How did you solve the "pianoproblem"
  17. If it doesn´t have to be the original nlite tweak section, use winfaq´s "RegistrySystemWizard". You can create your own tweaks/ tweaklists, ex- and import them. You can also use it to tweak the running system and if a tweak can´t be applied by the program, there´s the winfaq that shows, what keys have to be created/modified and how. There´s even a nice table about the differences of regedit and regsvr32. In difference to tweakui it just recognizes, what tweaks are already set and does not apply any "default tweaks" if you close the program. Agi
  18. For SP3 I´d wait for the final release and check the readme/ knowledgebases, because there have been some strange rumors. But normally a "vanilla"/ "gold"/ "RTM" + latest SP should be the preferrable way to go. Couldn´t get hold of an original "MS W2K with SP4 integrated" yet to crosscheck vs. "W2Kgold" or "W2KSP1 integrated." Agi
  19. Like the new look too, but the old one was not so bad either. Have there been so many changes to W2K, HFSLIP and nlite recently ? Because I´m missing some things now, especially regarding fdv´s fileset and further nliting. There was something like : ...two mechanics can´t work on the same motor at the same time... Agi
  20. Didn´t know if you removed the 16Bit and the support folder. I´m not using XP, so I don´t know if nlite prevented appatch to be copied or just didn´t let it be registered. If it just wasn´t registered, you should find it somewhere on your HDD and run the command I posted. If not, you have to find it on the CD, copy it to the apropriate path and register it manually. The depend.exe (also in support folder) is sometimes a pretty good helper for such dependencies. Agi
  21. Depends on what you removed. Don´t know, if it´s working for XP as well (it´s working on W2K) : Grab your original CD if you removed the support folder and run : regsvr32 Driveletter:\Winnt\AppPatch\SLayerui.dll Agi
  22. What kind of installation did you choose ? It´s missing in the LSinis... And nlite is not removing it ! So your presets seem to be corrupted somehow. Better start completely from scratch ! Fresh source and a reliable updatepack or list. Tried several of those "stuck by T-9 presets" myself, as far as they were applicable to an AMD/ VIA chipset, non SATA. Never got stuck, even though the hardware (see sig) is ancient and the external is even wierd (Amiga500 via 0Modem/ Mustek scanner @ parport,...) Agi P.S.: Please remove the languages and keyboards in the LSinis, when you upload them, because it´s scrolling, scrolling and missing important entries, because the finger bleeds !
  23. @Tomcat76 the Win2K SP4 Support Tools plugin for HFSLIP The Link connects to, no W2K related tool there. It´s short to christmas, so (to MS): Wish there was an option, to update the "support folder" completely, because there is so much useful stuff in there (dependency walker, reg.exe, deployment.doc, mslayer.exe,...). Wish there will be an official W2K SP5. (still 2.5 years "extended support") Agi Have a nice 2´nd Advent
  24. @Tomcat76 There is a little "bug", using the latest version. The last line in the list is empty, so if you "select all", "copy and paste it" from editor or notepad (++) (ctrl+A, ctrl+C, ctrl+V), the empty line is grabbed as well. So nlite get´s problems, handling it. Agi
