How to network three pcs without a Hub/Switch
BigDaddy replied to compass's topic in Networks and the Internet
It's not that hard. I had the same configuration. Basicly U turn the main computer which must be operatoinal all the time if U want to have Network sharing between client PC to a FUL BLOWN ROUTER Anyway this is how my network looked: U need a program called Winroute PRO. If U need more help, just ask me.... But at the end U're better of getting a 5PORT switch. TRUST ME -
Curious, how come this update doesn't show up on MICROSOFT UPDATE? And also how come I get UPDATES FOR OUTLOOK JUNK MAIL when I don't even have OUTLOOK installed??
-
Woav. Tanx, really appreciate the help! Will start working on it at once. To clarify some questoins: It's only aDSL modem hooked directly to NIC #1 The rest of LAN is connected to to onboard NIC. First I'm goona try the easy route INTHEWAYROUTE. IF it works alright I am gonna switch 2 Domain Controller. But have little to no knowledge about it. Guess am gonna have to google it 2 find some good tutorial about it.And also what is ACTIVE DIRECTORY? After I set this up I would also like to have FW. I was thinking about installing OUTPOST FW. Reccommendations?? I would also like to learn more about Nating. Have some basic knowledge about it. Learned it when setting up Winroute PRO

Have Win2k3 S1 Server Eddition installed on the server machine which is also connected to ADSL. I also have 3 client PCs WinXP SP2 connected to this machine thru a switch. How do I set up Internet and filesharing and I would also like to have DHCP so I don't have to type all the IP address on client machines. And cos picture tells more than a 1000 words: ps. Am asking this cos B4 I was using Kerio WINROUTE PRO but now I would like to give Windows' networking a try

That's precisely what I meant. And am sorry, have nothing more. Except maybe U could check the netbios switch. U hvae 3 possible options: ENABLED, DISABLED, DEFAULT btw. If U plug a diff PC in that Network cable does DHCP work? If it still doesn't then there could be a malfunction in serrver's DHCP LEASES
-
I really hate it when I have so many messages in the event, telling me nothing more then when a PC has connected and when a remote desktop link was establisheed.. I wanna disable some of this so I don't by mistake miss a LOG that would be important.
-
Make sure U have DHCP CLIENT enabled in Win2k SERVICES.MSC And are U definatly sure that your company supports DHCP?
-
Remotely Anwhere. Veryy fast when using ACTIVE X, only needs to be installed on the host machine. The client's reach the machine thru IE6, or any other browser but in that case JAVA is neccesary. Which means it's somewhat slower because of java programin

Tomorrow I will be buying it. Now I wanna know if there are some special settings or things I must do? Or I just set every PC IP from:10.0.0.1 ->10.0.0.?? And set the default gateway and DNS servet on client machines to the servers IP? btw. All the client computers have WinXP PRO and the server has Win2k3 Sp1 Server

-
So this one would be OK to buy: ASUS GX1005 10/100Mb switch?!
-
Thought about it but Gb SWITH's are soooo expensive compared to regular 100Mb
-
I need a 5-port 100Mb SWITCH. And would like to know which one would U recommend me and what specs should I be aware of when buying one. But note that I'm still a student which means that every penny counts. Network diagram Server is 24/7 and its primary functions are for ADSL and FILE sharing accross my 3 client PCs
-
I got 5 x 100MBs NICs 4 free so I tried if the network would work and it does extremly well. I just have to use Winroute PRO which handles the rounting and also the security!

Windows 2003 gets disconnected from network
BigDaddy replied to bertovic's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I have a similar problem. Running Win2k3 Server SP1 which has 3NICs installed. 1NIC is for ADSL internet the other 2are for 2client PCs. Now my problem is that when I restart the SERVER, usually my connection to client PC's is severed. And I must disable and then enable the 2 network connections on the server to get the connnection working again. What could I do? -
Recently installed Win2k3 SP1 Standart server And whenever I click on my workgroup it takes half a minute to display the computers. My network looks like this: ps. B4 I used Win2k SP4 and all worked fine
-
If you changed the Subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0 on both, then you should solve the problem (i think) They wont see each other otherwise - this is by design i believe. Give it a try and see how that goes. Cheers, N. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When I tried your advice only the connection from client2server worked but not client2client. So it was even worse. Anymore advices? ps. What about setting up a WINS server will that do what I want?
-
It is quite good, but unfurtenently it doesn't meassure speed of transfer rate. Is there any posibility to enable it somewhere? Else I will have to go find another File Manager
-
Anyone? What must I do, is it even possible with the current OS, or should I upgrade it... Any help would be hot
-
That workds, naturally. But I want to be able to see them when browsing Network neighberhood!

All three of the client computers are running WinXP SP2+updates
