  1. Sounds like it's a workgroup environment...although I have no idea why that would be done when he already has the server OS to create a domain. yes its a workgroup environment. I thinking of switching to DOMAIN but I have no clue how could that be done. Are there any guides?? ps. what would be the advantage of using DOMAIN vs WORKGROUP for this kind of network:
  2. yes but still, when dual booting like in my case UBUNTU LINUX and Win2k this option comes in handy. When I do something in linux and then I have to switch to Win2k for some eg.KOTOR2 playing all I do is type hibernate -r and it hibernates linux and restarts the computer. but from Win2k it shuts down the computer and then I have to start it up again. which kinda SUCKS still hoping for a way to allow restart instead of shutdown from hibernation
  3. great no sollution
  4. I would like the computer to be restarted instead of shutdown after the hibernation is done. Am using dual boot linux / Win How could this be achieved on WinXP and Win2k?? Title Edited - Please follow new posting rules from now on. --Zxian
  5. so I was correct. On Windows XP,2000 theres no GUI way. The reason I was asking this was because a friend of mine said that if LINUX has such an option thru GUI than WINDOWS 10000000% must have it. So I've WON the bet.
  6. didnt help. but I fixed the problem. Had to restart the WORKGROUP service on client machines. Apperantly they keep credentials and when U change the passwords of one of the remote computers the credentials dont match and thus the need to restart WORKSTATION service to erase the cache. Correct me if I am wrong ps. I found about the fix because I could easily access network drivers thru linux. So I knew there was something wrong with Windows XP/2000
  7. Re-read the thread and found out that the above mentioned tips I have yet to try. Perhaps that will fix the error. But how do I get about doing them?
  8. but I get "server name specified is invalid"
  9. MR SNRUB I know about that. Ive already said so in the first post. But what I wonder is how come there's no GUI option for that?? I find it strange since windows is all GUIshe
  10. if I set the password on Win2k3 server for user BILL which has ADMIN priviligies I am no longer able to access the SERVERS network drive thru LAN. Because when I try to connect from a client Win2k + gugelmayer SP4 it asks me for a password, and then I type in the correct username and password but it will always say that the password / username is invalid. But the pass/user is 101% correct. And yes I checked the caps lock. So for now Ive disabled the password on the user BILL. ps. On Win2k3 the ADMIN account has password.
  11. just out of curriosity, is there a GUI mode in which I could do the same as with the above command line? I find it really strange that MS wouldn't include such an option esspecially since Win is all GUIiiish and also my UBUNTU Linux has a GUI option for that
  12. Completed your guide to the letter but my problem still isnt fixed
  13. finally have the sollution. Tanx to a guy at www.SLO-TECH.COM http://www.changeip.com/reports/nsupdates.asp
  14. CLUBERTI Tanx, gonna try it as soon as I get home. RJARRRPCGP No way, my computer is free of any viruses or spyware. And hasn't been infected ever since it was installed.
  15. crap. I quess I will have to reinstall WinXP for this error to get fixed
  16. *bump* please any1 help me with this error.
  17. Should have explained this earlier: taurus-1.siol.net ---> 193.189.160.11 Is my ISP's DNS server. And my ISP's name is SIOL.
  18. Always wondered that myself, I quess I will have to try it sometime. But I doubt anytime soon. Since my primary OS on the laptop now is UBUNTU LINUX. Have decided to throw myself at LINUX.
  19. here it is: Last_Session.ini
  20. changed it to: server.workgroup And so far soo good but I'm still getting the LSASRV error described in my first post. How to get rid of this one?
  21. Using nLited slipstreamed Win2k w/USP5 RC1 Using the default BUILT-IN WINDOWS power icon
  22. Just did that. But I still recieve the error. In the meantime I'm having another problem: Eversince I installed DNS SERVER service on Win2k3 computer and naming the PRIMARY DNS SUFFIX to "workgroup.org" so the full computer name is "server.workgroup.org" I've been getting this in IE and FF when I haven't type the full name of the address: ex.: google instead of www.google.com How to get rid of this?
  23. Tried VICOMSOFT DHCP server. It works as it should. But the problem is memory footprint. Just the DHCP SERVER SERVICE uses about 20MB RAM and 19MB of VIRTUAL MEMORY. I already emailed VICOMSOFT for this huge memory footprint but as usual they have not replied. DOes any1 know if theres a way to decrease the memory footprint? ps. As for problems I've mentione in post No. 3# The machine is working fine now. It was so slugish because both NIC cards were set to automaticly determine speed. And now I've set them manually to 100MB/s FULL DUPLEX and the sistem is very responsive now. Any1 know why this would make the sistem so slugish?
