  1. That is impossible 4 my network type.
  2. When I browse network computers from a client computer I can't see the computers which reside in different subnet, although they are in the same workgroup. I can only access them thru \\computername or by doing a search for them. Example: Computer 1: IP:192.168.1.2 SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0 Computer 2: IP:192.168.2.2 SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0 Now this two computer dont see each. My network diagram: All three of the client computers are running WinXP SP2+updates -------------- I heard I could try to add a WINS server. That should help with seeing computers in other subnets. But I have no idea how to go about this. Any help would be hot! ps. NETBIOS is enabled and on the server machine which is run by Windows 2000 PRO I have set these registry modifications: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters] "IsDomainMaster"="True" "MaintainServerList"="Yes"
  3. So is there no fix to this BUG?=
  4. Instead of putting some hot babe as a wallpaper I would prefer to put some useful information about the machine on the desktop. Like cpu usage or memory usage some, free space, weather forecast, etc..
  5. Is there a way to fix this? Using Win2k Pro
  6. When unchecking "Display delete confirmation dialog" I still must confirm READ ONLY FILES and HIDDEN FILES when deliting files. It's quite annoying. Using WinXP and Win2k
  7. Did U do a surface test on your HDD, and check your MEMORY with MEMTEST and test your CPU with PRIME95? Could be a hardware thing? When U say that if U have many programs open, does it freze when a speciall program is open or just random? What does Task Manager say about memory usage when U open so many windows'
  8. Well the thing is, that Im very intersted in networking. Eversince I hoked the second computer to the now called SERVER and then trying to figure out how can I achieve this kind of connection especcialy without a router or a switch present. So somewhere I found out that this could be done by a great program called Winroute, which is less than NEWBIE friendly. And back than the only thing I knew about networks was ICS and that's pretty it. So in order 4 me to setup so called "software router" I had to dig thru tons of tutorial about networking and DHCP usage, DNS forwarding, which were again not N00B friendly. Once I achived this connection I got very intrested in networking. Back to the topic: Because I use Win2k PRO and not a server edition the DOMAIN thing is not an option to me. So I guess if I ever install a server OS then I shall be asking about it. But in the meantime do U know of any link that would descriebe all the ASPECTS of DOMAINs? I'm wanna learn
  9. As far as I know only: 2000 Pro 2000 Server exist and perhaps 2000 advance server but not sure of this one. Anyways, I'm using Win 2000 PRO. About the adware thing I totally believe U
  10. For my type of LAN it works perfectly: I don't know what kind of memory leaks are U talking about, for me it works for a month without a problem. And this computer isn't only used for Filesharing and Internet sharing, it is also used for encoding DIVX movies, or DVDs along with eMule or Torrents running all the time. So I must say that it's VERY STABLE
  11. Well I read something about it over at M$ but it didn't make much sense to me... But I gathered this: 1.In domain every client computers has its User Account & Password stored in Master Domain server??? But don't know the benefit of this? 2. Domain is good when having more than 1server so the client can ask both servers for verification??? 3.Could a DOMAIN SERVER be WIn2k PRO or must it be SERVER edition? 4. In my home network would you recomend DOMAIN?
  12. uf, my OS was spyware free even be4 I checked him with SpyBot,MS ANTISPYWARE, cos they haven't found anything. I guess 4m tha ADWARE cleans everything out. I guess I'm lucky cos I rarely get any serious spyware and almost never get a virus. Probably cos I don't click and DL everything ps. MS SPYWARE worked perfectly on Win2k. And why shouldn't it...
  13. I found no other way except to restart the server. And now all is well. Tanx 4 your help! ps. I would still like to hear your advice considering DOMAIN vs WORKGROUP?
  14. I can safely say the my OS is ADWARE free. But it still didn't help my problem. SO I had no choice left except to restart the server which I had to do a hard restart since the SHUTDOWN command wasn't functioning at all. Well at least now all is well. Tanx for your efforts
  15. That's IT. I'M MOVING lol
  16. Bloody hell! I thought one was enough. Why can't they just build 1 that is perfect? Will do that when I get home. I'm just on my way out. LOL
  17. When I type: \\mojca\tom And then it ask me for username and I type in Tom, I get this error: The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials. What I meant was that I have not set up a domain only Workgroup ps. On the server I have 3client computers connected, should I use DOMAIN(have no idea what it even is) for this kind of config: btw. I edited my previous post, I hope it makes more sense.
  18. Thats weird. What kind of error do U get when U run XP for more than a day?
  19. Called and obtained the fix. I really dont know why they asked for my home address but hey that's M$
  20. But I've already mentioned that in the first post that the computer was SCANED by ADAWARE and found nothing.
  21. Don't know what U mean by domain controller since I have a workgroup. To be more specific about my problem(was in a hurry the other day): On a client machine named Mojca, I changed the Administrator account to Tom. And now when I want to connect to the client machine(Mojca) from the server, I get this: \\mojca I get access denied But if I connect by its IP: \\192.168.2.2 I get connected without a problem
  22. This is what I get when trying the above line: The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials.
