  1. my nice 24 port 100 meg switch took a puke over the last 36 hours...so now im stuck with an older pos 10 meg switch until further notice...no more quick file transfers for me.. haha, this really sucks tho, everything takes 5 times longer to transfer.
  2. There was a thread..not sure exactly where, but on this forum somewhere..with a bunch of registry hacks, and one of them was disallowing a computer from becoming a master browser in a P2P windows network. If someone knows what thread this is please provide a link...I did some searching and oculd not find it. Thanks in advance.
  3. no, you don't NEED a static IP, just watch it and make sure you know when it changes. my friend has cable with dynamic IP and he went 3 months without needing to reset his modem or router and kept the same IP the whole time.
  4. i've also found that you can't integrate all updates prior to creating the image, if you use roguespear's autoimage to add for example ryanvm's update packs, you need to add them to the image, not add them to a disc and make the image from that disc, in other words create image run autoimage integrated packs.
  5. I don't have any 100 or 1000 mbit, but i have a stack of 3com 12 and 24 port 10 meg switches i wouldn't mind getting rid of. I have about 10 in a stack I don't need.
  6. Active Directory server not connected to the internet, my clients log in as administrators.
  7. I was very surprised with RC1, i have a 5 year old box Dell Dimension 4100 Pentium 3 1.0 GHz 512 MB RAM 40 gig drive it ran very well for that config imo tonight im gonna have to try and get it to install on my laptop p3m 1.2 ghz 640 mb ram 30 gig drive no DVD drive in it tho so im gonna have to open up the image and extract them to a separate partition and install from the hard drive... anyone know if theres any issues with ghost yet?
  8. thanks for this, even tho i rarely ever use it, i always have it installed and its nice to have on hand when i need it.
  9. tried that, didnt work, now i downloaded RC1, added boot.wim, added ultimate form source.wim and its still not working, different than last time, i'll post the error when i get home. thanks again for help.. o and btw, this time it works on neither.
  10. as all(or most) of us know xp pro is the only xp version officially to support active directory domains, what will be the lowest version of vista to join a domain? will home premium or just small bus and higher?
  11. has this only started happening after a recent update? or any other changes(small or big?) are all the machines pulling the same image or different?
  12. didn't know that, i will load the base boot.wim from the beta 2 disc, is this the one you're referring to? otherwise all i have is beta one available to me and soon RC1 when it's released.
  13. awesome, it worked, thanks for the replies i really appreciate it..this will make projects faster and much easier.
  14. could it be storage drivers? if so, where can i pull those drivers from a current xp installation?
  15. ok, i will give that a try, thank you for your reply. I had read something about the oembios files but was never sure if it would be as simple as that, and the windows serial in the winnt.sif file you're talking about should/would/will be the same as the serial that windows gets installed using, like if i went to use one of those windows serial key finders like the older aida 32 that reports all licensed software, the serial key that shows up for a current installation is that one correct? sorry if that made no sense i've been having a crazy week. thanks again.
  16. I tried adding the nic drivers from the machine that wasn't working(i only had the xp drivers) and when i use vpc thru that nic it works fine. when i load it in safe mode it loads everything in that list that the working machine does(last item on list is disk.sys(i believe its sys) on both so im not sure what to try next.
  17. first of all, what does the project need to be/do? second, you only waited 4 hours before you bumped your own thread, i've had to wait weeks before i got a reply on a thread, so wait at least 24 hours before bumping your thread.
  18. When I do the final ximage command to create the final source to use the OSCDIMG command to create the ISO, the ximage program creates a wim file, and im guessing this isnt' what I want because then the OSCDIMG fails...
  19. No, i know how to make backups of cds, I want to isntall the Dell OEM xp thru RIS without screwing the preactivation, I know RIS creates its own unattend file but I want to preserve preactivation so I don't have to deal with that or creating a cd once a month.
  20. Well i've just upgraded my RIS server to WDS from the BDD 2007 Beta, One of my computers works fine with both the RIS and WDS, my newer computer won't boot the WinPE image(boot image for WDS), it loads the TXT loading bar, but will not fully load the graphical loading bar page(similar to xp boot screen), but that gets me is the fact that the older computer works fine, but my new one won't any suggestions? old computer - works PIII 1 GHz 512 MB RAM booting off PXE with Realtek 8139(PXEboots RIS fine) 40 GB HDD New computer - won't work PIIIm 1.2 GHz 640 MB RAM booting off PXE with 3Com 3c920(pxeboots RIS fine) 30 GB HDD Thanks in Advance
  21. I as well as other people have asked how to manually repartition while installing windows. Microsoft has actually given this to us and it appears that many people don't know it. Open Active Directory Users and Computers locate your RIS Server and double click on it(or right click and select properties) Click on the Remote Install tab. Click the advanced settings button. Click on the images tab when the new window pops up. Click the add button, another window will appear. Select "Associate a new answer file to an existing image." Click next. Select Windows image sample files. and click next. Select your original image and click next. Select "Windows Professional - no repartition"(wording may vary) click next, select a name and it's all ready to go, test it on a client and you should be able to manually repartition your clients.
