  3. are the 2 computers connected by a crossover cable? if so, that's ur problem
  4. I've been getting complaints at work(mainly on newer updated xp sp2 images) mainly on HP DC5100 business desktops. updates are current within a month, and I'm thinking it was a hotfix that's causing this but can't tell which one it might be. Basically no every time I install a driver for a device, especially USB Thumb drives, the users are told to install 3 drivers(usb mass storage, generic volume, and disk drive) but they're afraid to, plus we don't want them to have to and they don't want to go thru the hassle of going thru the add/remove hardware wizard, each user and sometimes seems to be certain usb drives and each user, they want to plug in the USB stick, wait 3 seconds and use it. Does anyone know what may be causing this problem? or a way we can fix it without reinstalling windows and creating yet another image?
  5. compared to FC5 I think it sucks, my wide screen resolution was messed up(1440 X 900 looked like a full screen resolution on my widescreen monitor...only took up about 4/5 of the monitor) and there was an extra nic and i have no clue what that was.
  6. I spent 4 hours uninstalling NIS on my cousin's computer ebcause NIS and all the other norton products on the comptuer were slowing it down and p***ing me off... the SYMNRT was the only thing that would uninstall it, going into add/remove programs and clicking uninstall crashed it, running NIS crashed it, neither of the 3, IE, Firefox or opera could connect to HTTPs or FTP sites.
  7. Well, no, I have my software (Win2K) legal, rest assured. I was actually talking about the won't be a problem getting them as referred to "disk" rather than "license". If the "no problem" is instead referred to license, I do however envy you. Everyone has of course his own metods of measurement, for me finding a NT4 License on sale, say $50, plus spending about $160 for a Server 2003 license, plus (probably) $399 for Vista Ultimate, sum up, including package, postage and handling to an estimated $630 problem. jaclaz :|...where can u get a server 2003 lic for 160? and is that SBS? or web? or wat
  8. i wanna try...think u could post or last config from nlite? how long did it take to install?
  9. ISA 2006 is out..final...I haev the trial but i won't send it cuz i have dialup http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/default.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/prodinf...l-software.mspx
  10. does anyone else have issues with vmware server and certain linux distros with GUI's? i get vertical lines and mainly black and white, no color and very distorted..makes it very hard to try and install vmware tools.
  11. are you sure the gpo is working? do a gpresult at a CMD window and make sure they're picking up the gpo. am I correct in assuming you've tried gpupdate /force on several machines?
  12. I haven't found a way to password protect it, but the partition IS hidden from windows, and u can enable/disable the boot prompt in less than a minute. http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7
  13. in an active directory domain..push the following gpo to all systems computer config System Logon -enable: Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon
  14. acronis trueimage 7 is now available for free...you can use that to create a hidden partition that creates a backup image of your hard drive, or partition, you can then choose to ask if you want to start the recovery manager by pressing F11 at bootup. No cd's are required for this operation.
  15. nuhi, with nLite, most images with drastic chagnes were not RIS ready, with vLite, are these going to be WDS ready? if you're not sure, anyone who can please do some testing along with me. I don't have a full version yet but hope to get it very soon through MSDNAA. Once i get it i will start doing some major testing with it. thanks Nuhi for your time and effort.
  16. i want a monster server to play with ESX...too bad i dont have 10 grand to spend:'(
  17. the distro in the tutorial is Red Hat 9, but that should follow the same or similar guidelines for most distros. I can't provide a link to the download, you have to register to obtain your serial anyway. I'll upload the PDF sometime this week.
  18. Would anyone be interested in a tutorial for installing VMware Server 1.0.1 on Linux?
  19. i havent heard much of vienna...but if memory serves me correctly there was supposed to be a release between vista and blackcomb yet..not necessarily Vista R2 either.
  20. sweet. I'm using the free Vmware server in my home environment and i love it...much more convenient than running workstation or VPC I guess i should've put ESX in the choices list but i wasnt thinking. I wish i had a good enough system to run 3 or 4 vms at once..but i don't have cash for a new server.
  21. Hey guys, doing some batch file stuff for homework. I forget how to get input from a user and set it as a cmd variable here's what my instructions are: Create a batch file that will ask the user, after the batch file is executed, to input a first name, last name, and a username for that user. Your job is to add that person ads a local user. You will also need to create a home directory for them in D:\home\username and share the directory. In addition, you will need to set their password to 12345678 and add them to a local group called "testgroup" (which you need to create in this batch file). They should only be allowed access from 6 AM to 10 PM on Monday thru Friday and their full name should be added appropriately also. Basically, my main question at the moment is how to get the user input after the batch file is executed(meaning i can't do this) batchfile.bat Firstname Lastname username Password..... and use %1, %2 and so on... so im asking how to get user input after batch file has been executed. thanks in advance
  22. cool, Well I use Vmware server, because it's free and i don't like having my VM's hog my local system's resources.
  23. just wondering how many of us actually use Virtualization software. I find it a huge convenience, especially now that vmware server and ms virtual server are free.
