JJA, nlite should have done that for you, it keeps a clean backup of the file. I wonder why it didn't happen. If you find out how to duplicate that issue, installed with some other method other than booting from the cd or running winnt32 or you tampered with the installation let me know, thx.

Your writing style is kinda weird. Do you know that nLite can be minimized into the tray (lower left button), maybe it was hidden there. Also try running nlite /? that will popup the instructions for the silent operation you maybe are talking about.

Maxfutur, maybe you had to recheck all the pages after loading it, it can't do tweaks if that page is disabled for example.

Please attach your preset. Before there was some issue with the registry permissions in the installer path: HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer" See if the permissions are right on that reg path, should be fully allowed for the administrators and the system if I'm not mistaken.

PowerCycle, only thing that I can comment is that when you skip the User creation then those options for the Network location and the Protect your PC are disabled and not applied. Gotta check that admin thing, when mine doesn't autologon I simply click on the name...also when I create a new user it doesn't ask me anything. Quite weird that you got all that like it's reset or something. Can you explain that "can't use Administrator because it's in-use", was it hidden and only normal users were shown or it was really unaccessible on the click, what did it say? For example Quake 3 game won't work if you set it as Always On. I think when Always On then you have to insert the excluded apps manually in the system properties, I wonder why they didn't make it like a popup, then it would be very useful. There were few more examples here on the forum but can't remember them now, suffice to say it is a very problematic option, I wouldn't recommend it Always On for anything other than some serious servers. If in doubt just leave it default, that's what I do. Search on MS site for more info.

low_tech, you're right. It's a tweak, perfectly normal. Somehow I missed the "start menu" part, probably was too hasty because of the impossible accusation about the patch.

Vista detects the hardware after the first reboot, at the Completing Installation, if I understood you correctly you don't see anything then. Check if your hdd shows some activity and wait until it finishes, you won't need to enter anything. Remember to integrate a WHQL, non-beta driver if you want it to install without a popup. Vista won't pull your XP Display driver, it uses different ones.

Don't worry about it, the proof that it hanged for me too when Netdde was removed is enough to put you at ease. Just I'm currently busy, I'll get back to you and we'll solve it. If it hangs for you again with Netdde kept then just wait, or try older versions.

Sort IE to be integrated before the IE hotfix (just move it above). Also sort others by the Build Date on the integration page.

Tried rebooting and then using the same preset? Also that stalling at the preparation is weird, never heard of it before. Do you have DEP forced ON or some other protection, really don't know what to recommend. 1.3.5 will probably be the same. nLite does not use registry engines, only the installer for it does. You can simply delete it or run the other version from the other folder. But since nLite couldn't access your reg you're enforcing some serious blockades, maybe unintentionally, maybe broken your Windows somehow.

Check if that windows already have i386\nlite.in_ file before you modify them?

If you just imported the drivers and selected only the Driver page and ISO page then I can't say it makes any sense. See if you used some other tool as well.

slippykillsticks, what can i say, I tested it and with NetworkDDE kept it works. I will retry again to be sure, then I yell at you for not using clean files or some other tampering Btw presets are loaded for all windows the same. If they are for both then don't worry, just press allow, but if they are whql it won't ask to allow it will just install.

It installs it before the first logon so you might be in luck. However test it first, don't format your working partition or something, be prepared to redo your CD/DVD, use RW. Also let me know how it goes.

Patching uxtheme within nlite won't cause that. Never heard about it btw.

If you say they are all for Vista 64 then fine.

Did you change the Autounattend.xml in the root, or used WAIK or something for the unattended ? If you did then debug the "specialize" node.

Looks good, just uncheck the Chipset\All, that's for 2k/XP/2k3 Windows. Also don't be surprised if you get some "allow" popups during the installation if your all drivers are not Vista and WHQL ready. And some of them might not work, but I presume you are integrating the already tested ones.
