Ok What do you have to keep to beable to install a different language
nuhi replied to Travis1982's topic in vLite
If I remember correctly it was just Windows Search before but that was maybe fixed since I did change something about that removal. Try it once in virtual pc with network support, if you have a fast internet connection or already downloaded language pack you can't go wrong. OR integrate the language pack with vLite then you can be safe to remove whatever you want. If it fails during install let me know, some have issue with the Spanish lang pack. -
I am planning to review add an option to remove uninstall files, if any when integrated.
-
Maybe a too rought estimate but simply multiply 32bit by 2 and you get 64bit size for both. Final size depends what you select, minimum so far for 32bit Ultimate is 492MB ISO I think.
-
Jeronimo, try freshly after rebooting. krash56, it highlights both because it can be already integrated in the lower list. Just remove any yellow one by one, it will clear the mark from the double automatically. benifin, k, I'll put that one the list for consideration. sp00f, Media Center video is removed with Media Center. It is in todo to separate those two. Maybe that's what you've been seeing.

I believe that's ok. Vista even when all removed is still bigger than full XP, or something like that. And it has bigger cache which is loaded during startup. With time as more removals are added that will get faster. Haven't seen how much mine needs but since I kept Superfetch it's probably longer because of bigger preloaded cache. Also network checking/logging can prolongue things so maybe if you disable all your network cards it would be 5 seconds faster, just for the sake of testing, doesn't have to be the case.

Ok, open the xml after vlite and add wcm: infront of action to be <MetaData wcm:action="add"> Gonna fix.
-
If you must know it's saved in todo, so what can I say. Released a new version, give guy a break for a few days.
-
Ok but what is the line 26 of that Autounattend.xml file? Best would be to paste lines 25,26 and 27, if they contain private data then edit to some example but preserve original structure.
-
Ok I'll think about it. How about you look at the double ones, delete them from your folder and be done with it.
-
sp00f, this is the last time I'm repeating this: it is removable, try to remove Windows Media Samples from the Multimedia section. krash56, it's when they are double. Meaning it can already contain same hotfix but different version in the queue or in the bottom already integrated. It's just a warning if you inserted 2 of the same hotfixes to check for yourself, or you loaded same preset and all of them are already in.
-
Now I tried the first pack, CABs, and it works fine.
-
Finally! someone with that issue. I have prepared a kb929777 workaround if the integration alone doesn't help you. Contact me on PM for the test version.
-
The reason is unknown but it is a bug which gets reported. Try to search the forum, maybe there is a solution. I remember someone saying remove read-only attributes, keep vLite in different folder, change Temp folder in Options and so on.
-
benifin, biggest now is the C:\Windows\winsxs folder which contains some needed runtimes and a lot of backup files. There was a component to remove them but it showed that they are needed for hotfixes so no go. It gotta go gradually, as the new component is removed backup gets removed as well. DESERAPIS, so if I understood correctly the last session.ini gets erased on the second run? Hm I doubt that ever happened to me and there is no problem running vLite as many times as you want. Anyway there is no pressure to find a bug, just report one if you are really sure. That hotfix issue is interesting but I doubt that vLite causes it.
-
You are talking about some links and empty folders, right? I do agree that it would be nice to remove but the sample files themselves are removable already.
-
So all that Neowin Autopatcher fiasco doesn't bother you, or there was a catch to that situation?
-
sp00f, missing how, there is Windows Media Samples in the Multimedia branch? DESERAPIS, Windows SAT is not needed for Aero. Read the description for more details. You can select Aero by hand in Personalize - Color if it didn't detect it, that's all. When did it prompt for missing files, which files if you remember? edit: I tried it now with all removed and just kept SAT, while the setup was ok, no missing files, but the SAT didn't work. Meaning it needs something. It's not Media Samples if it's to trust another user who made me remove that dependency and when I tried without it it worked. Anyway gonna write here what it needs and you let me know about those files. edit2: It's WMP Codecs.
-
DESERAPIS, I tried Aero compat and it works. ISO also boots so what are you talking about? In other words are you using original Vista installation DVD/ISO or some tweaked one, and try it again. For compatibilities select means enabled while for components select means remove. Missing files? Vista doesn't copy files one by one, it just extracts image.
-
It should have had a service pack integration but MS blocked that with the latest RC. So there goes many hours in vain. Anyway it contains enough new stuff to be considered a worthy update. Zoom away. Changes and download
-
They are not deleted, it's just while Server is going through other component data it tries to read the removed ones and stops there. It's just a matter of finding what to clean, gonna do it for the 1.1 final.
-
mimanig, I tried exactly as you said and it was fine, all languages were intact. That leads me to believe that you're already using a nlited source from which every language was removed, I never heard of this before that English is there and all others are not, that can be only if you or someone else removed them.
-
Ok so the answer is placebo, feels smoother and nicer but no proof, even benchmarks show that it's slower. I spent a lot of money on hifi cables because I thought I hear the difference, until one day I did a blind test and there it is, harsh truth. Too bad you can't do a blind test, 2 same pcs with the same game and settings on a different OS. Now it seems I am picking a fight because I should have kept my mouth shut on this one, faith is a nasty thing to debate about.
-
Why would Vista be better for games? Because of the Game Explorer and Parental Controls? Lets put the DX10 aside since only a handful of games support it and judging from the pictures I don't see any difference in image quality and the speed is lower of course. Not trying to pick a fight, I'm genuinely interested and I am running Vista as my main OS.
-
That's exactly what I was hoping for as well but they merged all the hotfixes into one so it can't skip (some can?) missing components like hotfixes. They can put "Ignore missing files" flag into it but didn't because that way when full Vista errors out it would be undetected. If final SP fails only on some removals I'll gladly add SP1 compatibility option but that said it still isn't recommended to install it over the configured OS.
