Because you will eventually upgrade your hardware and Vista will be better at exploiting the new features you'll get the same experience as going from 2k to Xp on your present hardware. Just imagine 3d accelerated GUI with dual core CPU support, and majority of gamers will have that soon. I don't see them using KDE. **** I sound like MS propaganda but basically I don't like what they do either.

They promised something similiar in Vista, it should stop unneeded services and boost priority, something like that but it is (will be) there. Also they are aiming on faster hardware. This is same as win2k->XP->sp2 story, it will never end, at least not until we stop dancing or you cure me from geekitis

enderandrew, I thought so too then they said that DX10 will be Vista only! Seems like a strike below the belt doesn't it. For me DX means multimedia and rarely games...it will probably pass a year or two until it's a must.

No icon yet. I'll be slowly adding what annoys me with installed software on my own rig. And I won't put components from nlite in it, it's just for cleaning the garbage which post-installation causes. I have started and made post install component removal for Vista (5-6 components) but I'm not happy with it, it's silly to wait an hour to install the OS then remove what you don't need, I want it all done in pre-install. So I decided to wait for the next beta and preinstallation Vista tools made public then give it a shot, until then nlite final and fun with nlite 1.1 beta. If it proves too hard to do it pre I'll just continue on post. No reason to push it now since the OS is still buggy so I don't know whose fault is the caused malfunction while debugging.

I tried it on Simplified Chinese and Printers were removed ok so if you are sure in your problem attach your preset.

Components are the same, only difference is in the installation deployment. Reason to do this...well if your Vista is fast as XP then good for you but for me nLited XP is so much faster than Vista that something has to be done if I ever plan to buy Vista. Why I even want Vista if I don't want the new components...well it's the new and safer environment, better multimedia support. Maybe they will allow custom install with their deployment tools, seems like everything is prepared for that.

Working on it, just 3 components for now so have some more patience before it gets interesting. I too couldn't stand the bloatness but I like the Vendetta beta 2 so something had to be done.

I don't see how nlite could have disabled your themes, check your registry.reg

That is fine, you see I was stating that when you disable SFC in nlite it wont filter out removed files from protection while you are using addon nlite things that sfc is left enabled and thus it's ok.

Hm...that's actually not ok because nlite will filter out removed files only if you leave SFC enabled in the first place.

bledd, you learned quite a lot about your condition, good that you didn't give up. I wish you fast recovery so you can be interested in 'CPU benchmarks' as soon as possible.

calderstrake, I like to recommend the Display Driver removal because there is no point in having the old drivers in the installation, they may take over if the new one is not WHQL. Are you sure that integrated drivers don't work for you if you remove old ones?

Ok now the important step...can you explain exactly how did you run nlite the second or the third time? For example: - copied clean cd - slipstream Service Pack - restart nlite - integrate drivers - restart nlite - remove components ? So as you may have guessed that restart line is important for me to test what went wrong. And did you use any addons in the process?

Just a quick silly question, are you using RC8 when having the same issue? (be sure in this)

Finally someone that's using addons for what they are intended for, not just applications. Sure, if you're using Rikgale_XPRAID5_addon_v1 for example that's proof enough. If you encouter any issue with such addon and nLite be sure to drop me a message, I'll be happy to fix. This idea will help to many, when you have the link let me know and I'll put it on the addons page, maybe even open new section for proven drivers.

Can you post a link to that specific driver and also was it edited in any way, did you run nlite more than once on that source?

I will try but you haven't told me the obvious first, is it just that you see Printers listed even if removed, no other issue, Windows worked ok?

tianchg, can you explain a little more what fails exactly, installation or printers are still installed? Which error is displayed? Attach preset. Thx.

Yeah I would like to get this fixed but there are two things: 1. it's veeeerry complicated since you are asking to remove half windows and keep sfc, it requires some serious hacking and it's being done quite well, except those few files which popup every now and then 2. it's boring since I never use SFC, thus it's hard for me to concentrate on this problem while there are many others more critical. Going to check it for next version, after rc8.
