This is not the warez section. Where did you buy your XP "Performance edition" ?
-
Read your "Tweaks" section in your Last Session.ini, it will probably take you less than 30 seconds to find out what you shouldn't have activated (it's called "active tracking" or something like that). Then you'll have to search for the asociated regkey to undo the change if possible.

Hi, we've had several cases the last few months of computers losing network connection. The cable appears plugged in but the little yellow triangle says "limited or no connectivity" (or something like that). Reseting the cable at both ends or restarting the PC doesn't change anything, the computer doesn't get any IP from the DHCP and cannot ping anything. All appears correct in the NIC's properties (well, nothing has been changed either). I've found out now that pulling the power plug on the PC solves the problem. So my question is... is it possible that a problem in the network plug or at the other end (hub ?) "blocks" the NIC untill hard reset or does this look like a hardware problem ? Anybody had that ?

Has it worked before, if yes, any modification (soft ir hardware) in between ? Have you tested your USB ports with an other device ? Any PS2 or serial mouse in the house ?

Registry problems are not adressed by checkdisk. Checkdisk takes the time it needs, I don't know what you hope to fix with anything else. Bad sectors and physical problems (like power loss or mechanical deffect or hit) are the only things I can think of that cause a need for checkdisk.

How to use nLite unattended without automatic account creation?
Ponch replied to adiadasman's topic in nLite
nLite is free for personal use only, you cannot use it for any company or business purposes at this time. -

Everybody SMILE, you're on The Register! -
You don't need to drop a HDD for it to get corrupted. They do it on their own. they are the most replaced part of PCs. That only being a huge advantage, SSD also seem to be already faster, and don't need defragmentation. Downside for the moment are still capacity and price/capacity. I'm sure all laptops have one in a year on. With a blue ray disc and Windows 7.

manual install and uprgrade option is missing from my opearating syste
Ponch replied to digitalvynil's topic in nLite
Most likely you tried to start from an already "light" XP you found on the internet but only God knows what's been removed from it. -
Your Bios doesn't care about partitions, active or not, operating systems or not, only hardware devices matter. Now if it is really random, you have a problem. Or a bad keyboard. I don't know much about eSATA, but if when you boot with external drive "on" you get a submenu (a "+" for HDD in the boot order, check that it doesn't come before internal SATA.

Wi-Fi (short for "wireless fidelity") is a term for certain types of wireless local area network (WLAN) that use specifications in the 802.11 family. The term Wi-Fi was created by an organization called the Wi-Fi Alliance, which oversees tests that certify product interoperability. A product that passes the alliance tests is given the label "Wi-Fi certified" (a registered trademark). Wireless can be anything. Bluetooth is wireless, HSDPA, 3G, you can have wireless keyboards etc.

You'll have to fiddle with these HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF\TIP\{DCBD6FA8-032F-11D3-B5B1-00C04FC324A1}\LanguageProfile Apparently an entry for the System's language is added (at install I guess). For instance I have only dutch and french installed (813 and 80c), but my XP is english US and I have reg 3 entries; 409, 813 and 80c.

Still expensive, but http://www.sohodiffusion.com/produit.asp?num=9495 that's 171 years... how do they test that ? And how do you make it unreadable ?

Your explanation is a bit complicated (sorry, I read it 3 times and can't get it clear ). A few ideas: -some ISP want you to hook only one computer so they lock the MAC adress to be used. Using an other MAC adress requires rebooting the modem or ringing the ISP. -you have 2 network cards in one of your PC (not clear which one), your "IPconfigs" infos show only one adapter. Maybe a driver or configuration problem (both DHCP ?) or IP adress conflict. I don't know if you can have 2 network cards with the same IP in a computer, I never tried.

DVD drive issue: cannot boot from it; solution or make a multi-CD inst
Ponch replied to Happy-Dude's topic in nLite
I suggest this as well. Or double check jumper settings. Maybe one drive is set as slave the othter one as cable select but on the mid end of the cable and so there might be a twist. Strange the slave boots but not the master. -
There is no such option in nLite. I think you should post that in the XP or in the "Unattended Windows" forum.
-
That's the decisive info. You have a USB keyboard and you need to enable "Legacy USB" in Bios or something like that so that your keyboard works at that step. If you can't find that setting, use a PS2 keyboard if you have one and if your mobo allows.
-
Can you not test it with an other PC, a cross cable and fixed IPs ? Are you sure you installed XP the same way as the previous times and no settings modification ? Can you have your ISP (if that's what's on the other end) doing some basic checks ?

Hi Forkprong, Most of your questions have been answered numerous times. The key you are using is probably not working before modification with nLite, it won't work after nLite, it is not an nLite problem nor an "SP3 slipstream" problem. You need to use the same key as your HP disc uses when it auto fills (unattended) the key field. Not the key that's on your sticker. Find that key in the answer file on the CDs. This way you'll also benefit from the "preactivation" feature this key provides (using some files from the cd and a match check with the machine's Bios) An other case is people using "public" keys that are blacklisted by either SP2 or SP3 but I don't think this is your case. The missing files are reported because the source has probably been modified before slipstreaming the Service Pack, and the SP assumes and makes them listed as "present" when they are not. Either you used nLite at least once before slipstreaming the SP and you need not to, or you need an other (complete) source. Cheers.

You don't have to remove any driver, they will simply not be present physically and so not showing. But the worse scenari for your action are still BSOD or failure to boot Windows with loop reboot.

Is it a noraml that XP machine face performance issues ?
Ponch replied to Hem_UK's topic in Windows XP
Translation: Translation: I don't want to reinstall. (I think most people missed that one) Translation: I may not be a basic user but I surely am on the OS level. There for, I'm asking for some help/infoNow, You invest your time because you have the knowledge and the background that makes it 'cost effective'. I did as well, most of us did. Now imagine your friends or family members taking their time (hours? months ?) making images based on your explanations (nothing personal here really). Would you try that ? Would you expect them to ? Now what if they want to ? As a matter of facts, the OP has posted, got his answers, all on the 14th of december and never logged on again, this confirms my understanding of what he wanted and why this post has afterwards gone ... "lost in space". I think you can understand what I meant so I stop here. Cheers -
Is it a noraml that XP machine face performance issues ?
Ponch replied to Hem_UK's topic in Windows XP
Are we lost in space ? The original poster (remember him ?) wants his computer to go a bit faster because he's been using it for numerous years. That's the kind of people who will reinstall a machine maybe every five years, if ever. A normal user (they exist, they're everywhere, they are the majority). First answers were about spending few minutes tweaking it. Time well spent. Now here we go, ...save more time, - learn nLite, learn unattended, learn imaging, then you'll be reinstalling in few minutes. In real world, we're not talking minutes we're talking months !!! -
I can't see what's "not true" in my answer beside the fact I admit it's not very precise. If you like to think partitions are "randomly recognized", I don't think so.

Woooow... I'm not a programmer but I can see StarGazer's point. Now to say that his problem doesn't come from nLite but from the fact that "it seems" he's running it more than once on the same source is not the most helping as he states clearly himself that he does and that it is the cause of the problem and he was just pointing to the exact location of the problem with a possible solution. That gets him a bit annoyed. I can understand that. The rest of the thread totally is irrelevant. a bit like -nLite does A, B, C but doesn't work properly when you do D, well I think the bug with D comes from E and you could solve it by doing F. Anyone interrested ? -I can't see any problem with my E, your problem probably comes from D anyway which you're not supposed to do, so it's not a bug. -you don't get it. -how very dare you ? Anyone got something technical to add ?
