    Setup Xp SP3

You "copied" boot.ini ? from where ? Did you edit it? +It would be helpful to tell what comes on your screen.
  2. I don't know, I never tried. But you could try booting from USB using the floppy image included in the 1st zip file on this page and check our "Install XP from USB" forum and its different methods.
  3. You're welcome.
  4. Some people reported that integrating SP2 prior to SP3 enables the "keyless" SP3 install (ability to install without key, having to enter a key later). I can't confirm (didn't spend an hour just to test that). This is not paranoïa though.
  5. How much data in the directory after nLite processing ? And what's the name of the directory ?

    boot xp

-What do you boot ? An XP install CD/DVD ? -How do you "use" SATA drivers ? At F6 ? with a USB floppy ? -Where did you get them drivers from and are you 100% sure they are those you need ?
  7. Not a big problem here but I like to understand what's going on... Why is it that sometimes (not only with XP), when copying files to an empty directory, Windows stops and asks if it's alright to overwrite a file (that already exists)? Why is it copied twice? Is this a shortcut thing? Associated files? What?
  8. Check Power options in BIOS, they can overrule your Windows settings.
  9. Check "Classic Theme" in Unattended for Win2K look. +if XP Home, you have to create a 2nd account.
  10. This is not the prduct key but the product ID (I'm not sure whether it refers to the version only or also the media it's installed from). To read the product key, you need 3rd party programs. As for the rest, please check the big red bold text up your screen indeed.
  11. I think at this point it would be a huge shortcut to pass by a friend that has a recent machine (XP or later) and see how that drive behaves.
  12. But your (good) screenshot says 2.40.
  13. from the documentation, (UPDATES in ver 2.42 , thus not 2.40) " > 128 GiB disk support but only upto 1.99 TiB - UNTESTED" I'm all right with a 500Gig and apparently dencorso is fine with his 1.5Tera.
  14. I never suggested "wireless". All of them I've seen are actually plugged with a connector a bit like batteries have, the other contact being fixed to the case or soldered to the motherboard. And a screw ensure they stay exactly in the place they are supposed to be so there is no chance at all of a bad contact, unless you put something between the two connectors in which case it never works.
  15. I'd say so far, not good at all. RPM sees a 6Gig drive but so does Swissknife. At first it saw a 6GB drive with a total of ~1Tera partitions in it (hence red numbers). Now after DIY, it only shows that 6Gig space that you can partition (which probably was the 1st partition from the starting point). My intuition is that you do not have a standard disk but a disk with some hardware protection (encryption or other, probably not compatible with ME) that we killed. Can you give us the brand and model? As for zeroing, RPM can do that (pressing "E" on the desired space/partition) but I don't think it will help as it will only zero what it sees. As Hammer would say, ... Stop! Jaclaz time.
  16. Why was the drive replaced at first ? (similar problem ?) Sorry for suggesting a cable problem, I hadn't paid attention to the fact it's a laptop.
  17. Be sure the KVM (which by the way stands for keyboard-video-mouse) has the plugs or cables you need, depending on the video output on both computers (VGA or DVI) and on your screen. I guess the keyboard and mouse will be USB on both machines as they've all been since 6 years.
  18. Check the hardware with "CDCheck" (freeware/shareware) I think it shows speeds as well. If the readings are bad on most your (known good?) media, the drive is faulty (unless cables have not been properly fastened inside the case). If the readings are ok but your video/music won't play ok, you have a software problem. Could be malware related (->whole computeing experience slow) as well.
  19. I guess "unofficial" meant after MS stopped supporting the said OS? XP and Vista are still supported, what's wrong with Windows update ? Unless you want offline or "pre-installation" updates? In which case you might be interested by some threads on the nLite subforum. This one for instance.
  20. I was going to ask why not do the same with the VGA card but then you add ...it's integrated. If you can get a dirt cheap AGP card to test, do it. If not, as the system is 5 years old, it might be time for an upgrade indeed or to buy an equivalent mobo.
  21. Did you try them on those same cables (power and signal) or both 320 and 500 on a 2nd cable ?
  22. because 98 doesn't use NT security. Can you not just use the XP login name and (no)password if that is what you have to log on your XP system ? Or check how the files are shared on the XP machine (any restrictions?)
  23. the system was not made for such capacity and obviously cannot display all digits in the columns. Due to the rounding (1024 vs 1k), 943.977 seems correct.
  24. Ibbelll, please, -stop swearing, we don't like it -stop using CAPS, we don't like it -stop ignoring replies, like "please read forum rules", or "there's no localized version of tweakUI", it makes people feel like they are wasting their time reading and answering you.
  25. +Kel's link refers to a german version, not dutch.
