  1. What exactly is your XP SP2 cd ?
  2. And how would we know what you removed ? Please read the big red bold text up your screen and you might get more help.
  3. Can't you "rus as..." the account that was created at install and which by design has administrative rights? Or is that the original problem (as it possibly has a blank password) you tried to workaround using "administrator"?
  4. I tried the 2nd one and it's ok now. Thanks.
  5. HI, everybody. The forum is bit slow so I thought I'd wake some of you with a 2nd zone question . I'm currently using two computers at work (domain accounts) and my predecessors have fiddled with threm for quite a while. But I do not want to reinstall them as it'd be bad for my nerves. They are used mainly for remote assistance. My little annoyance is; the "Run..." box gets emptied at each logon (or log off). I've found plenty of explanation on how to empty the box, but none on how to stop this happening. I've looked in log on/ log off script (none) on the computers, in the registry (Run) for both User and Machine, it is not the domain login script (as I do not have the problem in a Citrix session with same account and same login script), I've checked startup folder... So what next ?
  6. Not if you do it the proper way nLite does it, in one go.
  7. I don't know much about this one (just been entering calls for a few months at a client, I have'nt looked at any configuration) but it's free; GLPI.

    Firewall Error

I don't know what program you tried but Virtualbox does work with (both XP) 256Meg for host and 256 for guest.
  9. Look... you're a new member, OK. As it stands now, you are asking for help modding an illegal download of Windows XP. We don't do that here. You could be banned right now for breaching the very first rule of the forum (1a). I suggest you read the forum's rules, then accept the fact I was kind enough to still give you a (correct) answer at first.
  10. This is what you get for using "Black Editions" and such. Use an original.
  11. Strange this guy here has the same problem.
  12. Check if it's blowing in the good direction. I once saw a fan mounted in the wrong direction with two air flows were cancelling each other. The CPU was constantly downstepping. Not sure if it had been replaced or came out of factory like that (FujitsuSiemens desktop). I was really lucky to notice that (I knew the front fan was supposed to suck air because some people were putting post cards on their computer and some were sticking and blocking the air entrance). The (warranty) tech must really have thought I was an expert . B)
  13. With nLite or manually (command line)? If yes, at what point do you get your error when integrating drivers? That would be an indication that nLite doesn't like to work on removable drives. A simple workaround would be to perform all operations on a set of files that is on a fixed drive. I don't understand why you insist on processing the files on the flash drive (you can copy them when it's finished or check our "Install Windows from USB" forum). Very few people have had problems running nLite itself, maybe a search on the exact error would get you a result.
  14. I think Tripredacus meant the heatsink. Is it running full speed from the moment you turn it on (completely cold) or is it firing up after few minutes (and stay full speed) ?
  15. Not sure if it's a bug or a feature. I know that for instance, for MediaPlayer Classic, to get a valid screenshot, you have to change (use an old) rendering in the options. In VLC you have a "Snapshot" function that creates a file in "MyPictures" (format and folder can be changed).
  16. Is it a bootable disk made by yourself (at the time you first started the machine) or some DVD that was included in the package ? Why do you wan to recover ? (what's the 1st problem ?)
  17. nLite's developpement is stopped since few years now, there is no "in the future". Win2k is not the OS of the future either. Then again using Win 2000 Datacenter Server for "personal/non commercial use" (as restricted by nLite's EULA) may be a strange idea.
  18. XP came with drivers for most devices that existed at the time (~mid 2001). Vista came with more/newer drivers and 7 with even newer drivers. There is no "newer" version of XP than that including a Service Pack. Service Packs do include new drivers and drivers updates as well as hotfixes and security updates, but not to the point of having as much drivers as newer OS's. Your XP might have a driver for your sister's controller but not for your MoBo's controller. Also maybe you needed a driver for your additional cards you mentionned in posts #5 and #9.
  19. Because when facing a dead HDD, the line between hope and dispair tends to become the line between "rage and won't bother", and because some people like to push that line in the good direction, I'll tell you all what happened last week. A laptop came in with no HDD recognized. I hooked it with an external (sata to USB) connector. The noise was a loud "bzzzzz, ....bzzzzz,....bzzzzz,....bzzzzz" like a mobile phone in silent mode. A device was found but nothing was appearing in Disk Manager. I just got an other HDD and we reinstalled the computer. It turned out later that a file was really needed from the dead HDD. So I got it out the bin, and tried again. Bzzz Bzzz. I hit it on the desk, holding it vertically, a bit harder, a bit harder, and "TAC" ! there it was! called a colleague to copy the file while still holding the drive (and my breath). Wow. I then took a Ghost image of the drive and it went through, without any error (just an NTFS warning at the beginning). Sometimes you need a bit of luck. B) One more to add to the freezer trick; "hit it hard".
  20. Have you read any bit of this thread before posting your advice? The disk "as it is now" is probably in a very different state from what it was 2 years ago.

    Vmware Lite XP

    ... too late.
  22. I wouldn't be surprised if a 16gig today needs less power than a 128Meg from 8 years ago. And probably less than a keyboard or a mouse (which you can plug together without problem). Personally, I have NEVER seen that "Hub Power exceeded" message.
  23. How original is the "original" ? Are you 100% sure it was the same error ?
  24. Came across Free HDD Led, it seems to be close to what you need.
  25. When a red comment says "Caution!" and "used by antivirus", and you remove it... things might get wrong at arrival. "File System Filter Manager" ?
