  1. You could use "layout.dll" (google it) after the icons are copied, if that helps.
  2. nLite is for personal use only, you agreed to that when installing it.
  3. I guess bootmagic is installed on 1st and Active partition before you install NT4 but then shifted to 2nd and not active partition after your NT4 install. Somehow when you configure it (you don't say "reinstall") it has to change something to be able to boot again (make that 2nd partition active ???).
  4. Don't forget nLite cannot be used in professional environement, you agree to that when installing it.
  5. What happened at that point ? And what exactly is written on the cd you start with ?
  6. I've only ever seen Partition Magic working on the fly (and for instance shrinking its own system partition). All other partitionning programs I've ever seen had to be ran "offline". Both programs I talked about are running under Linux, not MS OSs. It doesn't take much time to burn a 100Meg iso. Is this all for a "one shot" or are you planning to modify loads of drives ? Or is it just for the theory ?
  7. What about GPartEd or PartEd Magic ? Sometimes taking a Ghost image and reapplying it on a predefined (sizewize) partition is faster.
  8. Maybe MS has decided it was not useful. I't be easier to follow if you stick to the 3 operations "move", "extend" and "shrink" rather than using poetry like "move the right side to the left" or "the end of the partition gets pushed away deeper". I can't make tests, but I see that in diskpart, (option 2 point 5) selecting your extended partition, you could type "shrink querymax" and get the possible amount that can get taken off the partition. Does it report anything ?
  9. Download the portable version of Hardware32. Run it and read what your sound device is. Check the manufacturer's site to get XP drivers, if any.
  10. As you haven't ran nLite without any cab file, we are still not 100% sure that it comes from the cabs. Only 99%. Run nLite with only half of your cab files and if still same problem, run it with only the other half. So we get to 100%, and you can investigate the "bad" half with Geej method above.
  11. Is it possible that during the making of one of those cabs, you mistakenly inverted something and place a file from (/reference to) diskdefrag ?
  12. That doesn't make sense. Either you still have the CAB in the list (like in the ini file you pasted) or your "fresh" source is not fresh. You say you slipstreamed SP3, was that on a fresh source? I mean really fresh. I mean ORIGINAL, MICROSOFT disk. If not, your SP3 is not fresh either.
  13. 1st, this has no relation at all with this forum. There is no date on that article you link, I've seen many articles like that but I've seen even more people claiming it doesn't work. It might have worked before SP2 or SP3, not even sure. The whole idea of "activation" is that you don't transfer it. Activating takes few seconds anyway. And before you go on, please read forum rule 1a, the very first one.
  14. Can also be found in "Support Information" in Computer Properties (this might be linked to "OEM Branding" option, not sure).
  15. You don't need basic specs, weight, dimensions, you need to find out what the SATA controller is. Does post #2 not display on your screen ?
  16. Don't know if it will help but an updated version came out a week ago.

    XP 10 questions

I set all folders to "Details" (Tweaks/Explorer/Change Windows Explorer folder view) and even if I switch one to "Thumbnails" when running, it never changes the folder icon to the one you linked. So I'm not sure what problem you describe.
  18. How big are them partitions +their place on the disk ? I guess C: is now your XP system (and active). What do you see in D: ? If you set the WinRE as active and press F8 at start, you might get more options, that you probably would have had before you installed XP. Do you not have any DVD to reinstall ?
  19. Recovery process can depend on the make of the computer. This is one of the many missing basic info in your request. Please also read the forum rules and change your thread's title by editing the first post. You might have deleted the recovery partition by installing an other OS. Depends on what you did. What partitions do now you see in Disk Managements ?
  20. Maybe could help.
  21. You attached the wrong ini file (the one that only contains unattended settings). Please state what CD you start with, and what you do and in which order. The title might be misleading, this does not seem a problem coming from the USB installation.
  22. -your two first attempts show nLite working on SP2 with no SP integration, so you do not start from that same original SP3. -the 3rd shows SP3 indeed. What exactly is the original then (what's written on original media)?
  23. Read the big red message up your screen. Then when this post gets moved to the proper forum (don't open a new one) by a moderator, read the big red message up your screen again (it will be different). Yes clearly if it works with A but not with B, the problem is in the difference between A and B. What exactly is the original (label on the physical media)? Sorry, double post. Mods please delete thread.
  24. I read the 1st post as "new disk, free unpartitionned space". And indeed, 931 x 1024 x 1024 x1024 = ~1.000.000.000.000 bytes or more accurately, 1*10^12 / (2^30)= 931,323 Thus probably no hidden space/partition. The seller really should have known.
  25. Exactly, ... but your ini file says 1.4.5.
