  1. As I just reply in your other thread (the one with a title that describes your problem so much better than this one ), The group is blanked because it's a built in account and you can't change the group it's in. So either you rename the administrator as Gary or you create a user named Gary, put it in the administrators group (like XP's Out Of the Box Experience would do). Must have done it b4.

    Priorty*

You can't change group for built in accounts. The choice becomes available if you create a 3rd user.
  3. This is an view very few will share. A dead laptop is... a dead laptop.
  4. -Do you start with original MS-XP files ? -How big is the nLite temp directory before "iso stage" ? -Do you have enough room on the partition to add the (700Meg ?) iso ? -Do you create the iso outside the nLite temporary directory ? -when nLite stops...it freezes ? looks like it's done ? exits ? Is that when you click on "Make ISO" ?

    Functionality

You must realize it works for everybody else, don't you? Ever troubleshouted something on the base of "... it doesn't work" ? What about some info ? Error message, "freezes", "stops", etc
  6. First, if you plan to experiement wth your computer and have ro reinstall Windows a few times, you won't have to reinstall all the hotfix. Also when downloading the updates, they will all stay on your HDD, also adding a nice "uninstall folder" which is good for a few hundred megabytes alltogether.
  7. Search the nLite forum, Im sure this has been answered a few times (though long time ago).

    Image or DVD

Maybe trying to image a full DVD on a Fat32 partition ? Won't do if data is bigger than 4Gig.
  9. I've had IE freezing and crashing on flash sites as well on a few machines but those were not nLited. It was solved by reinstalling flash with the standalone installer. That one is quite hard to find on Adobe's site. There was also an uninstaller you could use first but some files were tough to delete. I've also had (unsolved) problems on Youtube with an addon (Macromedia_Flash_Player_IE.cab).
  10. Well, if you read the thread before posting, you probably expect the same answer: this has nothing to do with nLite.
  11. No. I think the point is that it is better to integrate SP2 to the original XP than on top of SP1. I hope you see what I mean. I'm not even sure there would be any difference.
  12. Only to add custom drivers and/or remove components or included drivers you can reuse the resulting files. For other changes, it is better to use original files and (if needed) last_session.ini as template.
  13. Must just be a display option. Try menus View / Arrange By /Current View / ->Messages. or reset the view: View / Arrange by / Custom/ Reset Current View.
  14. I think that and most the rest of your post is only valid for XP Home.

    Speed?

If the computer "is" slow (as in "because it's an old one), buy some RAM if applicable. If it's "slower than before", reinstall is often the easiest solution. If it's "slower than it should be and has always been", there is no easy solution. Kelsenellenelvian's post is a good start indeed.
  16. No. The copy of XP you use probably wouldn't accept that key on that machine at first.
  17. I said "show my ignorance" not "emphasize" . Thanks anyway. The difficulty, I guess, is to get all the profiles names.
  18. There's a "Back" button.
  19. Hello, Can someone please enlight me on this one ? How come such old threat as Smitfraud is not detected nor removed by the latest version of Antivir nor Spybot Search&Destroy ? (those were install after the infection, it is not my own PC). Is this a different type of malware ? Are there (loads of) similar cases ? (PS: It's now gone thanks to "Smitfraudfix"). Thanks.
  20. that'll teach me quoting you without giving credits Still that seemed confirmed by others in the rest of the thread ?
  21. Could try removing the display drivers in safe mode then not let it redetect after reboot ? (just an idea).
  22. Hi, here a chance for someone to show their skills and for me to show my ignorance in this domain. I guess it would be pretty easy if you know that stuff. How do you make a script that empties those two folders "\Local Settings\Temp" and "\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files" for all profiles and without confirmation deleting system files ? Profiles would be in D\:Data\ So for instance D:\data\Ponch\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files I have PCs with more than 20 profiles. THANKS ! I did search a bit.
  23. ICS cannot share a wireless connection, only wired. What if you set the desktop's gateway to 192.168.0.1 ?
  24. Yes, but... some things to consider: Your adsl comes through a modem, then to your computer either by USB or by Ethernet cable. -your USB will be limited to 12Mb/sec (still higher) -if Ethernet, you need an aditional network card. Any PCI card will be 100Mb/sec or more, ISA cards might still be 10Mb/s (still more than your adsl). If you use USB, you need to make sure that you can find the drivers for the modem for your OS. With your specifications, I guess you are running Windows98 or 2K (If you are running Windows95, you'll even need patching).
  25. From what I know, you can't keep "My Documents". Even with same user name, it's still a new user from a new Windows XP install.
