XtremeMaC replied to XtremeMaC's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media

Hi there I'm planning to get another hdd, so I was wondering if when I get a 8mb cache hdd and put it as slave (so windows won't be on this hdd) will I benefit from this 8mb cache or not or does it just work if the windows's on it? i'm planning to install my games on to that hdd. also I'll be having 3 hdd and 2 cdrom's, where could I get 80pin cables that has 5 ide support? (or what's the trick to work with 5 appliances?, is there such a thing?) (right now i've 2 ide cables both have 2 connectors on them, so 2x2=4 I need 5 ) ow I don't have sata ( thanks

finished installing my cd, i get blue screen
XtremeMaC replied to Adiel's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
strange but if u solved your problem thats great. i don't understand how the sp2.exe could be corrupt. it reports if u have a problem with the exe during the extraction. well it might be setup in a different way such that the extraction might be stopping when it finds a corrupt file. but it should report that. anyways.. its good to be not getting bsod's -
answer for the 1st one. Ms might not have changed or added any new blacklisted serial keys and they probably did not change their method of activation. so they didn't change or update the files which are for activation. so if u have sp1 and already cracked it sp2 won't ask for activation bc the activation files are not changed. but if that person integrates sp2 to his/her non-service packed cd, they might need a crack for it.

ok now since u're trying on virtual machines it cannot be a virus problem okay now after these I'm totally convinced that its just going to work fine with your real computer -
@aaron i'm sure u've made more setups that I did so i'm asking did u, in your installs with vpc choose "give full cpu or ram or whatever to vpc?" I think there was an option like that? (ps not calling u stupid or anything just wondering if u tried it or not, bc I didn't have the change to try that, i'm wondering if it actually speeds things up? or was that just give more cpu to the active virtual pc?) tnx

i usually, if I encounter problems like this, use alcohol to make an image of the cd in iso format then copy the files to the hdd. but that's the long way of doing things (well i do it bc i keep the iso image on the hdd as well..) so go with gamehead's choice. what wait. u said it copies the files but not the files under i386 folder? what? none of them? if none of them are copied its a bad burn.

i've noted 100mb disk space change in my iso from non-sp to sp2. u can manually look at sp2.exe (with winrar) or extract it completely and look for the files u've changed. I think it either doesn't modify the dosnet.inf or txtsetup.sif it either adds new stuff at the end (I doubt so). I mean if it was to overwrite the dosnet and txtsetup it probably wouldn't brag about the intel codecs that comes with sp1. (if u put sp2 on a sp1 cd u'll encounter a problem saying about 7 files related to intel codec is not found.) daa don't know anyways just extract the files from the WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe and cut and paste them to your non-sp i386 folder and do not overwrite the old files. after that the remained of files will be the changed ones. .....

xp sp2 crashing... video or sound related i think
XtremeMaC replied to substance12's topic in Windows XP

okay well i think if u could answer and follow my questions and advices we're going to get to the result sooner. as far as I see not so many ppl have a similar problem with the sp2 integration, u're either doing it wrong, or u have a problem with the hardware config. I dunno check your bios, check your rams, did u try installing sp2 on a working sp1 install? if so do u get the same error? which version of vpc or vmware are u running? is your xp cd oem? (like is it from dell or compaq or whatever?) is your xp legit? did u choose scsi interface on vpc or vmware? ok I'm running out of answers someone else pls take a look at the issue also go to MS newgroups and try posting it there, your blue screen error report states that there could be virus in your boot, so go to bios enable / disable the check bios for virus thingy. u can make a winpe cd or something similar and run a virus program or if u have a bootable virus program's cd u can try that.. are u trying this on vpc vmware or real pc? if u don't give answers to some question I'm going to ask them over and over again bc they are important in solving the matter! this real pc or vpc is important. well i used the guide I've given and tested both english and turkish versions of xp. they are working just fine in vmware and real pc's, since vmware and vpc put the same hardware in the test machines i would think that again either u're not configuring the virtual test machine properly or u're sp2 integration or your sp2.exe is faulty. if I had this problem on my machine and If i wanted sp2 i'd definitely dl the file again. I've dl from MS's IT version with flashget on a 256kbit dsl connection in no time. i think u can give it a try. what kind of connection do u have? can u dl it? -
hi there I'm planning on getting an lcd and i'm going back and forth with these 2 displays from samsung 193t and 192n only difference they have is 193t has a dual interface (which means digital input) now does the latest graphics card have both analog and dvi? is the technology going to change to dvi completely? there is $70 difference in price. (but with the tax the price goes above!) (yes I know the difference is the same with or without the tax) if I go with the analog one will I be able to use it in 2 years or more? Thanks

XtremeMaC replied to Adiel's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
i doubt there is any problems with the file, it verifies during the extraction. but if u want u can dl it from MS. (the IT version) try the guide I've given above. well okay 1 other thing, maybe u're hdd has bad sectors? I doubt but still any brands u know of your components? (maybe some of them have known solutions?) I would have contacted MS by now -

XtremeMaC replied to Adiel's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
okay did u try just making a sp2 cd? without any reg tweaks and programs etc..? do u have a non-sp, xp original cd? if so make sp2 with that. what kind of hardware do u have? which brands? and maybe try this guide to make an sp2 cd, http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=295 I mean other then this its really hopeless. did u check for viruses? (boot virus?) -
could also be a bad ram or a ram that is not properly attached. take the video card and ram out and put them back again.

have u removed any files from the original cd? is it sp2? what else did u do to the cd? ?? ?? ?? -
well okay the latest game copy protections are not working on external devices so if u have your doom disc 1 on external u've like to way of passing that screen i don't think firmware is releated with this though firmware updates are always good. well if it all fails u are going to need a no-cd patch.

when was the last time u checked for spyware and virus? what kind of running processes do u have?
