  1. windows XP X64 Edition
  2. sorry i forgot to mention i need to make sure that the ram i get is in 2GB sticks as i want 8GB in my board. The Price difference Between 2gig in a single stick of different speeds is quite substantial
  3. Im getting the Universal abit IP35 PRO motherboard and the Quad Core Q6600. Do you think i would notice much difference between DDR2 667 and DDR2 800 then? since both of you recommended that
  4. Hi all, pretty soon im replacing my aging P4 with a quad core and at the moment i have 2GB of DDR400 Ram. Im going to replace this with 8GB of DDR2 5400 Ram. however the motherboard supports the fastest DDR2 memory available. So my question is will using the slower memory (DDR2 5400) give me an noticable difference performance wise? the fastest DDR2 is so much more expensive than the slower. i will be encoding videos. running virtual pcs, playing videos, pretty taxing stuff. Any thoughts? thanks a lot
  5. ok on the second pc do you have the first pc as the default gateway?
  6. oh yeah lol didnt even read your post, god **** sorry mate it was early morning when i posted lol
  7. when you enable ICS does it give out an address in the 192.168.0.x range? as far as i remember your second pc will get an address like that and the first pc will have a second interface of some sort created in network connections with a similar address. do an ipconfig/all on them both and see what address's they have and try basic stuff like pinging between them by names and IP and so and see if you can narrow the problem down:) thanks
  8. with that router it only needs to be plugged into the computer to configure it, after its configured you can stay connected with a cable or go wireless, its up to you
  9. is this installation altered in anyway? such as with nlite or manually? thanks
  10. just so everyone knows that "support guy" would have just disabled native SATA mode in the BIOS to get XP to install sucessfully.
  11. yeah but (sorry to oppose you here GSM ) using the runas command means the password is in plain text. what i think he really needs is a vb script that scans the network for hosts and if they exist copy the files to \\hostname\c$\windows\system32 that way he can just run it from a server with admin rights
  12. im not familiar with hamachi but i know of it. if the connection has a FQDN then im sure you can pay thawte or verisign ect to issue u with a certificate, however why would you need a signed over a self signed? both are as secure just one is not as trusted
  13. i notice that the path you are using is H:\ can you run it from the C drive? and see if that helps?
  14. yeah you really would need a layer 3 switch to stop this, i wonder if smoothwall can perform similar functions?
  15. Ok Cluberti, sorry to go on, but from those CLSID's mentioned in the windowsupdate.log you knew that they were those 2 paticular dcom components? or is there a reference somewhere that i can look to? thanks P.S cucolinwin let us know how your getting on with it
  16. the only thing i can think of is do you have any apps that run on this server that could possibly do anything like that?
  17. Cluberti, how did you know that those 2 dcom components need those rights?
  18. what happens if you download the distributable package and run that? same thing?
  19. i know its stupid and basic but have you tried rebooting the server, checking all of the services are running and then trying it again? p.s also temporarily disable Antivirus too might be a good idea thanks
  20. if the local users have the level of access you could import this into the registry silently in the logon script
  21. firstly i would connect back to back with the server with a crossover to eliminate the network as the cause. If that doesnt work then post back
  22. i just bought a dual psu adapter from performance-pcs.com and they shipped to me and im in the uk
  23. try doing the exact same thing in safe mode with networking and see what happens then maybe you can narrow the cause of the problem down a little
  24. excellent!, thanks for the help guys
  25. thanks for that, i know all about that and how to create my own. The thing is i really do not wanna go down the DIY route as the pc i will be implementing this in is on 24/7/365 and i am worried it could become a fire hazard. thanks though
