Just run this from a command prompt... shutdown -i It will give you a GUI shutdown program. Input the computer name to shutdown and there you go.

Oh... that was another thing... On my way home the engine on my new car seized... But the good news is that the dealership is going to replace it for me. It's not a "new" car. It's a 93 Toyota Celica GT. But, I am without it for a couple days while they take care of that. I can always rely on my Chevy Truck though! (that sounded a little redneck, didn't it?)

Well, what I think happened is that the power went out and when the UPS went (it wasn't configured properly to shut down the system) it corrupted a bunch of files... What a pain.

I fixed it!!!! Finally! Only 8 hours after I started. 20 minutes before the staff arrives and goes about normal business. ****, I'm good! (I only said that to make myself laught... It's been a long night... and I have 8 more hours ahead of me now.)

If someone built it, someone will tear it apart... when will you all learn this? I don't care if it's UNIX, Linux, Windows, IE, Firefox, Opera, {insert your program here} Someone will always find a way to get to it... Don't be so naive.

If you did not purchase the software with MANY licenses, then it's not volume licensing. I'm assuming if you don't know then you didn't purchase it. Volume licensing is for corporations, not home users. You can't buy one license in a volume licensing model.

OK. So I bought a new car today (not NEW, but new to me...) and I was out cruising when I got a call from our CEO. "Don... The power at the office went out and now the server won't boot." OK... great! So, I head to the office and YEP! It won't boot. Go figure. During startup shortly after the Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition logo screen pops up, BSOD! So, I start by seeing if it's possible that since the drives are mirrored, maybe I can rebuild one of them with the other... I do a concistency check... no luck. So, I reboot to the system console and run CHKDSK... After about 2 hours of waiting, I'm in! The only problem... IIS isn't working Service errors out the a**! So here I am... 2:36 in the morning... running a backup on the system (it's a new system and we hadn't set up backup options on it yet... stupid me!) so I can uninstall IIS and reinstall. So.. Wish me luck! I'll keep you all updated.

Maybe you missed the most recent news story in the Seattle Times about this... http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/busi...security17.html Maybe you didn't read this news story either... about how Apple has been selling old equipment as new, deliberately shortening warranty periods, and breaching confidentiality. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/02/18/ap...ustomers_legal/ I know that Microsoft alone was not responsible for the PC industry... but I will say that they are responsible for moving it along faster than any other company.

I can't believe this is one of your biggest complaints. I already told you how to fix this. Right click on My Documents and put it there. What's wrong with it there anyways? -
Not mine... Unless that little "Designed for Windows Mobile" logo is just for show Running Windows Mobile 2003 SE here and wouldn't have it any other way. That's why the top 5 out of the top 10 most secure servers are running Windows Server 2003... I'll see if I can dig up that report. Do you think Chevy had an original idea when they decided to make a car? No, Ford was the first... Then there we many others that just made them BETTER. Gates made Xerox's "Windows" BETTER. You can't assume you know the whole truth because you have watched the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley." The Linux and apple world don't call themselves "PCs" so technically... Yes, he is what made PCs what they are today. Do you think that almost every american household (can't speak for other countries) would have a PC in their house if Windows didn't exist? NO.

Here's the link if you wish to help out too... http://www.msfn.org/donate.htm

OK. Have been comming to this website for about 2 years now and finally I decided I had to do my part... Sure, I have donated in the form of posts and such, but I wanted to donate to those who work so hard on this site and spend their own money to keep it going. I ran a site and I know it's not cheap. It's expensive to host, and it takes a lot of otherwise personal time. Even after the pay out for banner ads, it just doesn't cover it all. So, I followed a link in one of the mods signatures to donate. It wasn't a whole lot, but I felt it would help. I was surprised to hear back from one of the "staff" that it was only the 2nd donation in 8 months. Come on everyone... I know the site is free, but maybe you can find it in your budgets to throw a dollar or two their way. They work so hard keeping this site going. I know I would hate to see this site ever go away.

I agree very much with your statement, but it is completely configurable... That's the greatest thing about it. -
I got my phone today! This thing is soo kewl. This thing is all voice automated. Other phones I had in the past could call someone by saying their name.. but you had to record their name and it would compare them. This phone is not like that. It processes your voice without having to record anything. You can call someone, launch applications, look up names and information about contacts, all by saying voice commands. It's awesome! The 1.3 MP camera on it has good quality. I'll have to snap a couple pics and show you all. My initial impression of this phone is that it's amazing. I'm sure over time I will find little things I don't like. Come to think of it, I don't like the menu system... If you press Start and want to go to the next menu you have to press 9... but Start is at the top of the phone and 9 is at the bottom. It's a long trip for your thumb. little complaint, right? This thing plays video. It's so neat. I can do all of my contact information in Outlook 2003 and when I plug my phone into my computer it automatically syncs calendar stuff, contacts, tasks and e-mail. It's a PDA without a touch screen basically. I love this phone!

If you buy it with hardware, you can purchase an OEM copy for about $80-100 easy.. If you buy it retail it's almost $200 -
Yeah... it's true. It's a killer phone... Well, I went ahead and did it. I bought my new cell phone today. I bought the Motorola MPx220. In case you aren't aware of what that is... http://www.motorola.com/mdirect/hellomoto/.../homepage.shtml I also bought my fiance a Motorola V551 I figured while I was at it I would pick up an HS850. http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?art=819 It's the upgrade from the HS810. It hasn't officially been released by Motorola, but it's starting to pop up all over. I can't wait! I am supposed to get my new phone tomorrow. I almost talked myself into purchasing the Motorola MPx300... but I found it hard justifying the cost... but I almost did anyways... Just thought I would share with you all... later!

The OS is made to work for everyone... If there's a tool on it you don't need, then don't use it! Windows XP can be bought for right around $250. Preimere is nearly $800 (I believe, last time I checked) If an OS allows you to enjoy your time on your PC, and you use it for lets say 4 years, is it not worth the ~$63 you pay a year for it? If you are too cheap to dedicate $63 a year to the one item in your life that you find enjoyment using, be it play games or surf the web... then switch to Linux... -

Amen. Imagine if they "dumbed down" the space shuttle... or neclear physics... You want dumbed down, use Windows Movie Maker... -

Then tell me how I was able to view a DivX source that I ripped, edit clips in DivX, and export my final works in DivX? I think there were just a lot of people who just couldn't figure it out. Premiere isn't meant for newbies. The software is in no way impossible to use. Once you know what everything does it's very easy to use. You can't really dumb down professional level linear editing software... -

Learning curve isn't reason enough to label something as "bad." It's Professional grade software. I have 5 years experience with it, so this isn't an issue with me. You are absolutely, 100% WRONG on this one. I edited DivX and exported DivX nearly 3 years ago using Premiere 5.5, then 6.0 and 6.5... I didn't say Windows 98 had problems with it... I simply said that Windows 98 was more prone to crashing. No, that ALWAYS how Windows handles memory spaces... now not always did it cause a full system crash, but that's how it handles it's memory... -

It's not half the product that Adobe Premiere is. -
Yeah, the Motorola MPx300 is not listed anywhere on Motorola's site... but that's not uncommon. The MPx220 wasn't listed until a couple weeks ago, and it had been out for a few months.
