Free domains? Like .info?
Daemonforce replied to Mikep7779's topic in Web Development (HTML, Java, PHP, ASP, XML, etc.)
I use DynDNS for domains right now. I don't know about .info but I use .homeftp.net as a suffix. I like it. Soon I'll buy a .net domain. -
Usually that sort of thing is dependent on the keyboard. Do you have a JP keyboard or do you just want to type Japanese characters? I use a character map for that.

*subscribed* I've been interested in repackaging operating systems like XP and 2003 in WIM form. I want to know if anyone has found a method of doing this with no problems.
-
I'm already concerned about how hotfix integration will exist in Vista and it isn't even out yet. I'm guessing the integration of service packs is out of the question.
-
It must really be important. Someone is trying to deny you service of your account. Wait for 15 minutes.
-
I really don't care. I have two 5400RPM disks to run images from. I have a 7200RPM drive with a 16MB cache that I run the vmdisk from. Vista runs like s*** on the host and if anything I notice an increase in performance when it's in a vm. Other than that, Vista is an unsupported piece of crap. I can't do anything on it. I would like to see what we had at PDC03 minus memory flaws. That's what we really need. In the 4xxx releases, there was no upgrade option. This is why I do not use it. Not now. Not ever.
-
I advise against ever hitting upgrade on an NT 6 installation. I always do a clean installation. Once more, I always install in a virtual machine. All the alphas and betas have been crap. I don't even mess with them any more because they're just depressing. Do what you want. =/

2000 Pro client allow Remote desktop access
Daemonforce replied to Ryman's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
From what I've experienced, this isn't even a problem. I'd like to know how to deny remote access to a Win2K box. -
**** IPB for eating my messages.... What were the last three characters in the PID of your SETUPP.INI? Usually you want those to stay the same that you had in the original or else your key won't work. Worse yet I have seen some OEM builds sold with an OEM disc and the key listed on the COA won't work with the installation. The ones that do have a problem after slipstreaming. This really p***es me off and is why I only do volume installations. I have to deal with too much crap to be playing licensing games. Especially since I'm the OS deployment guy. One more thing! A key you enter within Windows to perform an installation that will not be accepted after doing a slipstream will often work if you reboot the computer and boot the CD instead. That is my situation.

I went with Testking. But I had some experience of actually messing with Windows Server 2003 since it was in the .NET stages. Just mess with it in a virtual machine.

x64 WindowsXP OR x64 Windows Vista
Daemonforce replied to Angelico_Payne's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
*manufactures 64-Bit machine and 64-Bit Windows .NET OS* *introduces a new technology that raises Win32 API standards* *watches Windows .NET get lost faster than Schrodinger's cat* Even if you do know what you're doing, it's granted that you'll eventually run into a problem. Eventually said problem will create a revolution in Win32 standards and turn current day material into absolute garbage without the new tools. This is one of the several reasons I don't want to go back to Windows 2000 or anything before it. -
You need to install your audio drivers! Ya foo!

x64 WindowsXP OR x64 Windows Vista
Daemonforce replied to Angelico_Payne's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Correct. It's also worth noting the sudden introduction to .NET back in 2002 didn't exactly help either. I know of several people to this day that struggle with a compatibility issue between a portable Win32 and a Win32 with .NET code. At least the 64-Bit Microsoft operating systems are .NET-based. -
Xp Professional/Media Center/TabletPC is needed to install IIS and host from your local network. It's another reason I went to Pro besides the ability to join a domain. Ultimately, it's pointless to do this on a domain because the DC will likely be running a newer and stable version of IIS that your workstation OS will not support. Some of my friends are working on a plan to get IIS to install on XP Home. I think the whole project is stupid since a home OS shouldn't be used as a server in the first place.

Feather Linux? Berlios...... Holy ****! This is bizarre! Why isn't Deep-View integrated into this project? Does this guy actually do requests for custom operating systems or something? I'll have to try this. So far my favorite distribution from this place is Deep Water.
-
You will love Damn Small Linux. Slax is usually a pocket disc distribution. DSL can fit on a business card. Also, I blame the default XMMS settings in DSL for my sudden addiction to sky.fm radio.

I hate Windows 2000 both as a workstation and as a server. Windows Server 2003 runs circles around what Windows 2000 is capable of and I use it for that reason. I would NEVER install Windows 2000 on the main server without a hardware firewall anymore. It's just an invitation to all kinds of problems. I'll probably be using Vista if something critical goes wrong with the NT 5 platform to the point where networking is a bigger disaster than 2000.

HOW can I change the name of startnet.cmd in WINDOWS PE
Daemonforce replied to Robell_Liu's topic in Windows PE
Does Winpeshl now support calling more than one program? If I make a Winpeshl.ini then Startnet never starts. I decided to work around this by putting the information through a shell swapper(which winpeshl just so happens to call:lol: ). I know it's wrong to rely on it but I find it incredibly useful. -
I just boot PHLAK and run nmap. It's as simple as that.

HOW can I change the name of startnet.cmd in WINDOWS PE
Daemonforce replied to Robell_Liu's topic in Windows PE
It's a bit hard to understand you. As a last resort, I used to hex edit some entries in Winpeshl to accomplish this. I don't do that anymore. I have Winpeshl call a shell swapper and I start networking from there. -
How-to identify Windows flavor (Home/Pro - OEM, Retail, VLK, etc)?
Daemonforce replied to Dumpy Dooby's topic in Windows XP
How about just ask? That drive is of better use in the computer it was installed in since the OS will most likely load from it and nothing else at this point. OS flavor has always been a problem for me to determine. As for operating system, I could just boot PE and look at a file like winlogon for details. If you really want to know the type, C:\Windows\System32\$winnt$.inf might give a clue. But the only thing I'm able to determine from it is workstation or server. You want the specific flavor and that could be a problem because home and professional are identical except for the ability to join a domain. As for the product's installation type...That's easy. Boot PE and open the system hive. \Setup\PID gives you the info. Also, you can determine the exact product type with this. I have 76487000 in mine. This means XP Media Center Retail. Some machines in the lab have 69713270. This means Server 2003 Volume. A LOT of machines in the lab have 55274270 which means XP Professional Volume. I think you get the idea. You need to get a PID list. Next time just boot WinPE on the dead system. It's easier and it saves you a big headache. =/ -
OMGWTFBBQ! After 7 month I finally got the Ximage tool to work! o_O Now I can figure out exactly what I need to do when preparing VistaPE. I see the annoyance that you mean by no deletions though. Perhaps there's a good reason behind it.
-
I have never been able to get that piece of crap to work! I'm guessing I need 5308 but it's still odd that users messing with Ximage can successfully mount and rip data from a 5219 WIM.
-
I have Vista 5219. How the hell did you get it working? o_O I tried extracting and rebuilding it. That proved to be futile.

Uhmmm....No. I use Lightning Download. I like how it downloads files because I can download a bit of an image...Stop it after it gets fairly large and do a read-hack on the file structure in ISO Buster to find if it's the image I need. I do this because I'm a dialup user and I've been looking for ways to make boot images. I never have a problem with Internet Explorer when downloading files and I've never had any critical problem with Lightning Download. Just beware of partially downloading a file and doing a reinstall. That's a problem.
