I'm Luke. No my father isn't on here. o_O

I kill the index service along with several others following a fresh installation. Yeah you better ♥ Longhorn. It's one of the best flavors of NT6 there is. Vista killed this feeling forever. O_o *pokes the entire thread* *stabs Vista* **** the repository. It's a complete waste for all end users. I don't see what the devs need with it either since I'm a dev. O_o Maybe it's for hardware. I have gone so far as booting PE and deleting the entire repository and THAT helped. For any annoyances besides these, you're out of luck.

I use a similar method on my XP Pro workstations and especially the server. Click start. Drag My Computer to the very top of the screen and depress the mouse button. Get rid of the title and BAM! That's my quicklaunch. O_o Ctrl and Alt keys help me greatly.

I'm not sure if you're trying to set the default user profiles to a network drive or make network drive connection upon logon. The first can be done with an unattend file but the rest I'm not sure of. It sounds like something where you should stick to using the user management console.

Like the original deal is any better... While my server isn't too great at handling queries from this box immediately after a forced load from the server, it's really my fault for using legacy hardware, a crossover cable...ICS... But I'm lazy. =/

In order to run Vista 5xxx builds "efficiently" you need a 15000 RPM SCSI drive to boot from. Even then it's like moving files between two 5400RPM drives on a machine powered by some 500MHz Celeron. I suggest you just stop using Vista until the builds reach 6xxx.

I find this problem to be frequent lately. You sometimes need more than admin access to do tasks on a machine. Usually rebooting into safe mode with command prompt is enough. If not, you need to login as system. Boot WinPE on the machine giving you registry problems and load the problematic hive in %Windows%\System32\Config.

It is for this reason I have actually considered forcing a slipstreamed SP6 into NT4 by overwriting old files, injecting new files into txtsetup and dosnet but it still doesn't take. For once I don't know why. Anyone trying to do this too, don't do it. Also, an onboard unattend file (WINNT.SIF) still crashes unattended setups.

Driver filename case issue
Daemonforce replied to Ausmith1's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Nevermind...You fixed it. o.O -
JUST figuring this out makes you look like a dumb admin(along with millions of others). It happened a lot more often than you would think let alone believe. =/ My suggestion to you is before ever doing anything like that ever again you install SP6(you didn't have it installed did you?). Right now I don't know why you need to boot the system. If it were me at the console I would boot the computer with WinPE. If you have encryption(God forbid), use Knoppix to move stuff over the network. What kind of information do you need to recover that is so critical that you need to boot NT4?

The problem I see with this thread are the words Vista and Dell. Vista is a beta. Dell is an OEM I really want to stay away from because they rape their hardware to the point where only specific software and hardware will work. Trying to get the two to work is really an accomplishment. I can't believe you actually had the balls to do that. If your current config is giving you any serious problems, just go back to XP.

Gripe gripe gripe...o_O It doesn't bother me. I was able to install Longhorn on a box powered by a 300MHz AMDK6-2 and 128MB ram. Vista was a time-eater when I installed it to my P4. Other than that, it's not a serious problem right now.

I look at that and wonder if I'm looking at the most horrible war IE has gotten through or the IE that the dumbest user on Earth is working with. Either way it's still sad because the user most likely got raped in the middle of a drive-by download. It's funny outside of the workplace and nowhere else.

[Help] Blank DVD that contains data but appears blank in XP
Daemonforce replied to KamiQuazi's topic in Windows XP
Wow...It's like looking into the past. o.o I'm just curious...What kind of machine did you use to burn the movie and what format is this disc burned as? -
It's an upgrade disc? o.O

I have two. One workstation powered by an Intel 3.00E. One server powered by an AMD K6-2/400. The server handles network loads and I use a crossover cable to connect the two boxes. A KVM switch is handy too. I can use two computers at the same time!

Mine is a step up from several names. In summary, it went from Daemon to Daemonforce. It kind of gives you a clue how easy every situation is to me and how far I've gotten. The last name was a horrible inside joke to Draxx the necromancer because I seemed to bring dead hardware back to life after "killing" everything else connected. o_O Other than that it's nothing special. I'll eventually get bored and become a gimmick poster if I decide to make a new name, but I don't have the slightest idea what it will be or what would urge me to do such a thing.

In that case you'll want to do what I'm doing and go with Windows PE. =/ I came here a few months ago when I finally got a copy of Vista Beta 2. The write filter defeats the purpose of using a RAMdisk, so I've already defeated 4-6 of BartPE's workarounds(with XPE). I like building it from the ground up so that I have more control over it and can alter it in any way I desire without it being a pain. Sometimes quick changes are just needed. I've never gotten that kind of functionality from BartPE. Although I must say booting from a flash drive is quite impressive. If you want something done right, you usually have to do it yourself.

Yes. Rumor has it that you can make a BartPE from the nLite'd MiniXP floating around the Internet. Absolutely no addons but it could get through the Preinstallation stage fairly quickly. I've seen it before and it acts like a Win2K clone(errors and all). I'll say it here...If you have the files that allow Windows XP/LH to get through the MiniNT stage, it can be made. I stay away from BartPE for commercial purposes and I build Windows PE with little to no help. The first time I built it was with Longhorn. Since then I've had a general idea on what to piece together.
