How to edit registry so that it doesn't need to restart before ins
submix8c replied to Gibbs's topic in Windows XP
OK, glad you got IE8 back, but the above totally confuses me.1 - Did you EDIT the WINNT.SIF file before the Burn (you said the reverse). 2 - Did you slipstream MediaPlayer 11 according to instructions? No way did it revert to 10 if you originally had 11! 3 - What "updates" are you talking about? Slipstream would have taken care of that if you slipped ALL of the -X- Updates + IE8 + MP11 + SP3. 4 - Downloaded the Install File? I thought you already HAD it downloaded (along with the Hotfixes) and SLIPSTREAMED it! 5 - "Needs" to Restart... IF you slipped EVERYTHING as per instructions then the ONLY other thing I can think that's causing that is a corrupted "Automatic Update" C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Downloadand you still have a "pending reboot" due to it. You DID follow the instructions exactly, didn't you? The only OTHER way of Full Slipstream is to - 1 - Manually Slip SP3. 2 - Use MP11 Integrator independently and slip MP11+Hotfixes. 3 - Use IE8 AddOn + nLite (removing/replacing as instructed) to do the remainder. (sigh...) I guess I could test the scenario just to see what the problem might be. I also notice you (said) you previously "Slipstreamed" OTHER software! Did you RE-slipstream these or are you referring to a PREVIOUS slipstream install? Did you use a CLEAN Source (required)?BTW, you DEFINITELY need to Restart after the Repair! Also, the preferred (IMHO) method of "Repair" is to do the Alternative Method (run setup from inside Windows, NOT boot from CD). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 Go to "Let me fix it myself" and SKIP Step#11 (you SHOULD already have that Slipstreamed). BE CAREFUL and follow instructions TO THE LETTER or you could be a goner! Side question - WHAT is the EXACT message you get? Post#14 Above states differently...AND... a REAL silly! Go to Start->Run-> and enter: msoobe /a to see if you're "activated". -

Ow! Forum Rule 2.e.... OK, so contribute in a more acceptable way! No big deal... FWIW, I linked to the website for the "non-Themed" version. Hmmm... Picture Attachment says the "ads" were removed. As I said, contribute (maybe with coding snippets/assistance?) so maybe MSFN will get that "exclusive" version. -

submix8c replied to Gibbs's topic in Windows XP
The only point of the "fully integrated" CD is to have everything totally up-to-date as-of -X- Hotfix list. IE8 and MP9 are considered "Updates" as opposed to Hotfixes and only necessary if the offending PC has been bolloxed (like yours). IOW, since the PC "Taste" only has MP9, then SP3 would put that into the Integration (part of SP3) and the Original MediaPlayer Hotix "CAB" files from -X- would stand (as he noted in his post). Note that you MUST use the SAME ORIGINAL (i.e. unaltered) VERSION as is on the PC in question - you can't use XP Pro Retail on an XP Home OEM (regardless of SP-level). If need be, I (or someone else) will link you to specific topic posts to clarify. WARNING! If any of the PC's are OEM, then special consideration is necessary (certain files, keys via KeyFinder, etc.) to allow for AutoActivate. COA key is different from the Internal OEM Key. This is a touchy subject BUT if in doubt, ask regarding a SPECIFIC PC. ALSO PLEASE NOTE!!! nLite has a EULA (license.txt) that states it CANNOT be used for ANY Commercial Purpose AT ALL, so if you're referring to a "work" PC, I'd steer clear of using it except in an emergency case (e.g. recovery MAYBE?). Here is the License - Notice that the stipulation "generally" means you can't use it for (e.g.) loading up PC's.Your best bet on the "TASTE" one would be to use the Install CD, ensure that it does NOT have IE7/IE8 installed (and any fixes) and do a Repair that way. AND since you mentioned MoBo Swap, that COULD get you into HAL/Driver trouble. Let's deal with your PC first and make a new Topic for "Taste", OK??? Side note - Commercial PC's can be "fixed" (whatever) by manually integrating without using nLite. We could help with that as necessary. nLite as an EXAMPLE of how-to is not out of the question (AFAIK). -

You might wait for any testers/comments. If I get around to it I might. There ARE others here that do website stuff (I have a minimal personal one). You might put a Topic(s) also in the - http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/37-web-development-html-java-php-asp-xml-etc/ http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/4-websites-and-boards/ BUT you might contact an Administrator, Moderator, or Developer to see if its appropriate since it is a "tool". Look at the bottom of the main Board page and simply click on any of those (color-coded) and ask. Otherwise, sit tight and see if it gets noticed. You probably have a better chance of it being seen here as to Neowin. I believe the oldies here are more "geekie". As far as "spammy", it's all good AFAICT. You might also read the rules to acquaint yourself with them (link at top of every page). As long as you software (noting you have other) is "free" and you make no attempt to "sell" a product, service, etc, you're fine ALTHOUGH you may discuss it but do NOT attempt promotions (search for posts by member "rloew" as examples). We are quite strict about our rules. Welcome to MSFN! And I hope that we can help you out in any of your endeavors (we have a few coders here too). -

So, this is yours? http://www.softoxi.com/codeit-html-editor.html http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/WEB-Design/HTML-Editors/Codeit-HTML-Editor.shtml And this is yours too? http://www.softpedia.com/developer/Benjamin-Simpson-62835.html And this is you (Benjamin Simpson)? (nope - Wordpress has gone bye-bye) Older version on RyanVM? http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9121&sid=cd74bfd598c4adcb24f7c5068c47231c Neowin also - http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1016758-codeit-html-editornet-114-neowin-edition/ So, what you're saying is that you have Themed the version found here? http://limemaster92.byethost15.com/2/tag/codeit-html-editor-net/ http://www.benjamin-simpson.co.nr/ Could you elaborate, Benjamin? Perhaps list MSFN-specific "Features" and Screenshots? Found by google "codeit html editor" Almost seems "spammy", but I can't see where it crosses any MSFN Rules lines. -

DUDE! No offense, but you've ignored both my instructions and the links I gave. Post #2 - Link to MichaelStevens (asked "this way"?) <-via Boot to CD - Link to -X- files and instructions, which includes: -- The link to the IE8 Addon Creator -- The download of the X-Files Downloader -- The Fix files to get for IE8 and which ones to REMOVE -- Links to the Fix Files to get for WMP11 - Link to nLite Screenshots (-X-) - A POTENTIAL fix for ALL THREE PROBLEMS -- WMP11 -- MS Updates -- IE7/IE8 Of the three POTENTIAL fixes, you NEVER said whether you eve TRIED them and the Results Post #5 - nLite FAQ - Link to SP3 (if you needed it) also (as I said) linked via -X- and FAQ - Link to nLite Website/Download - List of MP11 Hotfixes you need (did NOT include KB952069) Post #7 - Link to IE8 Base Installer - Link to MP11 Base Installer Post #11 - Instructions (Complete) - Link to MP11Integrator (which you went ELSEWHERE to get ) - Link to MichaelStevens via "Upgrade" From Run From Running Windows (alternate method) - Link to "How to allow for Recovery/Repair during nLite" In Post #13, -X- reiterated do NOT download KB952069 and why NOT use it. In Post #22 you AGAIN reference the "other" link to the MP11 Integrator. As I said in Post #11 Step #5 put it in the nLite folder. Also, as I stated in Post #5 Meaning nLite will DETECT the Integrator and run it at the appropriate time!See this (Post #6) - You are making this WAY too complicated! @tomasz86 - the OP wishes to RETAIN everything on the CURRENT failing XP rather than "wipe and start over". @Gibbs - Just get ALL items listed in ALL of the Posts given and follow MY instructions - and DO read the nLite FAQ and look the Screenshots in the Link I gave. Here's some additional assistance on nLite - Go there and download the nLite Reference an look through that as well. Basically, you Point to the CD, select Integrate SP and Integrate HF then proceed according to those wonderful screenshots, the FAQ, and the Reference (just linked), as well as the Link to REMOVE the Unattended section of the WINNT.SIF during nLite run BEFORE it creates the ISO. The ONLY thing lacking at this point would be your Drivers, which will STILL be in your Running XP after the Over-The-Top/Upgrade Repair Install (see the MichaelStevens links). -

1 - Download the -X- UDC file, extract somewhere, and run it 2 - MOVE the IE6 Hotfixes listed in -X- instructions and the MediaPlayer CABS I indicated to "elsewhere" 3 - Download the IE8 AddOn Creator (on -X- website) somewhere and extract somewhere else 4 - Using the IE8 Installer and the listed THREE IE8 Hotfixes (they need downloaded), run the IE8 AddOn Creator. This will produce the IE8 AddOn 5 - Download the WMP11 Integrator somewhere and COPY it into the nLite folder 6 - Have the SP3 Installer available somewhere 7 - Run nLite, selecting the SP2 CD 8 - Select Integrate Service Pack and Hotfixes 9 - Point to the SP3 file 10 - Point to and select ALL Hotfixes in the -X- Folder - NOTE: do NOT have the original UDC.ZIP file in it!!! 11 - Point to the Generated IE8 Add-On 12 - Point to the MP11 Installer and the Hotfixes I indicated (you need to find and download them) 13 - Let nLite do its thing - it DOES create an ISO - BURN that DONE! Everything properly integrated. Do NOT use ANY other files from ANYWHERE or the Integration will BREAK! I have done this and I assure you it DOES work. Do NOT select ANY other option in nLite at ALL!!! Including ANY "Unattended". There is a certain setting that will BREAK Recovery Console (can't remember which), but other than that it DOES work! Note: All files (EXE including CAB AddOns) except the SP3 are "inserted" in the Hotfix box. Side note: nLite "cleans up" the SP3 integration. EDIT!!!! See this - http://www.nliteos.com/faq.html#Q19 You MUST set this to have the Repair Options when booting from CD, otherwise, you SHOULD be able to run the burned CD as an "over-the-top" Install. see that link I gave on "how-to", particularly this (basically) an "Upgrade" - http://michaelstevenstech.com/xp_in_place_upgrade.htm EDIT2 - ARGGG!!! It's the Unattended section in WINNT.SIF. How to remove during nLite execution (before ISO creation) READ IT! -

submix8c replied to Gibbs's topic in Windows XP
Um.... seriously - use the ORIGINAL CD, start from scratch, use the IE8 Add-On Creator indicated, the WMP11 Integrator, along with both IE8 and WMP11 Installers and the associated Hotfixes. Using RyanVM (anything) along with nLite may not produce what you expected. nLite does NOT "find" anything on the internet and it's UNSAFE to mix/match this stuff! You should follow OUR instructions! You MUST start from scratch and use JUST what is listed above to succeed. Otherwise, we can't help you. RVM Updates may or may NOT successfully work. That's the reason you were given the instructions above. Situation is similar to NOT mixing 98SESP3 and any OTHER method of updating Windows 98SE. Things "break". nLite ALTERS many INF files and can NOT alter them IF they are ALREADY altered - things break. -

??? NO! Why would you rename them? Use that IE8 AddOn Creator to CREATE the Addon with the files. Rename NOTHING! I think you're confused - THIS says to download the Add-On Creator and use it along WITH the IE8 Installer AND the 3 Hotfixes listed - do this in a SEPARATE folder than -X- Downloader. The resultant Add-On output will be used when RUNNING nLite via "Hotfixes" tab. IE8 Installer is here - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43 Have you downloaded nLite yet? (see screenshots link I gave). Media Player 11 here - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8163 Hotfixes for MP11 - Google the KBxxxxx along with "XP" to get the links for them. -

In addition, what do you mean by "Yes, I've rebooted the system several times. I have found nothing that doesn't work, except for installing IE8, SP3, MP11 and so on."? You specifically stated in the first post "After doing a repair install of my Windows XP PRO /SP3...". This implies (together) that the ORIGINAL CD does NOT contain SP3. Please look here (nLite FAQ) and read some. Be aware of what the requirements are for nLite as far as a source. Also be aware that IF this is an OEM with SP2 CD source that PROBABLY any alterations done by the OEM will be overlaid with SP3 during Service Pack integration via nLite. In addition, using an OEM SP2 source will UNDOUBTEDLY eliminate the usage of many other OEM files (e.g. Drivers) and POTENTIALLY certain files in a (possibly) existing I386\SVCPACK folder may cause problems. HOWEVER, certain workarounds exist to eliminate the "extra" files you may have in the end result. Side notes: You'll need 7-Zip (free) to unzip the IE8 Add-On Creator. Google it, get it, and install it. Don't forget the WMP11 Integrator... For WMP11 - after running the -X- Downloader, MOVE any "WindowsXP-WindowsMedia-KBxxxxxxx-x86-ENU.cab" files to "elsewhere" (they are for MP9) and get the OFFICIAL MediaPlayer11 Installer and Hotfix files: wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe WindowsXP-WindowsMedia-KB954155-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-WindowsMedia-KB973540-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-WindowsMedia-KB975558-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-WindowsMedia-KB978695-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-WindowsMedia-KB2378111-x86-ENU.exe Use the above with the Integrator. I've been led to believe that IF you put the Integrator in the nLite folder that it will AUTOMATICALLY use the Integrator for the above files. Service Pack 3 (in case you need it?) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24 Curiosity Question, have you tried the three "solutions" I provided? Final note - there is a way out of this with the nLite method and -X- Hotfix Downloader (directly from the source). I guess you must have noticed that it's a SMALL package (no Hotfix files inside)? edit - using the WHOLE -X- Downloader is unnecessary IF you don't desire all of the hotfixes installed BUT you may as well since you already have a bolloxed install. BUT you should AT MINIMUM integrate SP3, MP11, and IE8 (all without any of the Hotfixes) according to the instructions. They will become a permanent part of the generated Install. edit2 - DOH! The FAQ lists SP3 Link and -X- link as well. Here is nLite - http://www.nliteos.com/ edit3 - BE AWARE that IE8 is an (generated) ADD-ON!!!! Add-Ons are added as if they are Hotfixes in nLite. In addition, the above MP9 I indicated to NOT use are ADD-ONS's as well (in addition to the OTHER CAB files generated from the -X- Downloader). -

submix8c replied to Gibbs's topic in Windows XP
Let me get this straight... you did a Repair Install and did NOT reboot afterwards? Bad juju! You MUST do that so it can "clean" itself as the Repair Install WILL overlay ALL previous files found within the XPSP3 CD's I386 folder. Did you do it this way? Also note the "In Place Upgrade" link. In either case, you have to revalidate (WGA). Please note that IE8 and WMP11 may still reside within Add/Remove Programs. I note that you have posted here as well and now see the problem you're having. Try the Slipstream using nLite to slipstream EVERYTHING including IE8 using the list and instructions here and find the WMP11 Slipstreamer. For the WMP11 Slipstreamer, Google these things individually "media player 11" slipstreamer "media player 11" slipstreamer site:msfn.org Note that you CAN slipstream WMP11 FIRST using the Slipstreamer (along with the appropriate Hotfixes) and THEN use nLite with the above -X- files/instructions and be fully up-to-date (by using the generated CD for the Repair). Of course you WON'T be able to uninstall anything "slipstreamed" after slipstreaming. nLite Screenshots. Do NOT do any Tweaking at ALL (use all Defaults)! Only Fixes and the IE8/WMP11! You may, if you wish, add your Drivers. edit - I have no clue as to whether this will work (for WMP11 - click "spoiler") - Fixing MS Updates (also unsure - is this what you used?) - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 Fixing IE7/IE8 (also unsure) - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917964 -
Hmmm... let me guess Windows ME was the other one? Be aware of terminology - Windows 9x means Windows 95 (any version)/98/98SE, not to be confused with the entirely different Windows ME which is NOT necessarily a Windows 9x. Windows ME is a "cross-breed" precursor to Windows XP. IOW, Most Win9x Drivers work on WinME and some (only some) do NOT and require SPECIFIC WinME Drives (found that out the hard way some time ago with an nVidia AGP card). Just to clarify for anyone else.

I get THIS in FF with the DIRECT link - http://download.oracle.com/errors/download-fail-1505220.html IF I use the Download PAGE link given and ACCEPT the Agreement (after enabling Java) I get THIS as the URL (mistaken - NOT the Referrer field) the FlashGet (FlashGot Plugin) gives THIS and it DOES work (see the AuthParam at the end?) - http://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/java/jdk/6u43-b01/jre-6u43-windows-x64.exe?AuthParam=1362500143_daf9f756f3b90ae8001637dfb9285b94 IOW, you MUST accept the Agreement to be Authorized. It has nothing to do with "browser sniffing". edit - ARG!!! I take that back! FG is getting "403 Forbidden". Has to do it within the Browser (see the first link about Cookies). Just downloaded both Java6. Going for the Java7 now. Done! (sigh...) NOTE: in FF11 and an x86 OS (as I had previously said)...

Good enough then. B) edit - Maybe an alternative was to disable PnP OS in the BIOS (set to "No" or whatever)... Stops BIOS from "feeding" the Install what the BIOS wants to give. -
@jaclaz - I guess their point is that it can't be directly downloaded WITHOUT accepting the license agreement as you'll notice (when I use Flashget) you need a Referrer to be filled out or it just doesn't work. Using you link and the link within after accepting will fill the field in Flashget and allow the download otherwise the direct link is rejected due to "agreement not yet accepted". Just an oddity - not sure what effect that would have on (e.g.) WGET...

I repeat... You know, there was a REASON for asking that. Did you notice the "checkmark" next to "Use Automatic Settings"??? There is OBVIOUSLY a CONFLICT in the Settings between the two and you want to disable ACPI Shutdown? Try answering my question - you specifically stated OK in WinME... -
HTH means "Hope This Helps" Also look here - don't know if it would help/work (first link - DriverMagician). http://grandstreamdreams.blogspot.com/2007/05/backing-up-windows-system-drivers.html Still looking... AHA!!! Found the "JerMAR" one "WinDrivers Backup" last FREE for Personal Version on Wayback. http://web.archive.org/web/20021209051207/http://www.jermar.com/wdrvbck.htm Try that one.

You COULD try looking in the WINDOWS\INF and/or WINDOWS\INF\OTHER folder(s) for anything OEM.INF (OTHER will be ALL "inf" files regardless of name) then inspect the contents for any/all filenames inside and collect them. You can also look at the Device Manager for the Names of Hardware and also look in the Registry under "HKLM\Enum\PCI" for the names and VEN/DEV info (the main thing to use to search for when needing drivers). You could also try Unknown Device Identifier - http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html HTH edit - Just an FYI - This program places a shortcut to their website on your User Desktop. It can safely be deleted. Just discovered this yesterday by using a Standalone version. AFAICT, it does nothing else "fishy" (hex-edited to confirm). It WILL redirect you to the same website if you select "backup drivers" to get you to download their "My Drivers" program. (see my next post for a better alternative). IOW, use THIS just to find/list Devices in a similar fashion as Everest software might.

What values show in Windows ME? Same exact values? -
Found this gem on the WWW - ============== Picard: "Mr. LaForge, have you had any success with your attempts at finding a weakness in the Borg? And Mr. Data, have you been able to access their command pathways?" Geordi: "Yes, Captain. In fact, we found the answer by searching through our archives on late Twentieth-century computing technology." Geordi presses a key, and a logo appears on the computer screen. Riker looks puzzled. "What the hell is 'Microsoft'?" Data turns to answer. "Allow me to explain. We will send this program, for some reason called 'Windows', through the Borg command pathways. Once inside their root command unit, it will begin consuming system resources at an unstoppable rate." Picard: "But the Borg have the ability to adapt. Won't they alter their processing systems to increase their storage capacity?" Data: "Yes, Captain. But when 'Windows' detects this, it creates a new version of itself known as an 'upgrade'. The use of resources increases exponentially with each iteration. The Borg will not be able to adapt quickly enough. Eventually all of their processing ability will be taken over and none will be available for their normal operational functions." Picard: "Excellent work. This is even better than that 'unsolvable geometric shape' idea." ... 15 Minutes Later ... Data: "Captain, We have successfully installed the 'Windows' in the command unit and as expected it immediately consumed 85% of all resources. We however have not received any confirmation of the expected 'upgrade'." Geordi: "Our scanners have picked up an increase in Borg storage and CPU capacity to compensate, but we still have no indication of an 'upgrade' to compensate for their increase." Picard: "Data, scan the history banks again and determine if their is something we have missed." Data: "Sir, I believe their is a reason for the failure in the 'upgrade'. Appearently the Borg have circumvented that part of the plan by not sending in their registration cards." Riker: "Captain we have no choice. Requesting permission to begin emergency escape sequence 3F ..." Geordi, excited: "Wait, Captain I just detected their CPU capacity has suddenly dropped to 0%!" Picard: "Data, what does your scanners show?" Data: "Appearently the Borg have found the internal 'Windows' module named 'Solitaire' and it has used up all the CPU capacity." Picard: "Lets wait and see how long this 'solitaire' can reduce their functionality." ... Two Hours Pass ... Riker: "Geordi whats the status on the Borg?" Geordi: "As expected the Borg are attempting to re-engineer to compensate for increased CPU and storage demands, but each time they successfully increase resources I have setup our closest deep space monitor beacon to transmit more 'windows' modules from something called the 'Microsoft fun-pack'." Picard: "How much time will that buy us?" Data: "Current Borg solution rates allow me to predicate an interest time span of 6 more hours." Geordi: "Captain, another vessel has entered our sector." Picard: "Identify." Data: "It appears to have markings very similar to the 'Microsoft' logo." Over the speakers: "THIS IS ADMIRAL BILL GATES OF THE MICROSOFT FLAGSHIP MONOPOLY. WE HAVE POSITIVE CONFIRMATION OF UNREGISTERED SOFTWARE IN THIS SECTOR. SURRENDER ALL ASSETS AND WE CAN AVOID ANY TROUBLE. YOU HAVE 10 SECONDS" Data: "The alien ship has just opened its forward hatches and released thousands of humanoid shaped objects." Picard: "Magnify forward viewer on the alien craft." Riker: "Good God captain! Those are humans floating straight toward the Borg ship with no life support suits! How can they survive the tortures of deep space?" Data: "I don't believe that those are humans sir, if you will look closer I believe you will see that they are carrying something recognized by twenty-first century man as doe skin leather briefcases, and wearing Armani suits." Riker and Pichard together horrified: "Lawyers!!" Geordi: "It can't be. All the Lawyers were rounded up and sent hurtling into the sun in 2017 during the Great Awakening." Data: "True, but appearently some must have survived." Riker: "They have surrounded the Borg ship and are covering it with all types of papers." Data: "I believe that is known in ancient venacular as 'red tape' it often proves fatal." Riker: "They're tearing the Borg to pieces!" Picard: "Turn off the monitors. I can't stand to watch, not even the Borg deserve that!"

I agree on the Updates thing. Hold out for what you think it's worth or just keep it (IMHO). I can/could get $125 out of my non-Upgraded E521.

Why on a running system? New WGA (DPCDLL/PIDGEN) files (AFAIK). MS intentionally blocked it due to piracy. Also, Windows Update REFUSES to install "Express" ANYTHING until you get up to at minimum SP1/1a. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-hardware/i-cant-update-my-reloaded-xp-pro-to-sp3-without/37edb005-c9ac-45a7-a576-2adeb7904e3e FYI - Difference between SP1 and SP1a is JUST Java removal. AFAICR, SP2/SP3 does not remove Java (remember the Lawsuit?). (maybe THAT is the reason? )

Ummm... Forget Beta - does the OTHER one work? Why do you want Beta? Is it better or something? Sorry, I don't get your point. You asked, I replied. Work or not? Rationale for above post?
