  1. well, i was mainly replying to the creator of the thread who states he gets a BSOD... since you replied, i think you'll find there is, you just don't know how to see it... as the computer is booting up, press the F8 key and you should get a Startup Menu with things like SAFE MODE, etc, etc. In that list, there should be DISBALE AUTOMATIC RESTART ON SYSTEM FAILURE or similar, select that, then it will show the BSOD instead of just restarting...
  2. Is it possible to have concurrent logins with Vista??? specifically Home Premium??? i remember there was a hack with XP to do it... anyone have any ideas? i like being able to Remote Desktop into my HTPC to do stuff while the TV is running, etc...
  3. what version of Vista are you using??? ie, Beta, RC, RTM or full (which you shouldn't have ) many of the older versions of Vista would not work when installed on a SATA drive which is using a RAID controller, even if you are not using RAID... and can you actually give us the error code on the BSOD, they put them there for a reason...
  4. if you want to run the WinME Setup, you need to make CD SHELL run a dos boot disk and do it that way... i have WinME, 98SE, 2000, XP + Multible boot disks on my DVD...
  5. I WORKED IT OUT!!!! well, for me anyway... the issue was using the CDIMAGE.EXE file to compile the ISO image... i follow the instructions here http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windo...stream.asp#nero to use NERO (using the loader.bin file instead of the Microsoft Corp.img file) to burn it without creating an ISO... obviously that website isn't talking about multiboot disks, but its the same process for the burning and adding the boot loader for it...
  6. i don't have any other bootable DVDs to try...UBCD and Acronis True Image work fine...they are burnt on cheapo media and are covered in scratches, etc...
  7. yeah i get the "press any key", but not when i get the error message... like i said...i tried el cheapo disks and i tried TDK's, both do the same on the LG/ASUS drives, work fine on Pioneer LiteOn, etc... i might try a smaller one, but i don't think that has anything to do with it... and i work in a retail computer store as a tech...i've tried on every kind of computer we have...can be indentical systems, just different DVD drive... but i'll have a look at CD shell too, see if anyone there has an idea...i think i remember them having a forum...
  8. Ok, i've made myself a MultiBoot DVD with XP home, Pro, MCE, winMe, 98se, 2000, memtest, etc, etc... all works great...EXCEPT, when i try to boot a machine using an LG or ASUS DVD Drive...when i do, i get ERROR : CANNOT BOOT FROM CD/DVD [...................] or something similar...on other drives such as LiteOn and Pioneer, no problemo! now, i have tried burning the DVD on an LG and Pioneer Drive, using both el cheapo and also TDK DVD's...all give the exact same problem... so, i looks like it might have something to do with the bootsector on the DVD... does that sound right??? i followed Flyakite's Multiboot Guide.... any ideas????
  9. huh??? wat do you want??? are you talking about AUTOPATCHER????????????????????????
  10. Media Center is just a program that runs in the Windows XP Pro environment...except for a few extra services... if you go into device manager, does it show up AT ALL???
  11. here are MS's recomendations CPU: 1.6GHz without software encoding and 3.0GHz with software encoding HDD: 60GB + RAM: 512MB GPU RAM: 128MB DDR Recordable DVD Drive Broadband Ready even so, he has a supported video card, so the menu should look fine...he might have issues trying to watch/record digital tv, but it should look ok...
  12. have you installed the AMD Driver from the AMD website??? i have seem people with Dual Cores that need to install that driver before the system works properly...
  13. he might be refering to the program AUTOPATCHER... as, there is a WinXP version, but not a MCE version... thats all i can think of....
  14. it won't work... its like asking "why won't my tv turn on when i press the power button on my vcr remote"...the are programmed for mce to pick up... the channel buttons on the mce remote are trainable, so you can make it learn the channel buttons from the set top box...but then you can't use them to change channels in mce... well, as far as i am aware, i use a DVICO DUAL TUNER CARD...not a STB and you can't close it using the remote the way it comes, i have heard of people doing it with the help of 3rd party programs...
  15. XP MCE comes with DX9.0c installed, as it has the WinXP SP2 included in it.... not sure about the audio problem...what EXACTLY happens???
  16. Ok, its a very common occurance for me to have to format a hdd, or delete the partitions on it...without needing to create a new partition... is there a way to make a boot floppy that will run fdisk with some kind of switch on it, to delete all the partitions on the primary master hdd??? its annoying having to either boot into windows with it as a slave or boot from the WinXP CD and delete it that way... or, does anyone know of a better way????
  17. Thanks..i didn't know about that FAQ...am making a new ISO to test with as i type... i'll let u know!
  18. Ok, i've created a multi-boot DVD with WinXP Home on it. when i do the unattended install, the $OEM$ directory does not get copied accross...everything else works fine, i have got all the updates in and MOST of the information that setup needs... now, i just need it to create a username (using OOBEINFO) and also install some of the OEMINFO stuff... but, it just doesn't copy accross
  19. SOrry for the title...its a little hard to explain... You know when you go into a program, like MS WORD and click on open. You then get a Browse Window Up. On the left of the Window there are 5 shortcuts like MY COMPUTER, MY DOCS, MY NETWORK PLACES, etc... How do you change them...like, i never use MY NETWORK PLACES, i would like to change that to my default DOwnload Directory... i know you can do it, cause i saw it on CALL FOR HELP (in Leo i trust!!!) but it was ages ago, and i can't find the info again...
  20. From the sounds of it, i don't think he can get into windows... also, boot into the recover console, and make sure it finds your copy of windows...ie, it should give you a list of all the copies of windows it finds and ask you to choose between then, and then it will ask you for the ADMIN password... if that DOESN'T happen, then your MBR is corrupted and you need to do some messing around to get it working... if you need help, you can PM me, i've had to do that before...
  21. Has anyone done this??? i just tried, and firstly got a "Can not acess registry entry" type error, then i clicked IGNORE...it then said that setup could not continue and did a roll back... its weird, cause the 1.1 Framework goes in without a problem....
  22. @druiddk, thats the one! @Shamwari...hmm, thats a little too complicated for me me thinks...but thanks anyway...
