  2. Don't hate me Bashrat Up to version 8.53.13 http://www.marvell.com/drivers/upload/yk51x86_v85313.zip
  3. Make sure Sereby is made aware of that change if you decide to do it.
  4. Actually, the tests I've shown show that 7200RPM laptop drives draw roughly the same if not less power as their 5400RPM counterparts. This can be attributed to the fact that the read heads get physically get to the data faster, which means less energy wasted seeking.
  5. It works . I bit the bullet and tried it myself this morning and I'm posting from it now!
  6. I honestly think AGEIA will be bought up by either ATI or nVidia in the future. I'd much rather see PhysX as an extra chip on a video card rather than a seperate $250 add-in card personally.
  7. The only laptops I'm aware of which use SATA are the new Intel 945-based Core Solo/Duo laptops. I have no idea if there are any Turion-based laptops out there which use SATA drives, though I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.
  8. As big poppa pump alluded to, it updates the onboard Si3114R5 BIOS from version 5.2.09 to version 5.3.14
  9. Most definitely the higher RPM drive. The bigger question, however, is what interface your laptop actually supports. My guess is that if you're upgrading an older one, SATA is out the question anyway
  10. Why not just use a conductive pen to connect the points? http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.as...hreadid=1847758

  12. I recently decided to learn how CBROM works for updating individual pieces of a BIOS. To do that, I decided to modify the most recent BIOS release from MSI for the K8N Neo4 Platinum with Si3114R5 BIOS version 5.3.14 (from v5.2.09 which comes with it originally). Anyway, I don't have a BIOS savior, so I have no good way of recovering my system should I have screwed something up. While I don't think I did screw anything up, I'm obviously apprehensive about finding out . So, are there any brave souls out there with a Neo4 Platinum who want to give this BIOS a shot? If you do, let me know how it goes <link dead, see below>
  13. lol, good stuff (not that I'd have any experience with any of that stuff being a married man myself )
  14. Reminds of the joke from the Boondock Saints (if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about)
  15. Actually, $hf_mig$ serves an entirely different purpose than you think. The KB article below should explain everything you need to know. http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Bes%3B824994&x=9&y=11
  16. I killed him and dumped his body in the Atlantic.
  17. You know, if you compress the files and figure out the registry entries to add, you're like 90% of the way to creating an Update Pack
  18. Well, you still have the disadvantage of the files sitting uncompressed in i386 using way more space than they should.
  19. I think somebody made a thread in my forum about it once upon a time, but that's as far as it's gone. But hey, somebody's got to start one And yes, the EXE still does need to be run when using /integrate, or else no registry entries will be properly created and I can guarantee you that Windows Update will pitch a fit on at least a few of them (like the IE cumulative update).
  20. Having had the recently displeasure of working on a machine with only 56K, that can be a HUGE advantage (and time saver!).
