Hmmm ... I won't have time to check this out for a week or so, but I have a few ideas what could be causing problems (both XPCREATE and XP Setup installing the same module?). Bump this topic in about 10 days to remind me, and I'll check it out.
-
It should go "as is", i.e. NOT extracted.
-
@varoot: Hmmmm ... Not good. I know you are trying to help, but modifying the code is something you agreed not to do upon XPCREATE installation, and is also something that I am dead against ... I pinned the topic discussing my reasons, so I won't repeat myself here. I know you mean good, but it is really wrong. Still ... Welcome to MSFN! @PhillTheChill: Thanks for testing that. I've not had a chance to test it myself yet, but my inderstanding was that that should be OK. It installs the patch with the /QN switch. If this does not work (and all indications are that it DOES), I will make the necessary modifications for the next release. If you really need to install something "different", just wrap it in a self-extractor (e.g. WinRAR, WinZIP, IExpress), set it to not require switches, and place it in SVC-EXE.
-
I know ... that has been corrected in the next release. Since there is a work-around, I am not making a "special update". Still, thanks for pointing it out, and thanks for your thanks! Or should that read, "You are welcome" ...

Eh bien ... CA MARCHE! Welcome to MSFN, Pgase!
-
Thanks, Skyfrog. Obviously, I'm showing off my ignorance once again! Assuming you are correct, I would say that should work fine for sparhawk's requirements. The only thing lost by not having WINNT.SIF in two parts is that a bit more info will need to be entered in installations without the diskette. Still that is minimal, and much can be entered with a simple return. ... Thinking about it now, if the floppy WINNT.SIF overrides the CD WINNT.SIF, then we could just include a generic WINNT.SIF on the CD, and a custom, complete WINNT.SIF on a floppy. Bottom line: there should be an easy and acceptable solution. I cannot test this week, but if you, sparhawk, have time, see if that works for you.

I looked at one pre-SP2 box, and it wasn't showing the MM 2.1 download ... Anyone else see it?

Welcome to MSFN, convict, even if you've been here a while! First, I've never had any luck integrating Office. That is to say, having it install during the setup process. I install it upon first reboot, using the RunOnceEx registy key method. For that, there is plenty of information on the Unattended Forum. Second, XPCREATE has no provisions for a multi-CD install. That is not to say that it cannot be done, just that it is beyond XPCREATEs scope. Again, if so much is being installed that a second CD is needed, it is probably after the first reboot, so check out some of the 2 CD threads in the unattended forum. Adding all the applications to an unattended installation is so specific to each user that I decided not to even tackle that objective. I just try to produce an up to date Windows Installation, and send users on their way to the Unattended Forum, where all these subjects are discussed in detail. Things like a 2 CD install seemed like such a bother to me, that I just went out and bought a DVD burner. It's all a question of how much you value your time, but 10 hours saved at 10 dollars an hour ... I figured it payed for itself pretty quickly.

Thanks, Bilou. I saw that article, and then looked on Windows Update, as suggested. No luck there, or even in Windows Update Catalog. Strange ... Part of the reason I only support the latest updates: in this case SP2.
-
Actually, I don't have the link yet. It is supposed to be available from Windows Update. One would have to monitor the network to see where that file is coming from. So ... if someone finds it, please share!
-
Actually, if one has standard info, and the other user-definable info, why not just merge them, and only use the floppy version? That said, to use the floppy WINNT.SIF, XP Setup needs to be started with command line parameters, e..g. a network or DOS based install. Again, there are always work-arounds. I would be more tempted to create a CD for each installation, which could be used for subsequent installations, after the user has once again fubared everything.
-
Hmmm ... sounds kinda vague ... any specific issues?
-
Never tried ... but if you want to be the first, I would suggest placing the update (SP1) in SVC-MSX, and DotNet in SVC-X2M, as ussual. This will allow XPCREATE to integrate both without the need for creating self-extractor files. If you simply have an installer that can be run with no switches, place it in SVC-EXE. Let us know how it works out.
-
**** ... Right you are: they have removed the links, and now MM2.1 is "only" available via Windows Update. If anyone finds the direct download link before me (from Microsoft), please feel free to post it!
-
With so many you would be best of either setting up your own server/hotfix list, or just downloading what you need once, and setting DLAUTO=NO.
-
Yes, you will need to download them all yourself, and set DLAUTO=NO. There is the last SP1 list attached to one of the more recent threads in this forum. EDIT:: There are a few recent posts that will show you haw to put that list on your PC, or your own server, and then XPCREATE will download them from that list. Do note that the latest list I made is no longer "up to date", but it should not be missing too much. Sorry to not be of more help, but I make XPCREATE to work with either the most current fixes, or user supplied fixes. It is much too much work to keep both up to date. Good luck, and ... Welcome to MSFN!

Oh well ... I guess everyone would like a free lunch. See you at the beach!

Basic DOS programming help
GreenMachine replied to Thauzar's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
But ... there is no "delayed execution of a command" ... -
Surprise, surprise! Current Hotfixes has been updated on the site! Hiya Wraith!
-
Thanks, StephenC, right you are! Welcome to MSFN, okipouros! !) Right. 2) XPCREATE takes care of the rest. There is plenty of reading on TXTSETUP.SIF. 3) Set the value for the drivers path in WINNT.SIF. Again, plenty of reading elsewhere .... 4) See 3 ... Most importantly, read the two links StephenC provided.
-
Welcome to MSFN, tylerman! Because this is your first post, I'll forgive you. However ... neither the thread title nor your post gave me enough information to get me to click on the link, so I really have no idea what you are talking about. Without trying to be condensending, I would highly recommend reading this: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html In fact, I recommend it for everyone!
-
XPCREATE does not include any drivers for integration. It will recognize certain drivers if added correctly to the FILESCD directory, and all information is in the pertinent Sytem Information files. The Web Site does have instructions.
-
I believe that is MY list. Still, this really should be enough to show you how to make a list: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=139066. Get the files through Windows Update, or similar. Test till you are satified with your collection, and then run the program MAKELIST to ... make the list. You will need to find the URLs on your own. Perhaps a network traffic monitor will help.
-
You CAN create it! http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=139066
