[Question] [solved] Command-line to put Windows into standby ?
Camarade_Tux replied to Camarade_Tux's topic in Windows XP
I found some nice infos. First of all, a documentation entitled "Windows Native Processor Performance Control": http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/7...e%20Control.doc Then, this page on msdn which is an index in fact : http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default...._management.asp And especially : http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default...._policy_str.asp I think this should help people understand power schemes keys in the registry (the ultra-long BINARY one). But if you know of somebody who already described those keys, I'll just be happy with that. -
[Question] [solved] Command-line to put Windows into standby ?
Camarade_Tux replied to Camarade_Tux's topic in Windows XP
What annoys me with MS's way is it will go into the deepest state available : if hibernation is available it will go into it and not in simple standby. Since Task Manager lets you choose between Standby and Hibernation, I'll try with hacked rundll32.exe and if I can't find (which is in fact likely) I'll use psShutdown. Thanks. -
[Question] [solved] Command-line to put Windows into standby ?
Camarade_Tux replied to Camarade_Tux's topic in Windows XP
Thanks a lot and sorry, about the tagging. Btw, I would have tried a hacked rundll32.exe from http://www.p-nand-q.com (exact link : http://www.p-nand-q.com/download/rundll32.html ). And it would have probably shown me the correct command. However this tool needs a dll that is not present under XP but that's a minor annoyance. Anyway, thank you. And if I don't post again in a few seconds, it's probably this worked. -
Hi, I use Windows on a laptop PC with Litestep as a shell. I'd like to add an entry to my custom menus to be able to put it into standby. However, I've not been able to find the proper command to execute, shutdown.exe does not do the trick. Does anyone know ? Thanks a lot. Thanks, EXPRESS I personnaly use AHK for such purposes. Since I've forgotten something in AHK, I'll only post a full script tonight. Or, if you only want the thing to cancel downloads : you need the title of the initial download dialog. Then, it should look like WinWait, the_title_of_the_window WinMinimize, the_title_of_the_window And the thing I forgot is the "loop" part. It is also possible to wait for a few seconds before cancelling. Thus, users should be able to download small files but not bigger ones. I'll also check if it is possible to filter according to file extensions. But this one is also maybe possible use regedit. And last, on "blocking" it is possible to have a ballon-tip. In a few words, I'll try to make a "proof-of-concept" script before going to bed but right now, I have to work.

XN resource editor : http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d10resourceeditor.htm Open-source, it used to be too simple but it is now a nice tool. Moreover, I'm pretty sure the author will be happy to make his tool 64-bit compatible if you give him this nice documentation.

If you know what are the names of the apps they shouldn't run, you can lock them. I think I have something like that at school. Or, you can have a white-list too. Or, you can use an app that will close or reduce to taskbar non-wanted apps or windows. You can do that to prevent any download from the internet : cancel will be sent to each download dialog. Last, you can forbid any ActiveX to install. As for the difference between power users and Admins, I have no idea. Except that I dound an interesting page: http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2006/05/p...ower-users.html and so on.

Your desktop screenshots show "Windows 2000 Professional". Btw what is lsass's exact use ? (about to kill this process and see how things goes ) And I always wondered why I would need RPC service. It's only utility has maybe something to do with Terminal Server. :? "mouse-aimers" <-- LOL I think you coined a new phrase there and i like it! I know little about embedded stuff, but it appears that DE would be good candidate for embedded applications, no? If i understand this correctly, DE is basically a collection of scripts that are run when? Before or after installation? Can you provide a summery of what is removed? As far as I understood, he uses nLite, own removals, and some scripts that run at startup to kill processes.

Maybe you should try with CDIMAGE : http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/15/ I'm not sure but it is maybe possible to put cdimage.exe next to mkisofs in nlite dir and use cdimage. Not sure, but possible. And do you have any really long path in your iso ? There's directory depth limit on isos afaik.

--hide-bootcatalog or --hide-catalog, can't remember. Check if these parameters are present at the last stage of nLite.

Thanks it works now. And this page has a lot of cool wallpapers. Also DM2 looks interesting, I'll give it a shot asap.

@DigeratiPrime, HTTP 403 when trying to access your wallpaper. And what did you use for your transparency ?

The faster, the louder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Power_Management But better pages: http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-use...uly/095988.html http://forum.mandrivaclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=48218 http://augart.com/thinkpad600/hard-drive-s...wn-timeout.html You can set your hard drive to be faster but you will get more noise, more heat, more power consumption. In most cases drives are configured not to be too noisy. Thus they are not as fast as they could. You can change this in Windows with some utils or directly in your BIOS.
-
silly! that makes the whole machine run twice as fast, not just the HD I was lied to! Isn't the best way to speedup a computer to use the newest version of Windows ? Now I understand why computers in Europe are faster, they run natively at 220V! And if you want to speed-up your HD, take a look at Acoustic and Power Management.

XFCE.

What do you mean here? HFSlip tells you you need modifype.exe in HFTOOLS and then quits. Then you have 3 new empty folders. It doesn't harm, it just looks a bit dirty. :/ IMHO, should be
-
I never had that dialog at Runonce! You must have added something.
-
Btw, HFSlip creates SOURCESS, HFS, and a third folder before checking modifype.exe is present. And then it quits without deleting them. The check should happen earlier in the script.

Not much. You would also need to change drvindex.inf. Imho you should get more support for NIC, pro hardware and less for things such as Webcams and gaming things. To be sure, compare both drvindex.inf.

[REQUEST] Vista Trasformation Pack 4
Camarade_Tux replied to SonWolve's topic in Application Add-Ons
Transformation pack are much more than reshacking icons : boot screens, visual themes, shutdown/loggoff/logon screen, window blinds, docks, ... But "(basically, a CMD script that extract the files, then reshack them, then re-cab them should be enough)" is correct. Don't try to slipstream a transformation pack when the provided installer doesn't support such things : I did it, it takes ages to do, you never have every feature and you may even have bugs. -
Camarade_Tux, I believe that ggf31416 is correct in that 7za.exe support significantly fewer formats than 7z.exe. In fact, when I first added 7-zip to Universal Extractor, I started with 7za. However, I couldn't get it to work with many of the supposedly supported formats, which eventually led me to using 7z.exe with all of the DLLs. Indeed, in fact 7za only supports 4 formats (written in 7zip's help).

You could stop new imeshs by blocking request to the bootstrap servers. But this will only stop NEW clients. If you have access to the computers inside your network, you can uninstall them. If they are installed again they won't download anything. Block : imesh.com, *.imesh.com, fm*.imesh.com, fm2.imesh.com (thinking of a way to stop already running imesh clients)

Nice! In Irfanview, you can choose the compression method for TIFF. Default is none. When using it to acquire from your scanner, on the right side of the "Save As" field, click on "Options". Right now, you can still recompress your file using this method.

Hi, there is a quick tutorial here : http://www.kalytta.com/wihu.manual.php Also you should take a look at the install.ini which is present in the zip file you downloaded. It contains lots of examples. Last this app is useful to create install.ini files easily. Have fun. PS: try to run "wihu.exe /?" if you want a list af available switches.

Actually, it -is- possible: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2249 Still not nLite's fault that the easy way fails though. This is not a good idea imho. Why does this installer not install at T-12/T-13? The check is maybe to prevent installation at T-39 but I just think it's taking risks for nothing.
