1. I just realized I had posted in the wrong thread to become a beta tester. Allow me to post this in the proper place: I would love to get in on the beta testing. I'm still using an ancient single-core 32-bit processor (to be precise: Athlon XP 2600+). It's a sluggish little fella, but it gets by. I'd enjoy throwing some XPize 5 at it. edit- I couldn't get logged into my old Codeplex account. I couldn't remember my name, password, nor the e-mail I used to sign up. Here is my new one: http://www.codeplex.com/site/users/view/dumpydooby
2. Awesome. I would love to get in on the beta testing. I'm still using an ancient single-core 32-bit processor (to be precise: Athlon XP 2600+). It's a sluggish little fella, but it gets by. I'd enjoy throwing some XPize 5 at it.
3. I would think that it would make more sense to use the locale codes for language selection. So 1033 would be English. Just a thought.
4. Well to start, if you take a look at v7.x and v8.x micro releases on updatepack.nl, you'll notice that none files in the installer are UPX compressed. The reason for this is the "Shannon Limit" (see link in my previous post for further reading). It's the same reason why an MP3 doesn't compress very much, however, a text file of the same size might have an enormous compression rate. Compressed files, no matter the degree of compression, don't compress well a second time. You can test this yourself. Take your Nero.exe file (or any file that can be UPX compressed) and UPX compress it, and then try sending it to your favorite archiving program (e.g., 7zip) with the highest compression rate settings. Then do the same thing without UPX compression. I can guarantee you that the one without UPX compression will yield a smaller archive size. Your installer might have a method for UPX compressing files post-install.
5. Removing UPX compression (if any; see Shannon Limit) and all runtimes (they are usually installed separately; just say, "requires such and such") is a good way to reduce installer size. That's my suggestion for shrinking it if you haven't done that already.
6. I got another request, though I'm not sure about its feasibility. The 7zip SFX module that is used around these parts is actually a modified SFX module (as I'm sure everyone knows), but what a lot of people miss are its command line parameters. Specifically, one such parameter is -sfxconfig, which outputs the SFX config.txt file. The problem, though, is that if this switch is used on a 7zip SFX archive that did not use this modified module, then the SFX will run normally. Can UniExtract create a controlled environment to automatically close down the extraction process if this happens? To be more specific, I would like the following feature to be added: When a 7zip SFX archive is extracted, I would like for the SFX config.txt file to spat out as, much in the same way that NSIS config files are spat out when you extract one such package. http://7zsfx.solta.ru/en/switches.html#sfxconfig
7. Gonna download this. I'm hoping to compress it down even more. Too big for my taste.
8. doitrightconsulting.net/ Register on the forums, and then check out RogueSpear's "Releases" subforum.
9. I posted an updated version of this on Wincert. Mine includes an uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs as well. So if you want to download it and import the reg entries to uninstall it, go ahead.
10. I'm kidding. The excitement of the upcoming version 5 has me all giddy like a school girl. I've been an avid user of Xpize since its inception. I've tried other resource replacement packs, and none of them manage to cut the mustard. This one is, hands down, the best. I'm just a lowly fan checking in to say thanks to you fine folks that have taken on the task of continuing this project. Thanks a bunch fellas. Looking forward to the next release.
11. Oh Jesus. That's what Windows 7 looks like? I hate this floating-content-on-negative-space-with-glossy-glass-and-abstract-background trend. When will it end? It's so ugly and unappealing.
12. Can you add support for NBH files? I know it's an extremely niche request, but there's already a command-line extractor for them, and integrating it into Universal Extractor would be awesome. If you want some sample NBH files, you can find them in this package: http://member.america.htc.com/download/Rom....21.18_Ship.exe (I'm linking you to a trusted source -- HTC.com -- so that you don't have to be wary about downloading this). Download that package and extract it with 7zip (in UniExtract, select "Not an InstallShield Installer"). You will see two NBH files in it. You can find the command-line NBHExtractor here: http://xpdnc.org/dumpydooby/files/NBHextract.exe
13. So I'm getting mixed messages about the status of SP3 and Xpize compatibility. What's the verdict? Should I be using this version? One of the old betas? What's the most compatible flavor?
14. hmm, mine doesn't do that. I install from svcpack, so maybe that's why. It could also be because I did an admin install first to allow for better 7zip compression. Perhaps the MSI that is extracted from the admin install suppresses the Smart Security GUI. Not sure. In any case, I don't have this problem at all.
15. Had you gone to the site to download the application, you would have seen that the micro versions are available on it. http://updatepack.nl/downloads/nero-lite/nero-7-lite/ http://updatepack.nl/downloads/nero-lite/nero-8-lite/
16. Over on the RVM forums, there's a "true" addon (meaning, the necessary Nero files are integrated directly onto the XP disc) for v8.3.2.1. It's a pretty remarkable program. I can't get any of my "obtained" keys to work with it, which I suppose is a good thing if you're Ahead.
17. Looks like this project kicked the bucket.
18. What's the difference between Autohotkey and AutoIt? I think I read that AHK was written with AutoIt, but I'm wondering, as far as functionality goes, what's the difference? AHK just runs an INI file containing AutoIt commands?
19. If your error message were in English, I could help you.
20. You should add deskview (or wintidy2 if you swing that way) to that list. People ALWAYS ask, "How do you get those small icons?!"
21. I'm still using the same one. http://xpdnc.org/iconoclast/files/pictures...p_2006-0418.jpg I made my own Samurize layout (admittedly, I got the idea from another layout whose name escapes me at the moment): Holy crap. I just looked at the date. It's been over a year! That screenshot was taken a year and two days ago. I really gotta change my schtick.
22. I know this thread is old, but you might find that if you apply a lens blur to the background that's being covered by the glass, it yields more realistic results, and it helps make the glass look more defined. Personally, I like that a lot more.
23.
Here is a standalone exe [170kb] that i created just for this. It will alphabetize the Start Menu AND the Internet Explorer Favorites. It can be used unattendly if you wish, commandline switch: reorder.exe /S It's as close to a permenant solution as you'll get. Reorder Directories Alphabetically shark
Hey Shark You know, you should always put in a command to run wscript to initiate the scripting engine. Sometimes people don't have the Script Engine associated as the default application with .vbs files. Personally, I always change the default action to "Edit" as opposed to "Open" so if I were to run your script, it would just open in Notepad. There are also people that associate .vbs and .js to open in whatever editor they prefer to use, or some other 3rd party debugging software. Just a suggestion and not really big deal.
24. Since some of you were asking, here's what I got... [How To] Repack Application w- AdminStudio - MSFN Forums.mht (right-click, save as. then open in IE) Guide.7z RegistryCheckUp.exe
25. I'll post the MHT when I get home (assuming I remember, of course).
