  1. RogueSpear, what did you use to edit the MSI?
  2. Excellent. We have RogueSpear on board. I tried using the normal silent install switches and they don't seem to work from the admin install point (although start menu shortcuts get created ... yay?). I can't use them on the MSI either because it wants that setup file. I think our best bet would be to use InstallShield to remove the action from the MSI (like you mentioned). Will you let me know what you do to remove that line? 'cause I'm going to want to do it on the one that I have (localized, no quicktime). In the meantime, I'll toy with it it a bit. edit: I just ran your silent installer of ISScript. Then I ran iTunesSetup.exe. It still gave me an error saying it needed isscript11.msi or whatever the filename was. Currently installing InstallShield so I can go play.
  3. BoardBabe, I just tried itunessetup /a and it seemed to work so far (The Admin install point was created successfully). I haven't tried making a silent install from that, but I will in a few minutes. Just wanted to give you an update. edit: I had to copy over the following files in order for the installer to work: 0x0409.ini iTunesSetup.exe msistub.exe Setup.ini ISScript11.Msi Now I'll attempt to make a silent installer. Again, though, I'm using the 7zip package from aforementioned thread (iTunes with no Quicktime). You can try doing this same stuff with your version of iTunes, but I dunno if it will work. Also, read the last post in that thread, if you're interested in having iTunes without Quicktime, but with all languages.
  4. Excellent. Thanks a bunch. I'll give this a shot.
  5. I should add that seapagan says it's a problem with the local cache of the iTunes installer. I don't really know what that means (but I think I get the jist of it).
  6. I had this EXACT same problem. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&sho...ndpost&p=454069 He thinks he may have fixed this problem in the latest iTunes (sans Quicktime) silent installer, but I haven't been able to get that to work at all. However, I used the non-silent installer and it went just fine (and I didn't get any errors on later installations). Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I'm almost in the same boat as you right now. :\
  7. Like I said, it installs just fine with the non-silent installer. I just click next, next, next, etc. It goes with no errors. The silent one isn't working. Are you suggesting the error I'm having with the custom silent installer is "well documented on the thei apple ipod forums" ? Let me add: Permissions and everything are set just fine and dandy. The installer for iTunes attempts to run before the antivirus software is installed on the VM.
  8. So basically, you're saying that blocking IPs or blocking hostnames is not the important bit, but it is rather where you block them (everything OR IE based stuff)? Pretty much, yeah.
  9. Do you care to elaborate on the inefficiency of cmd files? You're affirming a claim, not backing it up, and then requesting your opposition to affirm and provide evidence for their side. Dunno if this is supposed to be a debate ... your tone just made it seem like that. Anyway, I use a cmd file because I consolidate all of my scripts. I suppose I could run an exe of some sort from the cmd, but cmds seem to work. And I haven't noticed any ineffiencies with 'em.
  10. You dork. I meant to change the theme integration to T-12 (SVCPack method). That is, integrate your .reg file then. OR you could try integrating it from presetup.cmd. That's what I was trying to say. Keep WPI where-ever you had it.
  11. Yeah, I've noticed that scripts sometimes stall (Specifically BTS's) if there is no GOTO :EOF or EXIT at the end.
  12. OHHHHHHHH I get what's going on. I run WPI on first login (and I have the computer set to autologin). So when I do reg tweaks at T-12, they're working just fine and dandy by the time WPI does its thing. Well gosh, you could try the SVCPack method, or you could add the proper line to your presetup.cmd file to integrate the reg file to see if that works ... not sure if it will, though.
  13. As I said in my previous post... Now just integrate that reg file accordingly.
  14. I like the look of this one more than KTools. KTools still has that RunOnceEx look to it.
  15. It would apply it as soon as you put it in the registry. You can try it on a running version of Windows. Change that key and then do Winkey+L. You should see your new logonUI. So to answer your question, yes it should up and going by the time WPI runs (unless, of course, you have something that changes the value back to default). Personally, I replace logonui.exe on my XP disc so I don't have to worry about any registry stuff.
  16. No, it's still an orange. HOSTS file method is the same as PG2. It's just a different way of going about it. And don't take RogueSpear's advice lightly. He knows what he's talking about, and his above posts should answer the rest of your questions. @BoardBabe, it might interest you to look into the program I posted earlier (the one that automatically updates one's hosts file). While it doesn't accomplish what you're going for, it does have a larger list of blocked sites ... some of which you might be interested in adopting for your list. Requires some work, but if a progam or script could locate a date code in the registry, it could then look for a file ending with a date code later than itself to consider it an upgrade. One such example would be to append a reverse date to the filename (Eg. Domain_Blocklist_060305.reg if it was made 5th March 2006). You could put a date into the registry almost anywhere. I have no experience with AutoIt, but in a Visual Basic Scenario, it's just a case of a couple of API calls. A simple For/Next loop would check for every date from the date in the registry upto the current date and see if a file existed on the server. If it did, it would be downloaded and executed. You could have the updater run scheduled or at startup. Voila!! An automatically updating security tool! Heck, I could make a batch script that could do this.
  17. Apple isn't likely to offer support the installer discussed in this thread.
  18. -No, not always. -PG2 will probably run slightly more sluggish in a large network environment. -PG2 seems to be more focused on protecting kids that do naughty things. It's not geared as much toward ad/spy/mal-ware blocking as much as it is geared toward preventing kids from getting caught downloading illegal warez/movies/music etc. -¿¿¿ This is more-so apples and oranges than mine and RogueSpear's earlier debate. The method discussed in this thread is ONLY for Internet Explorer and programs that use the IE core. It will use less resources than PG2, but not a noticable amount. However, the goals of PG2 and the blacklist in this thread are two completely different things. So if you're likely to be downloading illegal files, then use both methods. Otherwise, just one of the blacklist methods discussed in this thread.
  19. Search is your friend. I started a thread on this exact issue when I was a noobie here.
  20. Oh, I didn't realize you wanted to do that to make the theme show up for KTools/RunOnceEx. I just use that method to shrink my themes file. But to answer your question, here ya go. First and foremost, change your CURRENT theme to whatever you want your default theme to be on your Windows disc. Click start->run. Type: regedit /e "%userprofile%\Desktop\theme.reg" "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ThemeManager" That should create a file on your desktop called theme.reg. Right-click->edit theme.reg Change "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\" to "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\" You can add in the rest of the stuff mentioned in the first post, but that right there will just get your theme set properly. The thread-starter's method tells Windows to look in "%SystemRoot%\resources\Themes\Royale\Royale.msstyles" It seems as though your setup is slightly differet.
  21. This has been debated to a nauseating degree already. It's comparing apples and oranges. Use both if you like. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA RogueSpear, no hard feelings man. I still love you.
  22. Oh I didn't realize there was a .reg on the site too. my bad.
  23. Was the MSN Messenger bug fixed?
  24. http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/index.html They don't seem to have ALL of the updates, however.
