I install QT Lite, than update it's components like this: download full Quicktime (currently I find it as part of Safari), extract with Universal Extractor, then overwrite the codecs with new versions in QT Lite folder. Also in folders AAS (Apple Application Support) and 2-3 files in system32 and 2 files somewhere in Documents and Settings\MYUSERNAME\Application Data\Apple.... I don't delete any files and don't add any that aren't there. Just making sure I don't overwrite QuickTimePlayer.exe and QuickTimePlayer*.bin The difference in versions is not yet big enough to stop it from working. GL

The location is in your image. If the file does not exist, search the registry for "JawsPowerPointMacro" and act accordingly. GL

HDD parking click noise?
GrofLuigi replied to Messerschmitt's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Maybe it's the DVD, something is trying to access it. I hear something similar very rarely, but it's not loud. Make sure there's no medium in the drive, check your antivirus settings if you have it. I'd search in registry for all references to the DVD (example: D:\) and carefully review them. But that's just me. To hear the real sound of HDD spindown/spinup, use HDDScan > button New Task (it will open a menu) > Features > IDE Features > then on the right bottom use the two buttons Spindown and Spinup. Don't worry, you won't harm your computer. You may also try to record the sound and upload it somewhere. GL -
HDD parking click noise?
GrofLuigi replied to Messerschmitt's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
maybe others, which one is the most lightweight program that can provide me with the ability to just change the HDD APM to 192 to prevent the clicking? if I don't need to have it set to start with windows (msconfig, startup) even better. Notebook hardware controler I've seen it it does not require be started during windows boot, but it does not appear as being a light weight application (so many other options, including voltage control). Cheers! QuietHDD is very lightweight, its icon can be hidden and you will not even know it's there. The biggest plus is it's the only program that will continue to work after the computer returns from suspend/standby, otherwise you'll hear the click again. Otherwise, if I wanted something on demand, I'd extract hdparm to System32 (it's a command line program) and make a shortcut or .bat with something like this: hdparm.exe -B 192 -S 0 hda or, exactly and only what you wanted: hdparm.exe -B 192 hda Assuming that the hard disk is your first drive (on a laptop, probably it is). Otherwise, it would be hdb, hdc, etc. You can see more data about your drive with the command line: hdparm.exe -I hda GL -
HDD parking click noise?
GrofLuigi replied to Messerschmitt's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Some general explanations of the term(s) are linked at the start of my linked post. From what I observed, this change of behavior started around the time when 100+ Gb 2,5'' HDDs became dominant in the market. Maybe it was the increased platter density, appearance of SATA/NCQ/Vista, or something else, but the manufacturers decided they needed to park the heads more often. Maybe also for shock protection (anticipation you drop your laptop down ). From what I've seen in forums, it can happen in any OS, but XP users are more prone to noticing it, and I suspect many users don't notice it at all or don't mind it. Also, I think Vista/7 "know better" how to communicate with the HDD and maybe do something to prevent the click. I've seen it with my own eyes, two OSs on a same laptop, clicks on XP, doesn't on the newer OS. It isn't a sign of anything wrong, so I don't think they'll acknowledge your warranty, and besides, chances are you will receive a new drive that behaves just the same. I think desktop drives aren't set to park their heads so often because they aren't expected to be dropped often. It's in the HDD's firmware. GL -
HDD parking click noise?

[shameless plug] Here's my experience... Inside there are links to the programs I found most useful: hdparm, HDDScan, QuietHDD. I read that for toshiba HDDs the value 192 for APM sometimes works better. Example: hdparm.exe -B 192 hda Additionally, since then I learned a new command that could help: hdparm.exe -S 0 hda GL -
If that's MPC-HC, go to Options>Tweaks>Use Windows7 Taskbar Features (uncheck it). GL

Hi and welcome, First, you'd better remove your cd key from LAST SESSION_U.INI and winnt.sif. Second, there's a lot of info on this forum if you used search. I don't use Unattended myself so I can't really tell. GL

Why does MSGR3EN.DLL from Off2003 need outbound connection?
GrofLuigi replied to msoff20xx's topic in Microsoft Office
(for Word 2003) (menu) Tools > Research On the right-hand pane that appears, on the bottom click Research Options Then, for each item in the table, select Properties and see what gives. Or uncheck the ones you don't need. Also, (menu) Help > Customer Feedback Options Turn off everything you can. GL -
My Computer and Show Desktop lost icons

OK, everything is well with RDPCDD, it's a built-in Windows component. And unfortunately you're right about the driver... I'm out of ideas (actually, I'm not, but I think they might have lesser chances of helping you with this issue). If you're not tired of this and want to proceed, let me know. (I'm not). GL -

Just as I thought. REGEDIT4 [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\igfxcui] (you lose Right click anywhere on desktop > intel graphic properties) To restore, use your HKLM_SOFTWARE_Classes_Directory_Background_shellex.reg from above. See here for latest driver. What is the exact name of the devices (they appear as two) in Device Manager? The other one (key.reg) seems OK, only if you could verify what DEB039CC-B704-4F53-B43E-9DD4432FA2E9 is (it might be Terminal Services mirror display driver (another one besides TSDDD); I have nLited away mine ) For example, 23A77BF7-ED96-40EC-AF06-9B1F4867732A is well known VgaSave driver for safe mode and/or booting. When I said search, I meant search in your registry (or go directly to the key it points to - HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{DEB039CC- B704-4F53-B43E-9DD4432FA2E9}\0000). Most probably, this has nothing to do with your issue, but it wouldn't hurt to check if it's a leftover. GL -

I'm increasingly convinced it's the Intel driver, maybe hooking Windows functions to manage multiple desktops. Unfortunately, on my machine, which has Intel display, I haven't installed .Net 3.5 which they require for the GUI. If you can, check the advanced display properties and turn of any management functions of multiple displays. Also, check your video drivers at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\VIDEO - you have 3, which is not suspicious, but there might be a leftover of older driver and/or mirror driver of some kind (from remote control software, for example. Just follow the GUIDs (search), don't delete anything. And updating the display driver would certainly be beneficial. This is probably an overkill, but doesn't hurt to have a look. GL -

It's the latest for XPSP3. You have it, maybe reapply it if you feel like it. GL * Edit: the issue described there is not your issue, it's the .LNK handler vulnerability -

You could have also included other files, not only Explorer.exe, at least shell32.dll; especially because it's inprocserver of 20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D and gets loaded (example: lines 1352/1353). But nevermind. Intel display driver is very suspicious, yes. It does a lot of activity during the time the desktop is drawn, and especially after My Computer object - 20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D (around line 4920). Check if there's some desktop management going on by the driver. And regardless of that, check the content of: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shellex. Intel (and Nvidia BTW) driver sticks in there for desktop right click menu (and sometimes there's annoying blink of the desktop). Best done with Autoruns (so you could revert later if necessary), eliminate everything except HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shellex\new. Or post the content of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory if you want. Another thing: you have many <INVALID NAME> (INVALID HANDLE) events, it might not be too dangerous, but I haven't seen many of them on healthy machines. I suspect Avira (by definition, as an antivirus) . Maybe try installing User Profile Cleanup Service. Инаку, не е толку лоша машината. But I shudder when I see windows search (I think that's that - 11016101-E366-4D22-BC06-4ADA335C892B) GL -
